Cloudy with a Chance of Death - Knight of Ni

Now for one of my favorite archetypes which are highly underrated in my opinion…(drum roll please)…Cloudians!!!  Yes these little puffballs are quite devastating when used correctly.  This deck is slow and steady.  You need to generate Fog Counters before you can do much of anything.  But once you do, this deck goes BOOM all over your opponent!  Almost all Cloudians share the following effects:  This monster cannot be destroyed in battle.  When this card is in DEF mode, destroy it.  When this card is Normal Summoned, place 1 Fog Counter on it for each face up Cloudian monster you control.

Monsters

Tethys may seem out of place in this deck, but its effect is why I put her in.  Cloudians lack speed, it’s a well-known fact…maybe not.  But Tethys allows you to draw another card if your draw a Fairy during your Draw Phase.  Luckily most Cloudians are fairies!

Nimbusman is your beatstick.  It may seem weak considering he only starts out with 1000 ATK, but that’s where his effect come into play.  He gains 500 ATK for each Fog Counter on the field.  This can usually mean a lot of ATK on a little fetus-looking cloud.  I can easily get him up to over 5000 in every duel.

Cirrostratus is possibly one of the most important cards in this deck.  Its effect allows to remove 2 Fog Counters from itself to destroy 1 monster on the field.  This effect is technically a +1 card advantage.  Not only that, but this effect isn’t limited to that nasty “once per turn” crap.  You gotta love this card…unless you’re the one who’s looking at it blowing up all of your monsters.

Acid Cloud is Cirrostatus’s brother.  By removing 2 Fog Counters from himself, he can blow up 1 Spell or Trap card.  Amazing!

Ghost Fog is kinda the misfit of the Cloudians.  Why?  Well he doesn’t have the standard “can not die in battle” effect and also doesn’t die when in DEF mode.  In fact, he is MEANT to die in battle, because when he does, he generates 1 Fog Counter per level of the monster that destroyed him.  This is one of the best Fog Counter generators in this deck.  He is usually used to suicide against an amazingly powerful monster to get Fog Counters.  Place them on Cirrostratus and then blow it up.  There are, however, 2 downsides to Ghost Fog.  1, he isn’t Fairy-typed.  2, he can’t be Special Summoned.

Turbulence is one of my favorite Cloudians just because of all the stuff you can do with her (at least I think it’s a her).  Anyways, it’s effect is pretty standard.  Remove 1 Fog Counter to Special Summon 1 Smoke Ball from your deck or either player’s grave (not hand?  Oh well).  This is an amazing effect.  It’s main use is to generate tribute fodder for Nimbusman.  Or fodder for Fog Control.  Thanks to Will, one of my friends at school, we have this combo we pull off with Turbulence.  Step 1, Normal Summon Turbulence.  Step 2, wait until next turn.  Step 3, remove 1 Fog counter from it to Special Summone 1 Smoke Ball from wherever.  Step 4,  tribute said Smoke Ball with Fog Control.  Step 5, place the 3 Counters on Turbulence.  Step 6, remove the 3 Counters to Special Summon all 3 Smoke Balls.  Step 7, tribute the Smoke Balls for Nimbusman.  Step 8, completely own your opponent with a fetus-looking cloud!

Storm Dragon is great card because it can be Special Summoned just by removing 1 Cloudian from your grave from play.  Once per turn, it can place 1 Fog Counter anywhere on the field.  ‘Nuff said.

Of the Cloudians, Altus is probably the most underrated.  The cost for its effect may be the most expensive, but what’s special about it is that you can remove the Fog Counters from anywhere on the field, not just himself.  Another thing to note about it is that it has the most original ATK of all the Cloudians.  Now for its actual effect: remove 3 Fog Counters from anywhere to discard 1 card from your opponent’s hand.  In some ways, this can completely empty your opponent’s hand (uh oh, looks like you’ve got some competition X-Sabers)!  Now losing 3 Fog Counters just to discard 1 card may seem like a big loss, but it’s still a +1 and it can surprise your opponent.  Your hand is often thought of as a “safe haven” for your cards.  There aren’t many effects that make you discard stuff.  In other words, your opponent may be keeping some awesome cards in hand *cough* Honest *cough* DaD *cough* Gorz *cough* Kalut.

            And lastly, Sangan.  -.-

Spells

Cloudian Squall is the best Fog Counter generator in this deck.  It places 1 Fog Counter on EVERY face up monster (including your opponent’s).  Not much else to say here.

Fog Control is mainly a combo piece.  You could dump it for something else if you like.

Summon Cloud is basically the Call of the Mummy for Cloudians, but what’s different about it is the fact that it can revive Cloudians from the grave too.

Sanctuary in the Sky is an absolute must for this deck.  Each of the Coudians have low ATK (except for Nimbusman), so you’ll be taking lots of damage from attacks.  Sanctuary will block all of that damage.  Sure it’s cheap, but hey.

Lightning Vortex, -.-

Giant Trunade replaces the common Heavy Storm, because you don’t wanna lose you’re Squalls or Sanctuaries.  Sure you’ve got copies, but still.  Giant Trunade can be just as effective as the Storm.

Salvage is absolutely wonderful in here.  It let’s you call back any 2 Cloudians from you’re grave, generating another +1!

Anyone who has read my previous designs should know that I love MBaaS.  I just couldn’t part with it.

Finally, Terraforming searches for your SitS.

Traps

Dark Bribe is a great choice for this deck because it can negate almost anything that can ruin your plans.  It may plus a -1, but with all your other +1 effects, it shouldn’t really matter.

Divine Wrath covers your butt from everything that Dark Bribe can’t (JD and DaD especially).

            Finally, CotH is another must.

One card in particular that this deck hates is Skill Drain!I can't tellyou how devastating that card is to this deck.Although, for a the plusside, every card in this deck is protected from Bottomless T.H. except forTethys.I have a slight variant of this deck design and it works very well.  So, again, if you like it, then try it out and see for yourself how powerful the forces of nature can be!

Email me at wheelersatthebeach@atmc.net or ilikepiewheeler@gmail.com for answers to questions on this design or just send me hate mail (which I will promptly throw out).
