Trading Card Game Tips from fans
September 2006
From:
Neo King of Games
Okay, before I get to the combo that this tip is all about, I gotta say this. I think I finally figured out what I was trying to say in my tip about the "Prophets of Doom"...
Go ahead and make your original, fun decks. But when you're heading out to regionals, leave 'em at home. That is, unless you're sure enough of your skill that you think you can win with it.
Okay, so on to the combo. This combo involves two cards and can have a gamebreaking effect. If you can manage to pull it off, that is. The cards may be a little difficult to get the cards for since one is an ultra in AST (I think it's in a couple of the structure decks as well) and the other is a super in RDS.
The combo is...
Curse of Anubis + Tragedy
It's simple, activate Curse of Anubis and when the opponent's monsters switch, activate Tragedy. It destroys every monster on the opponent's field, no matter what. The face-up ones are switched to defense and the face-down ones are already in defense anyway.
Okay, so sure, Curse switches your monsters to defense as well. But that's why it's best used during your opponent's turn. (Also, the fact that both cards are traps kinda helps that as well.) Just switch 'em back to attack position during your turn.
Okay, so let's think about something. What mildly competitive decks run normal monsters, the only thing not vulnerable to this?
Exodia
That's it. Exodia decks. And any self-respecting Exodia user won't be playing their Exoida pieces. Maybe in defense to protect their LP when they can get the piece back later. But then Tragedy will still hit it. (Seriously, if you're playing someone and they summon an Exodia piece in attack position, I want you to take the nearest object you can lift and hit them over the head with it until they apologize for their foolish mistake. Seriously, don't actually do it...)
Anyway, so this combo might be viable on an actual competitive level of play. After all, most decklists for decks of a highly competitive level include no normal monsters of any kind. Still, competitive decks do usually include this combo's biggest weaknesses...
Three copies of Royal Decree as well as the one allowed Jinzo. These can completely destroy this combo. Then, there's the fact that there's a lot of spell and trap removal going around. Still, it might be a little difficult to pull off, but it might be an idea to consider...
This happened to be one of my favorite combos in a no effect monsters deck. It'll only hit the opponent's monsters. Still, it might not be the BEST idea being as situational as it is as well as being vulnerable to S/T removal. Course, it still is an interesting idea, so give it a shot if you think you can pull it off.
