Where Did the Fun go? - Ragna

I decided not to post a deck or anything today but i instead would like to discuss the state of our beloved children's card game. i would like to begin with the subject of card accesibility. I am all for players having access to powerful cards and making Yu Gi Oh all about not being a rich mans game as it was in the dreaded Tele DAD format. I am not a rich man, and played King tiger toolbox through that format and did well enough to get me a 17th at UDE day (heartbreaking yes) but that deck was maybe worth 80$.

My point is you had to have hell of a lot of cash or be a master trade ripper to get the cards for that deck and win consistently that format. That left room for people to be inventive and there could be a plethora of anti meta or rogue decks at an event. Think about this way; after the release of Gold Series 2 how many times did you get sacked by some 12 yr old running a half complete Blackwing deck who topped a Gold Series DAD at the perfect time? With these powerful cards being so accessible, instead of them being utilized in new and creative ways based on individual players they are just being used how they always were, just in a more widespread manner.

But it gets worse seeing as how it looks like certain key LS cards are being reprinted (Charge and Honest) and LS being considered the dominant deck this format everyone will play LS because the best deck will certainly be accessible to everyone. That bothers me. Last format we at least had four dominant deck types because of personal preference, money issues whatever. Now with all these power cards being everywhere and so easy to get (see Doomcaliber Knight) there is becoming less and less initiative for duelists to be creative; instead they are being encouraged to play the same power cards everyone else is. Look, I'm not saying it isn't staisfying to drop a double Judgemnet Dragon for game, because it is, I'm just saying that with everyone having the ability to do that and "play the best deck" where does the variety and creativity come in? It doesn't, because there is no initiative. Disagree with me or whatever, but i loved this game for the variety of opponents and their varying startegies, but it seems like that is going to be a time lost to Yu Gi Oh for at least awhile, as long as all everyone cres about is winning and playing the dominant deck.
