Theories on Raviel, Lord of Phantasms
By Fox 1 Fire
Hey All.
I’ve been having a look at the Ultra Rares in Shadow
of Infinity, and I’ve come up with a few ideas on
the trio of Uria, Lord of Searing Flames, Hamon,
Lord of Striking Thunder and Raviel, Lord of
Phantasms.
I’ll start with some theories on Raviel, Lord of
Phantasms. For those that don’t know, here are it’s
stats.
SOI-EN003 Raviel, Lord of Phantasms
Dark/Fiend/Effect/4000/4000/10 star
This card cannot be Normal summoned or set. This
card cannot be special summoned except by tributing
3 fiend type monsters on your side of the field.
Each time your opponent Special summons a monster(s),
special summon a Phantasm Token (Fiend
Type/Dark/Level 1/ATK 1000/DEF 1000) on your side of
the field. This token cannot declare an attack. Once
per turn, by Tributing 1 monster on your side of the
field, increase the ATK of this card by the original
ATK of the tributed monster until the end phase of
that turn.
This guy needs a whole deck built around him. He’s
not just something you can put in any old deck.
The first problem is how to get him on the field. He
needs three fiends on the field. The normal solution
would be swarm. The first monsters I would put in to
support this guy would be three Giant Germs, and two
or three Skull Knight #2. The main problem with
Skull Knight #2 is that it needs to be tributed for
it’s effect to work, but we don’t want too many
tribute monsters. Though it is not a fiend, Mystic
tomato would be good to get the low ATK fiends out.
Also, not being able to be special summoned, Monster
Reincarnation would also be essential to get Raviel
back from the grave.
With lack of sufficient swarm, I would suggest some
stalling fiends with high defence. Fine examples
would be Grave Protector and D.D Trainer, both
searchable by Mystic Tomato and Sangan. Some high
attackers would also be useful, Shadowknight
Archfiend, Archfiend Soldier and Goblin Elite Attack
Force being the best examples here.
If you can get Raviel out, you will need to make use
of it’s effects. With 4000 ATK, it will be hard to
stop. It’s second effect is very useful. The tokens
may not be able to attack, but they CAN be tributed,
for it’s third effect and for other monsters. A
couple of Dark Ruler Ha Des would not go amiss in
this deck. They can also be used for Mystic Box, and
other purposes.
Now it’s best effect, the ability to tribute another
monster to increase it’s ATK. The Phantasm Tokens
seem to be made just for this. It can elevate it’s
attack above any other monster. This will make it
undefeatable in combat, (killing off other high ATK
monsters) and you SHOULD be able to use this effect
in your opponent’s turn. I’m not 100% sure about
that, but it does say once per turn, and not only
during your turn.
We have to protect this card from spells and traps,
which are a major stumbling block for many good
cards. Add in Magic Jammer, Anti-Spell Fragrance and
Spell Vanishing to counter this. There are major
downsides to these, though, seeing as Anti-Spell
Fragrance will target your spells as well and Spell
Vanishing promotes bad hand advantage. To combat the
traps, Jinzo, Royal Decree and Seven Tools of the
Bandit would be pretty good. But as with Anti-Spell
Fragrance, Jinzo and Royal Decree would hurt you.
Another overlooked card would be Prohibition, which
would stop your opponent playing the cards you
feared them using most of all. But you wouldn’t be
able to use them either.
On reflection, all Raviel Decks should have these
five cards.
*Raviel, Lord of Phantasms
*Monster Reincarnation
*Giant Germ
*Grave Protector
*Mystic Tomato
