Thoughts About the Next Ban List... (By Master
Tricks)
Hello again Yugioh fans, it's me Master
Tricks here and today I am going to discuss my
thoughts about the next ban list coming up soon
in just a few months. In the advanced format and
metagame, the ban list plays a very crucial part
on what cards we use or can use in legal
official tournaments in many areas. In the
beginning of the Yugioh card game, their wasn't
as many cards on the ban list as there is today.
We have the ban list in order to control current
or possible future chaotic and mass destructive
decks that are just simply broken. The ban list
is just like the law. We have to follow the law
just like we have to follow what's on the
current ban list.
As new cards are released from packs,
structure decks, video games, etc., people use
their brains hard to figure out new strategies
with whatever cards that are out and whatever
they currently possess. OTK, FTK, and fast-tempo
or simply excellent killer decks come from mad
geniuses either by using their brains and hard
effort or just simply by dumb luck and accident.
When Konami discovers a major abuse of cards
that can easily give a +2 or more advantage, 95%
of the time it will become banned or mostly
limited. If its lucky, it'll be semi-limited for
a short time only. The other 5% are cards such
as Morphing Jar and Torrential Tribute, which
are usually cards that do give a major +2 or
higher advantage, but only by luck and if it
affects the opponent somewhat positively also to
make the unnatural balance even. For now, these
are some of the cards which I believe will
become newly banned, limited, semi-limited, and
unlimited/unbanned (Not a real word) on the next
ban list:
Newly Banned:
- Dark Magician of Chaos - I
REALLY hate to admit it, but I unfortunately
truly believe with many others that this will be
banned on the next list because of the future
release of a broken card called "D.D.R.".
D.D.R.'s effect allows you to special summon 1
monster removed from play at the price of a
discarding of card from your hand and equipping D.D.R.
to the monster and if D.D.R. is removed from the
field, destroy the monster. Unless D.D.R. is
limited to 1 copy on the next banned list, this
guy will mostly be next seen on the forbidden
cards part of the list. If D.D.R. isn't
restricted to 1 copy, you could simply return
your removed from play DMoC since when it leaves
the field, it's removed from play, and take
another D.D.R. from your graveyard to make a
continuous looping chain until you win. Insane,
and I just got my copy in so many years! :(
- Marshmallon - It's so sad
that I have to admit that our cute stalling burn
friend most likely has to go away from us. This
card might be banned by Konami in order to stop
the classic Burn/Stall once and for all so
people can invent/discover other great deck
ideas (One reason why the banned list was
invented).
Newly Limited:
- Metamorphosis - This card
shoudln't have been banned even after the
release of D-Hero Malicious. Since Thousand-Eyes
Restrict is banned, there is really no broken
cards to use this card on. The good cards to use
Metamorphosis on are Dark Balter the Terrible,
Ryu Senshi, and Cyber Blader. This card should
be able to return on the limited or semi-limited
list even with the many options we have to use
this card on and summon some really great
fusions with.
- Confiscation - This card
has a lower chance to make a return from the
forbidden cards, but isn't that broken like
Chaos Sorcerer and Yata-Garasu. It requires a
hefty price of 1000 life points, which is pretty
steep in our current metagame, but it does repay
itself by looking at your opponent's entire hand
and discarding any card from it. It is only a
good 1st-turn card. If it isn't used on the
first turn, chances are you're not going to use
it late game. Shouldn't be banned, but should be
limited to 1 copy. My opinion only, folks.
- Lightning Vortex - I
wouldn't be surprised if this card was limited
like it was before when it was released. It's
like another Raigeki that targets only all
face-up monsters your opponent controls and at
the price of a discarding of a card from your
hand. This card can become hell in many horrible
situations and can turn the duel around as
simple as many other banned cards and limited
cards currently on the ban list. Should
definitely return being limited.
- Il Blud - Multiple copies
of this card is definitely not a good idea in
our current metagame. It's definitely broken
even at 1 copy and should remain at 1 copy in
the future ban lists.
- Raiza the Storm Monarch -
Hate to admit it, but chances are that this guy
will either me limited or semi-limited because
of its pure ability to stall and disrupt an
opponent's strategy/plan for one turn and 1 turn
can make a HUGE difference in our current
format.
- The Dark Monarch - I don't
know the Dark Monarch's English name yet, but
it's definitely going to be limited,or
semi-limited if lucky, because of its ability to
remove any one card on the field from play. Now
that's totally broken in our metagame since
there are so many options to remove and disrupt
an opponent's strategy horrifically. Excellent
against Treeborn Frog, D-Heroes, Zombies, Sacred
Phoenix, Burn, etc. And to top it all off, if
you removed a Dark Monster with its ability, you
can inflict 1000 damage to your opponent's life
points. Absolutely broken especially if used
against Spirit Reaper, Sangan, DMoC, and other
Dark monsters currently used often. The best
Monarch ever!
- Messenger of Peace - I
don't know why this famous stall card isn't
limited in any form of way currently. In the
past, this card was semi-limited for a while
until Level Limit Area B and Gravity Bind took
over the stalling as well as Wall of Revealing
Light and Swords of Revealing Light. This
certainly must be limited or at least
semi-limited. Even the cost of 100 LP per each
of your standby phases isn't really a big deal
to pay for.
- The "Dark Rainbow Dragon" -
This card will be released soon as an Ultra Rare
from the future upcoming set, "Phantom Darkness"
and will be a broken card to use. It is almost
like another Chimeratech Over Dragon. For more
information on the "Dark Rainbow Dragon", go to
www.yugiohetc.com and click on the Phantom
Darkness Spoiler for the info as well as info on
other cards in the set.
Newly Semi-Limited:
- Trap Dustshoot - This card
isn't entirely broken since its drawback is that
it's a trap card so you have to set it first to
activate later and the fact that your opponent
needs to have 4 or more cards in their hand for
this to activate. Two copies of this in a deck
isn't entirely smart even if it allows you to
look into your opponent's hand to plan your
future tactics. It may be the trap version of
Confiscation, but like I said, it isn't entirely
broken.
- The Transmigration Prophecy
- I understand that this card is somewhat
helpful for Gadgets, but that's basically it. No
one other than Gadgets and maybe Gladiator
Beasts really needs this card and no one is
really going to run no more than 1-2 copies for
sure in a Gadget Deck. This card isn't even
broken for Gadgets at all. My opinion, but I'm
for sure others would agree with me on this.
- D.D. Warrior Lady - This
card hasn't seen much play since the release of
so many removal cards such as Dimension Prison,
Neo-Spacian Grand Mole, D.D. Assailant (I think
this guy is much better than D.D. Warrior Lady),
etc. I don't think anyone would run no more than
one copy of this guy.
- Deck Devastation Virus -
With Phantom Darkness coming out soon, this card
will be coming out of its hiding place once
again as it becomes a great card for any deck
relying on powerful Dark monsters of 2000 or
more ATK.
- D.D. Assailant - Probably
better than D.D. Warrior Lady and is starting to
see some fair play in multiple decks. This card
is excellent for monster removal and has pretty
good stats as well. Good card that should stay
Semi-Limited.
- Mind Crush - This card
isn't broken at all other than disrupting Gadget
Decks and shouldn't be limited at all. I don't
think this card should be semi-limited at all,
but this position for Mind Crush is just to be
safe for future purposes.
Folks, this MY opinion only on the future
ban list in Spring 2008 so do not harass me
about my decisions. I did some thinking about
the current and future metagame of our beloved
Yugioh.
Now this is the interesting part of my
article if you thought everything above was
boring. I am holding a survey on you guys'
opinion on the following:
- The card you mostly want banned on the next
ban list
- The card you mostly want limited to one copy
per deck on the next ban list
- The card you mostly want semi-limited on the
next ban list
- The card you mostly want unlimited/unbanned
on the next ban list
Please email me in the order how I set up for
you guys. I doesn't matter if you email me in
bullets, numbering, etc. as long as it is in the
order I gave to you above. The due date for all
replies for my little survey is 12 Midnight on
January 19, 2008. All replies given to me past
that time will be ignored and deleted since I
have given a little less than 2 weeks to reply
which is plenty of time for you guys. I'll tally
up the results and post the results as soon as
possible then. If you want to reply to my
survey, have any questions, need deck fixes,
have comments, deck ideas, or just want to talk
about anything related to Yugioh, contact me at
my Yugioh Kingdom at
pathoon@aol.com. Hope you enjoy my little
survey and have fun dueling guys!
