Subject: Phoenix, Horus deck - Leroy
Ok. Like most people, I used to run a chaos deck back in the
day. Not to brag, but I have taken first place in several
local tournaments with this deck. So as you all could
imagine, I was totally devastated when the new ban list came
out. No more BLS, Painful Choice, Graceful, ect. The main
staples of any chaos deck that is worth playing. Due to this
drawback I taken some time away from the tourneys to work on
new deck ideas, but I plan on entering the next oneon the
21st at the avalon manga shop in my area. Of the many decks
that I've been experimenting with lately there is one that
really seems to fit my style, and to be honest it actually
plays out pretty well. However, before I go out and pay a
tournament entry fee I wanted to get some opinions on the
deck. It is a Horus/Phoenix deck. Lets just call it "Birds
Of A Feather" for now.(Yeah, I know it's kind of corny).
Well, anyways without further adou, My fire bird deck.
Monsters: 18
x1 Sangan
x2 Spirit of flames
x2 Hand of nephthys
x1 Horus lv6
x1 Horus lv8
x1 magician of faith
x3 solar flare dragon
x1 exiled force
x2 Horus lv 4
x2 UFO turtle
x1 cyber jar
x1 Sacred phoenix of nephthys
Spells: 15
x1 Brain control
x1 Snatch teal
x2 Molten destruction
x1 Scapegoat
x1 Heavy storm
x1 Swords of revealing light
x1 Mystical space typhoon
x1 Dark hole
x1 Premature burial
x1 Lightning vortex
x1 Hammer shot
x1 Giant trunade
x1 Nobleman of crossout
x1 Book of moon
Traps: 9
x1 Torrential tribute
x1 Threatening roar
x1 Magic cylinder
x2 Sakuretsu armor
x2 Spiritual fir art - kurenai
x1 Call of the haunted
x1 Dust tornado
Now lets break this down. First of all, the main strategy of
this deck is to quickly over power my opponent with either
my horusus, phenix or both which actually happens verry
often. In fact, I havent had a duel yet where atleast one of
them hasn't come out. Thanks to hand of nephthys I can
summon phoenix from my deck by offering one other creature (ie.
scapegoat) and itself. Or you could always just use one of
your opponents monsters as a tribute with snatch or brain
control. Once the phoenix is released, this usually
immediately turns the duel in your favor. Sangan is here to
search cards like hand of nephthys, mof, solar flares ect.
Ufo turtle serves the same purpose. Because of the fire
theme I run 2 molten destructions which provides a nice
little power boodt for all fire monsters. This makes my
horus lv4 a competitive 2100 attacker and enables him to
take out almost any monster your opponent will probally have
on the field and bringing out your lv6. One more monster to
destroy and you can bring out your lv8. This should not be
hard to do since your opponont won't be able to stop your
lv6 with any spells(dark hole, hammer shot, ect) Once lv8
comes out, you pretty much are running the show now and your
opponent will almost always retreat to defense.( Maybe I
should side a couple of tramplers) This deck uses burn,
swarm, and beatdown techinques with out quickly depleting
your hand. My field test record so far with this deck is 17
wins and 2 losses (starting off drawing lv6, lv8, and
phoenix. What luck huh? LOL)
Please feel free to email me with any questions, comments,
or tips on my
"Birds Of A Feather" deck. Thanks
