YGO Millennium Duels PS3/X360 by Baneful
I tried the demo for the new video game YGO
Millennium Duels (YMD , X360/PS3) and felt very
underwhelmed.
To be perfectly honest, it's a rotten mix of
the faults that have plagued previous YGO games and
controversial modern gaming trends.
It's not worth your time or money.
Seeing all of the cool stuff indie games like Braid
and Super Meat Boy have been doing, the $10 entry
fee alone for YMD should have been enough.
Considering that it doesn't have big-budget
production values and it's a rehash of the same game
mechanics of the past 30 or so YGO games.
It really does nothing new.
But the many $3 DLC packages available to
boost your deck are just insulting.
You start out with a deck full of weak normal
monsters and you grind your way to getting better
cards.
Restricting the player to low-level game mechanics
was okay back then when YGO was new, but not in
2014.
Before this was used as a way to pad out the length
of a game you paid $30 for.
Now, this is just a way to get people to pay
extra money.
The nostalgia was fun, the interface is cool and
it's interesting to see Konami modernize the game,
but it's still just cash-cow that's inferior to the
free Dueling Network.
