Subject: Suprise Hitters and Hope Sinkers -- JK-47
Hello again to all those in pojodom. This past
weekend (at the time of
writing) was SJC Austin. And to be honest, the Top 8
deck lists actually gave me some hope. Kudos to the
person who managed a Gearfried deck to the second
day. Same to the duelist with the Stein OTK. To see
decks with at least some thought put into them and
not just "which lineup of monarchs should I use"
make some headway gives us all some hope for the
game.
Now, on to the real reason I'm writing today,
surprise heavy hitting monsters that will make your
opponent's jaw drop when they see you play them. I
have a list of five, so I'll put them in ascending
order, starting with the least effective, and then
ending with the most effective.
5. Cosmic Horror Gan'giel.
Yup. Seriously, this guy is cool. Turn that
opponent's monster you stole with brain control into
a 2600 stat draining machine. Think about it. For
one tribute, as long as it is your opponent's
monster, you get a monster that has higher attack
stats than a monarch, and can put a-counters on
opponent's monsters to make them weaker, when
battling with an alien monster.
4. Lava Golem.
It is a 3000 point attacker, and you do get to
summon it for free, it costs your opponent monsters
though. The drawback, it is on your opponent's side
of the field. Still, to sacrifice two of your
opponent's monsters, Lava
Golem is the man.
3. Majestic Mech Goryu.
Often overlooked because of his little brother Ohka,
Goryu is a 2900 piercing monster for one tribute for
one turn. Talk about your surprise heavy hitter.
Problem being unless you sacrifice two monsters to
get him, he's gone after a turn.
2. Despair From the Dark.
2800 free monster. Either with Call of the Mummy, or
if your opponent is looking for some hand
disruption. Nothing like letting your opponent get
that reaper hit, losing despair, and then watching
as your despair hits the field, and their despair
hits their face. Quite honestly, up until a while
ago, this guy was tops among surprise heavy hitters.
No drawbacks, 2800 attack, free summon. Then the
number one card came along.
1. Doom Dozer.
Remove two insects from play (not a problem as
insects tend to die fast).
As a reward, you get a 2800/2600 beatstick that has
a mill effect when it inflicts battle damage. Can
anyone else say sweet? The cost of this monster is
so small, the benefits so huge, and yet no one seems
to have noticed.
Insects, since the release of Shadow of Infinity
have been a force to be reckoned with, to prove it,
here is an Insect deck designed to either deck out
your opponent, or beat him down with the sheer force
of insects. Did you
know that insects make up the majority of bio-mass
on the planet?
Insects of Doom
Monsters: 21
Insect Knight x 3
Aresnal Bug x 3
Chainsaw Insect x 2
Saber Beetle x 3
Doom Dozer x 3
Howling Insect x 2
Pinch Hopper x 1
Magical Merchant x 1
Needle worm x 3
Spells: 11
Heavy Storm x 1
Mystical Space Typhoon x 1
Swords of Revealing Light x 1
Monster Reincarnation x 1
Creature Swap x 2
Lightning Vortex x 1
Card Destruction x 1
Gravekeeper's Servant x 2
Messenger of Peace x 1
Traps: 8
Ring of Destruction x 1
Ceasefire x 1
Call of the Haunted x 1
Torrential Tribute x 1
Waboku x 2
Secret Barrel x 2
The spell and trap lineup is fairly routine, I know,
but the creature swaps provide a nice alternative
when all you have is a flipped needle worm or
howling insect. As for the traps, well, waboku can
be life saving, Secret barrel can be game ending,
and the others don't need any explanation. So try
this out, and see what a gian army of insects can do
for you.
