Subject: The Power Of Cold Wave-Maurice D
Hello Pojo peeps and fellow duelists! After a few months,
it's great to see the Pojo TCG tips back in action. I am
here to discuss about a card from the good old days of Yu-Gi-Oh.
This ancient Spell Card has recently been used alongside
Mobius the Frost Monarch, but up until now, had never been
used period. For friends, I shall share with you the Spell
Card...
Cold Wave--From Pharaoh's Servant
Normal Spell Card
This card can only be activated at the start of Main Phase
1. Until your next turn, neither you nor your opponent can
play or Set any Spell or Trap Cards.
As a duelist who had actually used this card in several
local tournaments, I can definitely say that at the right
time, this card can be deadly. For the small cost of not
being able to lay down any Traps, you can temporary shut
down cards like Confiscation, Snatch Steal, and the
very-abused Reinforcement of the Army. That's right; you
heard me. Do you just hate it when your opponent just slaps
Reinforcement at his or her very first turn? If you go first
and draw this, you won't have to worry about that for the
time being. But I am afraid this only demonstrates a
fraction of Cold Wave's true power. Let me go even
further...
Believe it or not, Cold Wave is a Flip Monster's best
friend. Why? It can hold off the restricted copy of Nobleman
of Crossout. Cold Wave and Cyber Jar is a deadly play. You
will be protected in two fronts: your opponent won't be
Crossing Out your Jar, and you can breath easier now that
he/she cannot activate any Bottomless Trap Holes once your
1500 ATK+ monsters come in through the Jar's effect. Cold
Wave also sweeps Magician of Faith away and makes sweet love
to her, so that and the Flip Effect Spellcaster is another
excellent play. A free Spell Card and protection from the
Nobleman? Sign me up.
The true power of Cold Wave comes in the form of its synergy
with your Spell/Trap removing Effect Monsters. This doesn't
just goes well with Mobius! This rings true for the more
underrated S/T removing Effect Monsters like Cliff the Trap
Remover and my personal favorite S/T nuker, Gigantes. During
the turn that you are about to summon your big S/T killer,
activate Cold Wave first. Of course, you have to do this
right after your opponent has actually set down S/Ts during
his/her last turn. Next, summon your S/T destroyer, activate
its S/T removal effect, and watch the crap hit the fan. And
as an additional bonus, your opponent will not be able to
set down any Traps next turn, nor use any monster revoming
Spells. You will then have another free turn's worth of
direct attacking...if you can work your way around the
defending opposing monsters first! This is even deadlier if
you use Lady Ninja Yae's effect. Not only will you have
returned the opponent's S/Ts right back to his/her hand,
he/she can forget laying them back down come his/her next
turn. You might even get lucky enough to force them to
discard at least one card during their End Phase, via having
over seven cards in their hand.
There's one final tip I would like to share, and this is for
all the Penguin Solder and Nightmare Penguin users out
there. Let me introduce you to one of the cheesiest first
turn play combos ever: Cold Wave and Nightmare Penguin. It's
really simple; all you need to do is play Cold Wave and set
Nightmare Penguin. This combo makes it so that the only
option for your opponent is to either Normal Summon, or set
a monster.
If the Normal Summoned Monster, however, happens to be
Maurauding Captain, depending on what he/she is summoning
through his effect, you would still get an advantage. The
idea here is to bounce the only monster on their side of the
field back to their hand, and stage a direct attack next
turn with a high-ATK monster of your own. So if you use a
Water deck with Nightmare Penguin, feel free to try that
combo out.
I hope I could help out with this tip, because with a little
skill in the duelist's part, Cold Wave can be a great way to
shut down several opposing strategies. It can also open
windows to a shot at your opponent's Life Points, too! So if
you would like to comment about my tip, my e-mail address is
mxdelamar@pojo.com. Have a nice day!
