This is the Grand Format update to Strike of Neos.

For people seeing this Format series for the first time, a research project was initiated on June 15 of 2006 by a man named Johnny Tek to construct a card restriction format that would accurately recreate the kind of game play seen in the fiction of Yu-Gi-Oh!
Three months later Grand Format (Updated to POTD) was released as a third-level restriction system designed for experienced players in special high level tournaments. The format has been and will be updated with every booster pack release.

For any player who might complain about the "lack of options", keep in mind that there are more than 1,800 cards released in English NOT on the restricted card list for Grand Format.

For any player questioning the logic of the restriction list, keep in mind restricting the TOTAL number of restricted cards instead of just the number of copies of them changes the effectiveness of many cards, dramatically in some cases. (ex. D. D. Borderline) The redefinition of "Ritual Summon" and being able to Normal Summon in face-up Defense Position also changes card effectiveness.

Changes in this update from the CDIP update include the following:

***The previous Forbidden Cards section has been aptly renamed and reconstructed as Condition-Limited Cards, with the new Forbidden Cards section banning cards that are not designed with actual play in mind.

***Crush Card Virus and Deck Devastation Virus conditions have been simplified to three DARK monsters instead of three DARK monsters with a certain amount of ATK or DEF.

***The restriction on Victory Dragon has been loosened so now Limited Cards can be used in the same Deck and Side Deck combined. (The rest of the condition is still applied however.)

***"Advanced Ritual Art", "Contract with the Abyss", "Earth Chant", and "Mist Body" have been added to the Limited Cards section.

***"Book of Moon", "Elemental Hero Stratos", "Gren, Tactician of Dark World", "Kahkki, Guerilla of Dark World", "Needle Ceiling", "Negate Attack", "Neo-Spacian Grand Mole", "Overload Fusion", "Solemn Judgement", "Threatening Roar", "Thunder of Ruler", "Waboku", "Windstorm of Etaqua", and "Zero Gravity" have been added to the Semi-Limited Cards section.

***"Skill Drain" has been moved from Condition-Limited Cards (formerly Forbidden Cards) to the Limited Cards section.

*** "Dark Master – Zork" has been moved from the Semi-Limited Cards section to the Limited Cards section.

A few fixes have been made since this particular update was put out on forums. The changes are: (a) Slifer the Sky Dragon's spelling has been corrected,
(b) "Royal Oppression" has been removed from Last Turn's condition, (c) "Vanity's Ruler" has been added to "Last Turn"'s condition, (d) "Monster Gate" and "Reasoning" have been added to "Exchange of the Spirit".

NOTE: This format is not for novice players and it is not meant for large open tournaments. This format is used for accurate recreation of gameplay as seen in the fiction and special Exhibition tournaments featuring small numbers of players who are invited to compete; numbers within reason for judges to handle competently. (At least until a computer program can be written up to use this format in electronically assisted gameplay. Larger tournaments can then be held for this format.) For now play for fun and watch carefully for news about an exhibition tournament which may be coming soon...

***The restricted card list is divided into 4 sections: Forbidden Cards, Condition-Limited Cards, Limited Cards, and Semi-Limited Cards. Please read the instructions for each section carefully.
***Ritual Monsters can be Ritual Summoned (using the appropriate Ritual Spell
Card) from the hand, Deck, or Graveyard. Although you may Tribute a Ritual Monster to Ritual Summon a different Ritual Monster Card of the same name, you may not Tribute a Ritual Monster to Ritual Summon the exact same copy of itself.
***Monsters can be Normal Summoned in face-up Defense Position as well as Attack Position.
