JULY 2008

Deck Fix: Raigeki - Master of Shadows

I bet you were surprised when you saw the deck name. Raigeki. "But isn't that banned?" What is your point? This deck has that name for a reason. When you figure it out, let me know, then we'll both know at the same time. Here's the deck:

Hey Master of Shadows!

I've seen your work on various decks on Pojo.com/yugioh, and I was wondering if you can help me with mine.  My deck is basically a High-Level Beatdown.  This deck was made on tight budget so bear with me please on the expensive cards.

High Level Rush/Beatdown aka "Raigeki"

Monsters - 19

1 Dark Magician of Chaos

2 The Creator

2 Destiny Hero - Dasher

1 Ultimate Tyranno (It is so satisfying wiping out the opponent's field with this)

1 Prime Material Dragon

1 Jinzo

1 Evil Hero Malicious Edge

1 Great Shogun Shien

2 The Calculator

1 Exiled Force

1 Chiron the Mage

1 D.D. Assailant

1 D.D. Warrior Lady

1 Morphing Jar

1 Destiny Hero - Disk Commander

1 Treeborn Frog

Spells - 21

3 Reasoning

3 Monster Gate

2 Foolish Burial

2 Soul Exchange

1 Mausoleum of the Emperor

1 Card Destruction

1 Trade-In

1 Mystical Space Typhoon

1 Smashing Ground

1 Premature Burial

1 Monster Reborn

1 Lightning Vortex

1 Heavy Storm

1 Brain Control

1 Fissure

My Side Deck is still in the making.  You'll notice that I do not run any trap cards in this deck.  The reason is that I want to be aggressive as possible, and the trap cards I have do not help reach my goal.  Destiny-Hero Dasher is a Godsend in this deck.  I am considering adding in another Jinzo, Prime Material Dragon, and maybe  a D.D.R. - Different Dimension Reincarnation.  Disk Commander is in there for draw power (in which I lack in this deck).

Improvements to this deck would be very much appreciated.  Thanks!

Wow. A deck with no Traps in it that's not an OTK deck. This should be very interesting. A beatdown deck. Well, I hate to break it to you, but no matter how aggressive your deck is, you'll still need Traps to stop your opponent. Raw attack power and a tiny bit of Spell support isn't enough. Fortunately, I have a solution. [hides lit match behind back] What? This match is for the illegal documents I "borrowed" from the IRS. It's not for the deck. This is:

Cards to cut:

- 1 Prime Material Dragon (side deck it)

- 1 Evil Hero Malicious Edge

- 1 Great Shogun Shien

- 1 Chiron the Mage

- 1 Morphing Jar

- 1 Treeborn Frog

- 1 Reasoning

- 1 Mausoleum of the Emperor

- 1 Card Destruction

- 1 Smashing Ground

- 1 Fissure

- 2 Soul Exchange

I cut 13 cards from the deck. Prime Material Dragon is better for the side deck, at least for this kind of deck. Malicious Edge is just a big monster with Trample who doesn't really help us much. Great Shogun Shien just helps by restricting what the opponent can play each turn, but a timely Mirror Force, Torrential Tribute, or Enemy Controller (or Gyzarus play) will instantly render it useless. (In Six Samurai decks, they already have counters for things like this.) Chiron the Mage because it burns your hand up unnecessarily. Morphing Jar because there are better options for draw power here that don't help your opponent out. Treeborn Frog because it'll interfere with my plans. Reasoning because the deck (now) can be pretty predictable on monster levels. Mausoleum of the Emperor because you don't want to kill yourself to drop a monster. (If you're going to be paying a lot of Life Points, it had better be for Solemn Judgment, Return from the Different Dimension, or My Body as a Shield, things that'll either save the game for you, or end it for your opponent.) Card Destruction because there's a better option. Smashing Ground and Fissure for better options. Soul Exchange because, as you said, the deck is aggressive meaning you can't afford to let one Battle Phase slip by.

Cards to add:

+ 1 The Creator

+ 1 Exiled Force

+ 2 Destiny Hero - Fear Monger

+ 1 Trade-In

+ 2 Hand Destruction

+ 1 Lightning Vortex

+ 2 Reinforcement of the Army

+ 1 Mirror Force / Torrential Tribute

+ 2 Royal Decree / Bottomless Trap Hole

Wow that was difficult. I added 13. Exiled Force for monster removal. Another Creator to increase your chances of having it (as well as having another Trade-In target to warrant using two). Fear Monger to abuse Disk Commander and Dasher. Hand Destruction for some draw power. Lightning Vortex to replace Smashing Ground and Fissure for some mass removal. Reinforcement of the Army to search out key cards. Mirror Force / Torrential Tribute for some monster removal in mass form that'll somewhat surprise your opponent. Royal Decree to negate your opponent's Traps. Bottomless Trap Hole to stop their monsters.

Other cards that should go in the deck:

Phantom of Chaos - to make use of those in-Graveyard Creators

Elemental Hero Stratos - to pull out key Destiny Heros like Dasher

Card of Safe Return - to make use of The Creator's revival ability, it also replaces the cards sent to the Graveyard

Enemy Controller - protection, helps to stop opposing monsters' tricks (like Gyzarus plays, etc.) and makes it easier to destroy key monsters

Book of Moon - protection, see rest of Enemy Controller

Solemn Judgment / Dark Bribe / Divine Wrath / Magic Drain / Seven Tools of the Bandit - stop various cards the opponent may play, protecting you from whatever

Well, I did what I could, which, unfortunately, wasn't much. Oh well. You win some, you lose...more than some. Maybe someone else can fix it better than I can. Who knows? In the right hands, this deck can be destructive. In the wrong hands, this deck can be self-destructive. Enjoy.

That's all for now, folks. Send everything to darkdestructionv30@yahoo.com

Until next time....
