on Yu-Gi-Oh Hello, all, and welcome to another edition of “Friday’s Deck Fix!” This week we’re going to be taking a look at a deck that I am currently running (albeit without the Synchro part): Macro Monarch. The idea of the deck is quite simple: using the Macro Cosmos/D.D. Scout Plane/D.D. Survivor engine, you summon out your Monarchs quickly and gain control over the field and your opponent’s hand.
I’ll let Dan tell you about his deck:
Hi Anteaus,
Dan Here’s the build of Dan’s deck:
Monsters (21)
2x Zaborg the Thunder Monarch 1x Raiza the Storm Monarch 1x Mobius the Frost Monarch 2x Caius the Shadow Monarch 1x Cyber Dragon 3x D.D. Survivor 3x D.D. Scout Plane 1x Morphing Jar 1x Spirit Reaper 1x Marshmallon 1x Dark Resonator 1x Breaker the magical Warrior 1x Wall of Illusion 2x Junk Synchron
Spells (13)
1x Smashing Ground 1x Monster Reborn 1x Allure of Darkness 2x Dimensional Fissure 1x Heavy Storm 1x Lighting Vortex 2x Enemy Controller 1x D.D.R. – Different Dimension Reincarnation 1x Mystical Space Typhoon 1x Reinforcement of the Army 1x Brain Control
Traps (6)
2x Macro Cosmos 1x Return from the Different Dimension 1x Torrential Tribute 1x Mirror Force 1x Magic Cylinder
Extra Deck (9)
2x Junk Warrior 2x Gaia Knight, the Force of Earth 1x Avenging Knight Parshath 2x Colossal Fighter 1x Stardust Dragon 1x Red Dragon Archfiend
I like this idea: take the best parts of three different decks and smash them together to make them work perfectly. Dan’s build actually isn’t that bad – it just lacks a few things to make it really consistent in the mid-to-late games, and keeping control of the game I can see Dan having a problem with. The problem with Dan’s deck is that it’s trying to do way too many things at once; what I’m going to try to do is simplify things down and make the deck much more synergistic, while still trying to maintain the original focus of the build.
Dan has the right idea including three copies of both D.D. Survivor and D.D. Scout Plane; these are going to combo well with the discard we’re going to be introducing in the Spell lineup. However, if we’re going to be playing with Synchro monsters, we’re going to need tuners.
-2 Junk Synchron -1 Wall of Illusion -2 Zaborg the Thunder Monarch
+2 Dark Resonator +1 Mobius the Frost Monarch +1 Caius the Shadow Monarch
What makes this deck great is the fact that a lot of the monsters here are Dark monsters, meaning that it’ll combo well with Allure of Darkness for speed. Morphing Jar is an amazing card in this build, because let’s face it: you want your monsters being removed from play, because you have an infinite summon engine utilizing D.D. Scout Plane (allowing you to bring out your Monarchs), and D.D. Survivor pretty much can’t die because he’ll always come back. Wall of Illusion is a good bounce card, but truthfully you need spaces for some Spells and Traps, and adding in a Mobius the Frost Monarch in its place will give you some added protection against stall, burn or destruction traps (Solemn Judgment, Dark Bribe, Mirror Force, Dust Tornado, etc). I pulled out two Zaborg the Thunder Monarch and instead added a third Caius, because Caius is a much better Monarch in the long run and he’s a Dark, so he’ll combo well.
Ultimately we dropped one monster to put the lineup at 20 even. Spells, however, can be a bit tricky, but I’ll see what I can do:
-1 Monster Reborn -1 D.D.R. – Different Dimension Reincarnation -1 Reinforcement of the Army -1 Lightning Vortex -1 Heavy Storm
+1 Dimensional Fissure +1 Allure of Darkness +2 Emergency Teleport
This Spell lineup is short and sweet. You don’t utilize the Graveyard in a Macro deck, so Monster Reborn was an immediate drop, as was Heavy Storm (no point destroying your own Macro Cosmos, right?). Lightning Vortex is a good card, but for this build it’s much better in the side deck than the main deck at this point. Reinforcement of the Army runs well if you’re running more Warriors, but for only three D.D. Survivor there’s not really a point. You’re going to be drawing into one almost every time, and with acceleration cards like Allure of Darkness and Morphing Jar you won’t need to go too far to pull one. But probably the best card to add is Emergency Teleport: without this card, you’d be sitting on a Tier-2 deck. Now, with two Emergency Teleports, you’re going to be beating some of the better players in the game because it’ll give you quick, reliable access to your Tuner monsters, thus enabling you to drop your Synchro monsters quickly and easily.
The Traps, on the other hand, don’t need too much tweaking. However, there is one thing I want to do. Since we freed up three slots by dropping a monster and two Spells, I think it’s only fair that we put in three Solemn Judgments. Solemn Judgment is the best negator card in the game right now, and it’s saved my ass so many times with my own Macro Monarch build…it’s simply amazing. Also, we do need to run a third Macro Cosmos, so we’re going to drop the lone Magic Cylinder for it.
-1 Magic Cylinder
+1 Macro Cosmos +3 Solemn Judgment
Now then, all I did with this deck is rounded the edges and painted the sides. Dan’s build was surprisingly well-built, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more solid Synchro deck than this one. The only problems I see are Teleport Dark Armed decks, but even then with your Solemn Judgments and Macro Cosmos you shouldn’t have too much trouble taking care of them. Your Synchro monsters will handle anything unexpected as well as add an unparalleled level of support to your already amazing Monster build.
Let’s take a recap at the changes:
-2 Junk Synchron -1 Wall of Illusion -2 Zaborg the Thunder Monarch -1 Monster Reborn -1 D.D.R. – Different Dimension Reincarnation -1 Reinforcement of the Army -1 Lightning Vortex -1 Heavy Storm -1 Magic Cylinder
+2 Dark Resonator +1 Mobius the Frost Monarch +1 Caius the Shadow Monarch +1 Dimensional Fissure +1 Allure of Darkness +2 Emergency Teleport +1 Macro Cosmos +3 Solemn Judgment
In the end, we get this build:
Monsters (20):
1x Raiza the Storm Monarch 2x Mobius the Frost Monarch 3x Caius the Shadow Monarch 1x Cyber Dragon 3x D.D. Survivor 3x D.D. Scout Plane 1x Morphing Jar 1x Spirit Reaper 1x Marshmallon 3x Dark Resonator 1x Breaker the Magical Warrior
Spells (11):
1x Smashing Ground 1x Allure of Darkness 3x Dimensional Fissure 2x Enemy Controller 1x Mystical Space Typhoon 1x Brain Control 2x Emergency Teleport
Traps (9):
3x Macro Cosmos 1x Return from the Different Dimension 1x Torrential Tribute 1x Mirror Force 3x Solemn Judgment
The Extra Deck can only have 15 cards maximum, so I’ll let you make the necessary adjustments. I would recommend, however, two or three copies of each major Synchro (Stardust Dragon, Goyo Dragon, Red Dragon Archfiend, etc). The point of your Synchro deck is to control the field absolutely and utilize their effects to the utmost.
This was definitely one of the better decks that I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing. Thank you to everyone for their submissions, and I know I haven’t answered everyone’s email, but the main reason is that I’m incredibly busy at work and rarely have time to sit down and write, let alone fix deck after deck. From now on, I’ll be doing my Friday Deck Fixes, and if you’d like you may submit your decks in this format:
-The subject must say “Friday Deck Fix: Name of Deck.” - Your deck must in this format:
Monsters (#):
1x Blah Blah 2x Blah Blah
Spells (#):
1x Blah Blah 2x Blah Blah
Traps (#):
3x Blah Blah
You don’t need to include the side deck or Extra deck; however, if you’d like help on them, include them and I’ll try to get to them.
Don’t be afraid to email me! I may be a Featured Writer, but I’m still just a duelist like yourselves. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to drop me a line. Make sure you make a reference in the subject line about what this is about (preferably Yu-Gi-Oh! related), as my spam filter does a very good job filtering out spam.
Thanks for reading, and you can always reach me at anteaus44@hotmail.com.
Cheers, Anteaus
