Deck Fix 5- Venom Skill Burn

yo dude, waz up. My names Matthew, and I'm going to truly test your deck building skills. My deck is a concept you've probably never heard of: skilled venom burn. Basically, I used a Comic Odyssey structure from last format to make this a "different" kind of OTK strategy. One ruling you should know before you see the deck: if a monster is on the field with 0 atk along with venom swamp and the monster gains a venom counter, it is not destroyed. The text of venom swamp reads: If a monster's attack is reduced to 0 by this effect, that monster is destroyed. It's not reduced if it's already there. That's why cyber valley, ojama trio tokens and soul tiger work so well in this deck. Venom burn is very good, because you can do on average, 2800 damage minimum. The most damage I've ever done was 25200 (36 venom counters on an ojama trio token, this was in the third game of a semi-finals match at my local tournament). You can suggest any cards because I have plenty of time to get them. Yes, I know the "cyber valley dupe", I just need two more before that can happen. Onto the deck:

Venom burn deck-43 cards

Monsters x14
Soul tiger x2
Mystic tomato x3
Sangan x1
Dark mimic level 3 x1
Card trooper x1
Cyber dragon x2
Morphing jar x1
Cyber valley x1
Cat of ill omen x1
Mask of darkness x1

Spells x 11
Venom swamp x2
MST x1
Wave-motion cannon x2
Smashing ground x1
Swords o.r.l. x1
Messenger of peace x1
Level limit area b x1
Scapegoat x1

Traps x18
Skill Drain x3
Dimension Wall x1
Dark Bribe x3
Torrential Tribute x1
Mirror Force x1
Gravity Bind x1
Magic Cylinder x1
Ceasefire x1
Ojama trio x1
Venom burn x1
Solemn judgement x3
Crush Card Virus x1

So, that's the decklist. I made this because I like the venom swamp Idea and because I hate being cookie cutter. There are only 2 wave-motion cannons because I think setting up the lock (g-bind, skill drain and f/d dark bride) is more important. CCV works because I have the cat, mask of darkness, sangan and the three tomatos when they've been powered down by venom swamp. smashing ground is really good because sometimes venom swamp can be too slow when you have a jinzo staring you down. I hope you like the idea and any advice you can give would be appreciated

P.S. all three cyber valley effects are costs so they work with skill drain. If you could suggest a side deck against LADD, that would be great. Also, I don't always have CCV (it's a team mates), so if you could make 2 decklists like the one with and without the destiny hero cards, that'd be great.

Hey Matthew, thanks for sending in your deck. First off, I would like to say wow. Just simply wow. This deck is probably one of the craziest versions of CO burn I've ever seen in my life, I love the creativity. And the cool thing is after a little playtesting, I really liked the deck. So much, in fact, that I could only make a few changes that I thought were hindering your performance a little.

Here's what I took out:

Cyber Dragon: Considering this is a CO Burn build, you'll almost always have a monster on the field, and that means you'll have to tribute for the dragon, in which case is not good. I took both out.

Morphing Jar: It seems like a good choice at first, but with Skill Drain being a part of the field lock, this card will probably end up hindering you more than helping you, considering how quickly I kept drawing into the Skill Drains.

Cyber Valley: Oh man....the combos this card has with venom burn are nuts, but you do need the Dupe combo to pull it off effectively. It would be something along the lines of Valley, Dupe, Venom Swamp, swords, and Solemn/Bribe. Since you don't have it right now, I cut it from the deck.

Cat of Ill Omen: Another cool combo for this deck, it places your win condition on top of your deck. However, you'll probably have that Skill Drain in play when you draw this, so I'm going to cut it from the deck

Mask of Darkness: Same situation as the Cat of Ill Omen; flip effects don't work that great in CO Burn courtesy of the skill drain.

These are the cards I added in:

Soul Tiger: A wonderful wall, the venom counters don't destroy this card, and it gives you a chance to build up your other defenses by stopping direct attacks on your life points.

Dark Mimic LV 3: The true draw engine to the CO Burn deck, these guys will allow you to poke for damage, set up a nasty crush card virus, and draw a card if it's killed by battle. Sounds like a winner to me! I added 2 more.

Wave-Motion Cannon: This card is pretty much self-explanatory in this deck, build it up, break your opponent down. I added 1 more.

Dimension Wall: The one true weak point of the deck was it lacked any defending against direct attacks, save for mirror force and cylinder. The walls stop those attacks and shorten the amount of time your opponent has left. I added two.

Removed:
-2 Cyber Dragon
-1 Morphing Jar
-1 Cyber Valley
-1 Cat of Ill Omen
-1 Mask of Darkness

Added:
+1 Soul Tiger
+2 Dark Mimic LV3
+1 Wave-Motion Cannon
+2 Dimension Wall

Here's the new decklist:

Venom Skill Burn- 41 Cards

Monsters: (10)
Soul Tiger x3
Mystic Tomato x3
Sangan x1
Card Trooper x1
Dark Mimic LV3 x3

Spells: (11)
Venom Swamp x2
Mystical Space Typhoon x1
Wave-Motion Cannon x3
Smashing Ground x1
Swords of Revealing Light x1
Level Limit Area-B x1
Messenger of Peace x1
Scapegoat x1

Traps: (20)
Skill Drain x3
Dark Bribe x3
Solemn Judgement x3
Gravity Bind x1
Mirror Force x1
Torrential Tribute x1
Magic Cylinder x1
Ojama Trio x1
Ceasefire x1
Crush Card Virus x1
Venom Burn x1
Dimension Wall x3

I didn't feel the need to build a second decklist without CCV for two reasons: 1) The deck is at 41, and CCV can come straight out and 2) The deck really doesn't even need CCV, it's just there to further irritate your opponent. The deck is played out like any standard CO Burn deck, get skill drain, wave-motion, a blocker, Solemn/bribe, and Dimension Wall/Magic cylinder, and wait out the cannon for game. You also have the Venom Burn to finish the duel even quicker.

As for the side against LADD, here's what I'd do, but remember, this is only a suggestion:

D.D. Crow x3
Trap Dustshoot
Mind Crush
Pulling the Rug x2
Forced Back x2
Divine Wrath x3
Mask of Restrict x3

I hope I helped you out Matthew, and for anyone else, if you want to send in deck fixes/comments/questions e-mail me, I will read and reply to all submissions.
