Trading Card Game Tips from fans
March 2008
Hello again and happy March, everyone! This is Daniel, and welcome back again to my deck garage. I’m back today to talk about the new ban that came into effect on March 1st. Now, I will be taking about the list first. Then, as usual, I will be taking about what I will try to do for my article as well as a few other things. However, before I talk about the list, I need to tell all of you something.
First, I want all of you to know that form now on until the ban list gets updated again, if you want to send a deck fix to me, please put it under this ban list. If I spot any forbidden cards in your deck list, I will not fix your deck. Plus, you must make sure that your deck fix e-mail is under my new rules. I will have more details about my deck fixes at the end of this article.
Last, you should know that I will be giving everyone my opinions about why each card that got moved on the list got moved to where it is. That way, you can see for yourselves why each new card that got moved is now banned, limited, semi-limited, or unlimited.
Now that I’m done talking about what I wanted to talk about, I am now going to talk about the new ban list. As I said, here it is for everyone that hasn’t seen the new ban list yet: (Note – this is the same list that is on www.yugioh-card.com. However, this is the advanced format list.)
New Ban List for March 1st

The following cards are no longer limited: Apprentice Magician, Creature Swap, Green Gadget, Jinzo, Pot of Avarice, Reckless Greed, Red Gadget, and Yellow Gadget.
Okay, now that all of you have seen the new list, let’s talk about it. However, I’m only going to talk about the cards that were moved or added to the list. I feel that if I were to start talking about the cards that were removed on the list, I might give all of you some bad reasons for each card. Okay? Now that I have covered all of what I wanted to cover, let’s talk about the newly forbidden cards on the list first.
Newly Forbidden
A. Breaker the Magical Warrior – I think I can see why this card got banned. One of the worst opening moves your opponent can make is:
1. Summon this card.2. Put a spell counter on this card.3. Remove the spell counter to destroy 1 spell or trap card on the field.
I think that by banning this card, you won’t have to worry about your opponent summoning this monster and destroy 1 of your spells or traps for free.
B. Call of the Haunted – This card also got banned due to the way it was being played. When you activate Heavy Storm, your opponent could respond to it by activating Call of the Haunted. Then, he would bring back Destiny Hero – Disk Commander or Sangan for its effect. Finally, after your Heavy Storm resolved, he would be able to draw 2 cards (Disk Commander) or search out a monster (Sangan). So by banning this card, the trouble of your opponent getting free cards from this combo is now gone.
C. Magician of Faith – Due to the large amount of spell cards Magician of Faith can search out of your graveyard, she had to go. I mean, would you want your opponent bringing back a Monster Reborn or Lighting Vortex to uses its effect again just after you think it’s gone for good? I don’t think so. Plus, I wouldn’t want my opponent using something like Hammer Shot again just to keep me on my toes. I am glad that this card got banned anyway.
Let’s look at the newly limited cards on the list now.
Newly Limited
A. Advanced Ritual Art – This card became limited for 1 reason: To stop Demise OTK decks. In other words, with this card now limited, Demise players will not have a harder time trying to put Demise onto the field so that they can destroy every card on the field. Plus, this may be enough to put Demise OTK decks to rest for a while. But, keep your eyes open as this deck may still see play again at a tournament one day.
B. Monster Reborn – With Call of the Haunted and Magician of Faith being banned, I think it was safe to make this card limited again. This is the 1st time in years Monster Reborn became tournament legal. Plus, it should serve as a replacement for Call. So expect to start seeing this card in every tournament deck now. Okay?
C. Nobleman of Crossout – It’s standard now that Nobleman of Cross jumps on the ban list every 6 months. In other words, every ban list, it’s either limited or semi-limited. However, now that it’s limited, you don’t have to worry about your face-down monsters being removed from play by this magic card. Just don’t be surprised if it’s semi-limited again in 6 months.
D. Ojama Trio – Now that this card is finally limited, you don’t have to worry about your monster card zones being filled up with useless Ojama tokens. Plus, your life points will be much safer since your opponent can’t do much damage with the tokens anymore. They’ll have to find another way to damage your life points without the tokens.
E. Raiza the Storm Monarch – Finally, after all the decks that packed this card in them, Raiza the Storm Monarch becomes limited. Now you won’t have to worry about your cards returning to the top of your deck just for you to not draw the card you need at the moment. However, be aware that this card can still be worked around in a Monarch deck, and that Winged Beast is still in most decks these days.
Okay, now that I’m done talking about the newly limited cards on the list, I’m moving on to the newly semi-limited cards on the list.
Newly Semi-Limited
A. Book of Moon – I feel that this card was rise to 2 copies because of this reason: more defense. I mean that now, with this card at 2 copies, it increases your chances of drawing this card as well as to stop more of your opponent’s attacks. Plus, it’s easier to use Book of Moon with your flip effect monsters to use their effects again.
B. Cyber Dragon – With this card now limited at 2 copies per deck, you won’t have to worry about field control half the time. In other words, your opponent will have a lesser chance of drawing this card, special summoning it, and then tribute it for a stronger monster. This is why I feel that this card deserved to be semi-limited. However, Cyber Dragon has got less attention since the 2007 World Championships. But, just be aware of when your face a deck that packs this card in it.
C. Foolish Burial – I really don’t know why this card got semi-limited. However, I do know that most people weren’t running 3 copies of this card in their decks because they might have noticed that the 3rd copy would be a dead draw. Anyway, I am just going to skip this card because I have no other reasons about why Foolish Burial got semi-limited.
D. Light and Darkness Dragon – This card got semi-limited because this card was in too many winning decks. I mean, in a standard tournament, this card would be in about 50% of the top 16 decks. Plus, this card would be run in 3 copies total between the main deck and side deck for each of those decks. Anyway, with this card now semi-limited, you won’t have to worry that much about your card effects being negated.
E. Mage Power – With Magician of Faith now banned, I guess it was safe for this card to go back to 2 copies per deck. However, I really don’t expect this card to be in any deck since I don’t see it in any deck these days. Just make sure that if you face this card in a deck someday, be prepared for it.
F. Magical Stone Excavation – I think that it was safe for this card to go back to 2 copies to replace the fallen Magician of Faith. After all, now you will be able to get back the spell card you need at the moment from the graveyard. Plus, this may be enough for the Diamond Dude Turbo (DDT) deck to shine in the winner’s circle again. Just make sure to put its “Discard 2 cards from your hand” cost to go use.
G. Necroface – I don’t know why this card became semi-limited since it wasn’t ran in any deck up to now. However, I think this card was put on the list to prevent it from being run in 3 copies per deck in Dark Return decks. Just be aware that this card might never be in any tournament decks. Okay?
Okay, everyone! That was every card on the list I wanted to talk about this article. Like I said earlier, I’m skipping the unlimited cards since you should know by now some reasons about why they were taken off the list. However, I do have a few more things I want to talk about before I leave again like I said earlier.
First, I want to let all of you know that I will be going back to deck fixes again in my next article. Plus, I plan on fixing a Fox Fire deck for that article. However, I must let all of you know that it is a deck from the last ban list, but I will try my best at fixing it. Okay?
Second, let me remind all of you that I am still accepting decks fixes from all of you at this point. So, if you want to send me a deck to fix, or you want to talk to me about anything related to my deck fixes or the Yu-gi-oh TCG, you can contact me at Kids6@Worldnet.att.net. I will be happy to read your e-mails if you send me any. However, if you send me a deck fix, please follow my deck fix rules that are under the article titled “New Deck Fix Rules – Daniel.” (Hint – It was posted on the site on February 4, 2008.) Also, please remember that if you don’t follow those rules, I will not fix your deck. Okay?
Finally, please remember that I am a busy man, and it does take me time to write articles for everyone or get back to you if you send me an article. So please be patient if I don’t send it any articles or I don’t send you any e-mails back to you if you send me one. I will to get back to you if I can. Okay?
Well everyone, this wraps up my article for today. Next time, I will be fixing up a Fox Fire deck sent in by Brandon Yokeley like I said earlier. Plus, I will try to make sure that the fixed deck ends up being 40 to 45 cards instead of 50 cards when I fixed my last deck. I’m sorry if it ended up being 50 cards. I’m just not good at fixing decks that have fusion decks with them. Okay? So everyone, try to make sure you send me a deck that doesn’t have any fusion decks. That way, it won’t end up being 50 cards again if I wanted to fix it. Okay? Anyway, until next time, play hard and play fair. Goodbye!
- Daniel
P.S. I will try to send in the next article sometime this month (March). So you should be able to read it sometime this month or April, whenever it gets posted. However, it may take me some time to write the article. So please don’t rush me to write it. Okay?
