Subject: Sacred Crane--by brad
Card #1 Sacred Crane
Hello, everyone, I’m back by popular demand (or like
a bad dream, whichever you’d prefer). This is the
first in a set of articles where i’ll be discussing
certain cards. I’ve chosen to write forty of these
articles. Quite the task. Verterans, be forewarned,
this is going to be a series or articles more geared
towards helping people who are new to the game
understand strategies and card relationships. Each
card is fairly obtainable, and when we’re finished,
we’ll have a fairly reliable deck constructed.
I’m going to get this started with Sacred Crane.
Sacred Crane IOC—069
When this card is special summoned, the controller
of this card draws 1 card.
The good old bird has a simple effect, and some very
handy tricks. A lot of people would dismiss this
card as too situational to see anything more than
casual play, but I’d disagree. That is the point of
these articles, after all.
First strategy—the old dump & revive tactic. Drop it
with a discard cost or Grarceful Charity, Premature
Burial and draw a card. Anyone with a grasp of card
advantage can tell you that this will usually result
in a +1 if Sacred Crane is not destroyed
immediately.
Of course, the card you draw can easily put you in
an even more favorable position to attain card
advantage, thus hastening your victory.
Second Strategy—rush it. Fun with Marauding Captain.
Marauding Captain + Sacred Crane= draw a card and
probably push for some damage. This can be very
annoying, and if used in the right situation, can
clinch a share of advantage. Let’s say that you’re
down to two cards in hand. And you’re facing down a
Jinzo. You summon Captain, Special the Crane, and
possibly draw into a way to remove or take control
of Jinzo. In that case, you have picked up card
advantage.
Sacred Crane can also be used in positive
situations, when you already have card advantage.
Special Summon it, gain another +1, and put even
more pressure on your opponent. In this advanced
format, putting pressure on your opponent it the
vehicle through which victories travel. Remember
that.
That doesn’t go to say that you should use this card
foolishly. In some situations, you may find that you
need a monster with decent attack power. Well,
Sacred Crane boats 1600 ATK, wich is good enough to
kill most flip effect monsters as well as used
Dekoichi’s etc. If you need some defensive
manuevering to keep you in it, you can set it. It
will most likely die during your opponent’s turn if
you do so, but hopefully, the damage you’d take
would be lessened.
Finally, It’s chaos food. Take it out of play with
and of the darks already at your disposal, gain a +1
because of Chaos Sorcerer, activate Return from the
Different Dimension, draw again, and finish the game
right there!
So there you have it. The do’s and don’ts of Sacred
Crane. Enjoy.
