Trading Card Game Tips from fans
May 2008
I was
wondering if you could help me on the macro monarch
deck that I was working on for a local tournament. I
have been taking it to my local Saturday tournament
and haven't been doing so well, the main decks that
are used there are Six Samurai and Gigaplant decks,
and I haven't been doing well against either. So,
here is my decklist and I was wondering if you could
give me any suggestions on how to improve it.
Macro
Monarchs
Monsters x19
Yours truly,
Caleb
Hmm… This is a very reactive macro monarch deck compared to most other MM decks I’ve seen. I understand why your running 3 dimensional and 2 macro cosmos instead of vice versa because you play with so many samurai people and I’m guessing that they run more yaichi than kamon, although that theory falls threw the cracks because if they use yaichi, you could just chain macro and they would have wasted yaichi’s attack for almost nothing. They might be running solemn's or dust tornado’s, I don’t know. We’ll just stick with what you think works. So, I’m going to make this deck more towards defeating samurais and Gigaplant decks alike, but still keep it versatile enough to deal with any surprises that might come from non-regulars. I think I’ll try this deck fix a little differently. Instead of looking at the monster, spell and trap line-up separately, I’ll just take out cards that don’t belong and put in cards that are made to counter zed decks. The first cards that will be coming out are the 2 D.D. assailants. Yes, they get rid of trouble-some monsters and I was once beaten down by one until I had a mere 2900 LP (3 attacks), then I pulled off all this skill drain crap and captured the duel. Thing is, against samurai’s, all you can do is kamikaze with irou or take out a yaichi/kamon/spirit of the six samurai, cause if you try to take out one of the bigger ones, they’ll just sacrifice one of the other ones just to keep it (grandmaster or GS shien) alive. As for the spells, I’d like to take out premature burial only because monster reborn is so much better. Another thing I see wrong with your deck is the two creature swaps. While it does combo well with a D.D. survivor or D.D. scout plane while a dimensional fissure or macro cosmos is on the field, that is about it’s only combo and well, to be honest, the d.d. survivor/scout plane with removal agent is already too combo based and in Yu-gi-oh, one thing is always constant; the simpler the deck, the better the performance. So I’ll take both copies out. N.o.C does absolutely nothing in the match up against samurai’s or Gigaplant, so I’ll side deck that card, just incase you come across gladiator beasts (hoplomus) or lightsworn (ryko, lightsworn hunter). Now, onto the traps. WOW, TEN TRAPS, AND NO NEGATION. This is a bad combination because a jinzo will screw you over. First of all, Rftdd is limited, so there goes one copy (this decklist was submitted the day after the changes were just announced, before they became official and he didn’t know about them), also, even though the name is deceiving, radiant mirror force is NOT a good substitute for mirror force, so that is gone as well. The reason Sakuretsu armor is included is because of the rise of gladiator beasts. As a friend has recently told me, “threatening roar doesn’t work against them because it only stops them for a turn. If you try attacking them on your turn, they just chain wabaku. You need to get rid of the little beasts while you have the opportunity”. Unfortunately, saku armor is only good in the gladiator beast match up, so I suggest you side deck both copies. The bottomless trap hole’s will stay in because they can shut down six samurai and Gigaplant decks a like. Ok, so now we have a good 6 spots to fill. Can you say, Exodia? Good, now that we know your tongue works we can continue to fix Caleb’s deck. The first thing to add in is 3 solemn judgements. These will protect your combo pieces from anything, even if it does have a hefty price. Just make sure to side them out before time is called, otherwise you basically have 3 useless draws for the little time you have. The next cards to add will be 2 exiled forces. They are easy 1-1 removal and are searchable by sangan and reinforcement of the army. The final card to add, is snipe hunter, ‘nuff said. -2 D.D. assailants -1 premature burial -2 creature swap -1 nobleman of Crossout -1 Rftdd -1 radiant mirror force -2 Sakuretsu armor +3 solemn judgements +2 exiled force +1 snipe hunter Final Deck: Macro Monarchs: 40 cards Monsters x17 Snipe hunter x1
Solemn Judgement x3
I hope I’ve helped and good luck in all your future
matchs.
