Trading Card Game Tips from fans
September 2006

Hi! This is my first post on pojo's tcg tips, but I think this needs to be said. This new list is GREAT. Ask anyone who knows anything about the game and they'll tell you the same. This is the first format that actually has a chance of being less CC and less copying top decklists from other people. This list has taken away the problem of chaos sorcerer. Many people are upset about this or believe that this move was too harsh.
My question is, why have we forgotten about the purpose of the Ban List? It was created to stop everyone from running the same deck, so that when you go to regionals, you don't have a mirror matchup for EVERY round. With chaos sorcerer being run in threes and completely destroying themed decks with the only drawback of running lights and darks, which everyone's done for 4+ years now. He, like tribe-infecting virus, is the bane of many a theme deck. He is fairly easy to take care of, but he can be devistating at certain times. Others think that Cyber Stein should have been touched. If you're running more than one Cyber Stein, then you're probably running OTK. The only reason you run more than one is to increase your chances of getting ahold of it. Most of the time, in a duel you have enough lp for one stein, (barring life point recovery cards such as poison of the old man). Also, stein can be countered with many cards including waboku, kuriboh, etc... So that means that next turn that they have a stein in attack mode, (most of the time), the summoned fusion monster, (cyber twin or end), and 3000 or less life points. Next turn you can easily end the game by smacking the stein. Why is it that noone overextends unless they know they're going to win? The reason is that the next turn the opponent can easily take out all of their extention and take the lead doing so. Cyber stein works the exact same way.
Ring of Destruction was a perfect card to bring back. Not only will it stop Stein, but it will also help speed up duels in the US. This is good because for the last couple of formats, the metagame has been a conservative, slow tempo metagame. This also brings back the fab four in the trap lineup, though this time decree is an issue with it being so much easier to get ahold of. Snatch Steal also warranted banning. This card is simply one of the best topdecks in the game. It's rediculous in the late game and with no immediate drawbacks, you can take advantage of the card without paying for it. I am very glad to see that tsukuyomi finally made it on to the banned list. It's very unenjoyable, and long, to sit and watch someone reuse flips every turn without being able to do anything about it. Amusingly enough, 2 spirit monsters are now banned, and many believe that spirit.......stink. I really don't understand why Thousand Eyes Restrict was banned. I understand that this list impacts us and Japan, so that must be the reason, Japan must have had an issue. Future fusion was perfect to ban to put a damper in the Chimerteck OTK decks.
Magician of Faith, Nobleman of Crossout, and Sprit Reaper were all dying to be limited. Spirit reaper is almost always 1-4-1 if not more. Nobleman of crossout is a rediculous card that I believe should be banned. It does help stop flip effect monsters and slow play, but the card is way too powerful to have crawling around. As people have said it a million times magician of faith is only as good as the spells in the format. With Snatch Steal gone your good targets are confiscation and graceful charity. Without lights mattering anymore, she's not the auto-inclusion she used to be. Gravity Bind and Ultimate Offering were limited for the Japan metagame. Their stall lockdown decks loved gravity bind and ultimate offering was a big helper in the Gadget decks, (which unfortunately we're getting in SD-10).
Exiled force was a surprising a good semi-limit. He can be downright annoying, but he's always a 1-4-1 and he takes your summon for the turn. Reckless greed is also a very nice semi-limit. The reason it was ever limited is because of the combo you can make with it. Playing two at a time lets you draw four and only skip two draw phases. Giant trunade is a nice semi-limit to see too. Though most OTK only ran 2, this stops them from running 3. GT only returns cards to the hand, not providing card advantage, but usually when it's used there is no next turn. Wall of revealing light was semi-limited for the same reason gravity bind was limited. Without tsukuyomi in the game, drop off was allowed to become unrestricted again. Emergency provisions and lightning vortex were taken off the list, well, because noone ever plays them, and they aren't dangerous in multiples. Reflect bounder being taken of the list is one of the most intriguing things to happen. Back in the day, when people had BLS, CED, Yata, etc, he was an absolute light staple. His high attack, burn ability, and light status helped him be the best. As soon as the ban list started, though, he faded from the spotlight. I believe he may have a chance now to shine in machine decks. Thanks for listening to me rant, but I do believe that this format is gearing up to be the best format ever. Like my article, hate it? E-mail me at marth_warrior@yahoo.com and I will get back with you. Peace!
