JUNE 2008
I'm here and ready to writie, plus a theme review -
djgamer
As
my subject title says, I djgamer (josh) have decided
to start writing reviews for pojo.com on their tips
and rant section. Now I know from my first line it
sounds like I am being full of myself but what I
mean is that I have always been interested in yugioh
and other card games and finally have dedicated time
to seriously write to pojo.com (that is if they let
me). Some basic info for those who might write to me
or for everyone in general is I have been playing
Yugioh for 9yrs, or basically since it began. I
never have gone to a regional event but have been to
a few state tournaments and have been to countless
tournaments at my local card shop. Through the years
I have gained much dueling knowledge but mostly
experience. Experience is important in my opinion
because it helps you realize what situations could
happen when you build a deck, what to do in any
situation, and how to build decks in the first
place. I personally like to build anti meta decks
but have no problem working on meta decks. I also
like casual decks because they bring out the most
creativity in this game. Also I like doing theme
reviews because new and old themes in yugioh affect
the current meta alot (such examples are themes like
gladiator beasts, warriors and RFP.)
As I said above in the subject line I will also
write a review. What review you may ask? Well I
thought that for my first review on pojo.com I
should write about one of my current decks... The
Gravekeepers. The Gravekeeper's have been around
since Pharaonic Guardian ( Commandant from Force of
the Breaker) and have always had some kind of
presence among tournaments and casual dueling alike.
Many people had used gravekeeper spy for a strong
2000 def plus search ability. Well even in this
current time Gravekeeper's are still both
competitively and casually playable, mainly for
their ability for special summoning. Nowadays
special summoning seems to make decks top tier
because of its speed, but that's a different article
in itself.
Back to the Gravekeeper's; their support has long
since been helped but because of not only their
attribute being dark and the fact that their
spellcasters they have received some cards to make
them thrive. I'm not going to include every
gravekeeper because honestly not all of them are
worth playing, if you want to win (even though
winning isn't everthing, fun is). Instead of listing
all of them and their abilities I will show my deck
and explain it, since it is practilly what most
gravkeeper's are running (of course others might
have used some different number of cards and one or
two different cards.)

Sorry this is such a long review but I want to try
to get everything said.
Monster Line-up
The monster line-up
is set up to balance out the effects of the
Gravekeeper's that are being used. The GK Guards are
for returning creatures and the fact that with
necrovalley in effect you get a 2400 def monster.
Both Spear Soldier and Assailant are your main
attackers, though unless your opponent has
scapegoated the field you'll want Assailant.
Remember that Spear Soldier gets his effect even
when necrovalley isn't on the field (assailant
doesn't.) Both have effects that help take care of
most monsters and for anything else their are the
spells. Commandant is great to search for
Necrovalley, and is much better than terraforming.
Spy is the ultimate searcher for this deck, right
next to sangan. And yes sangan does get his effect (
I have done the research). Morphing for draw power
and mole for field control. Finally Chief who is the
only tribute in this whole deck. Not only does he
allow you to get back any gravekeeper but in turn
makes your graveyard unaffected by Necrovalley. In
this deck that doesn't make a difference but he is a
great attacker when Necrovalley is out.
Spell line-up
Magical Dimension is
a nifty trick to re-arrange which gravekeeper you
want out, mostly you'll be switching Spear Soldier
to Assailant and vice versa. Lightning, MST, EC,
Book of Moon, and Necrovalley are all obvious
staples for this deck. Brain Control is in here
mainly because sometimes your monsters are not the
strongest on the field and SORL is because nobody
could not want 3 potential turns for stall.
Trap Line-up
3 Sakuretsu armor is
standard for most decks, torrential tribute if your
opponent is special summoning faster than you are
(six samurai or gladiator beast.) Dust Tornado's are
good to help with s/t removal since heavy storm will
not be played. The two interesting cards in the trap
line-up is Rite of Spirit and Magician's Circle both
which offer incredible special summoning abilities.
Rite of Spirit is essentially an unrestricted
chainable monster reborn for gravekeeper's.
Magician's Circle can special summon every monster
except Morphing Jar, Grand Mole, and Sangan. It can
even special summon GK Chief, the only problem is
that this occurs when you attack so threatning roar
can shut this down. Also your opponent gets to
special summon a spellcaster of 2000 atk or less
just like you but that hardly is a problem (with
breaker gone at least.)
Hope you like the deck and have a new outlook on
Gravekeeper's. So as i said before you can contact
me with questions about dueling, or deck fixes, and
occasionally I will review decks or cards or some
kind of deck type. Also if your going to send me a
deck fix tell me what kind of money situation is
available. It isn't fair for me to tell someone to
buy this and that when they don't have like $300.00
at their disposal. Trust me I know this well and I
can make cheaper and still effective changes. Also
what kind of cards you have available, like ( I have
a ton of cards or I have tons of hollows and rare
cards and such or I have only commons and rares.)
This isn't required for every email, but it does
help. Thanks.
