Article 3 of 5: Fear of the Dark
December 23, 2005

Howdy all, to the middle of the week. If you're still reading this, I salute your loyalty. I also salute your absolute boredness, for without it you might be elsewhere, having fun or something and We don't want that do we?

Well, todays review is based a card that seems to be slowly edging its way into competitive play. I myself have come across it at a few tournaments I regular. It's the idol of Fiend decks (Right behind Hades), and it's got quite a kick by itself. It comes with a heavy cost to summon, but the stats alone are worth it. You already know what I'm talking about, and you may be thinking to youself "I haven't come across one of thoses in ages". Well I got news for ya buster, it's just because it actually takes some intelligence to play. It's not a monster that when you drop on the field, your opponant just scoops (Chaos Emporer anyone?). You actually have to think about when you should play it. I'll just get onto the review now, instead of insulting half the YGO community by claiming they're too stupid to use it right. Incase you really didn't figure it out, I'm talking about Dark Necrofear.

LON-065
Dark Necrofear
Dark
Fiend/8/2200/2800
Effect: This card can only be Special Summoned by removing 3 Fiend-Type monsters in your Graveyard from play. When this card is destroyed in battle or by your opponent's card effect, it is treated as an Equip Spell Card at the end of the turn. Equip 1 of your opponent's monsters with this card. As long as it is equipped with this card, you control the equipped monster

Well it's rather obvious what kind of deck this gal belongs in. Her effect is anything but situational, as it basicly means that nomatter what happens, if he dies and your opp has a monster, you're taking it. Plus, he's a 2800 DEF Special Summon. Even if you don't get his effect, he can stall the game for a few rounds before your opponant draws a Smashing Ground.

Though many see his requirements for SSummoning to be a tad expensive, that's one of his best effects by far. Remember a lil monster known as Dark Ruler Hades (Ha Des)? Well we all know Hades can't be special summoned from the graveyard, and don't we always miss him so much once he's gone? Well with Necrofear, and a Return From the Different Dimension, we don't have to miss him. He comes right back onto the field, in all his effect negating glory. Granted it's only for a turn, but that's a turn you'll most likely end the game. With Dark Necrofear and Dark Ruler Hades on the field, your opponant will be happy surviving till next turn. That's a grand total of 4650 direct. That's without even including the other possibly removed monsters, such as Slate Warrior, and Archfiend Soldier. All together that could equal 8450. In other words: Game. This can be achieved with a few monsters just dying off, which isn't something that's difficult to do nowadays. With DD Assailant running rampant, chances of you having a good 1900 ATKer RFG'ed are pretty good. Combine all this with a Smashing Ground or Nobleman of Crossout, and you're almost assured victory. Only thing that'll stop you is the rarely seen Waboku or the more often seen Scapegoats, but what're the chances of either of those being set. About 1/20 if you're really wondering. Definately good chances for you.

Well, she's Dark, which makes her Chaos Food. Don't get any ideas though, she takes three Darks just to get herself out, plus all it takes is a set DDA to stop her from hitting the grave. She's a Fiend, which provides her with tons of support, more then enough to make up for her lackluster 2200 ATK. She's a Special Summon, which is ALWAYS good as you can SS her, then sac her for Mobius in one turn. She's got enough ATK power to equal a Goblin Elite Attack Force and more then enough to beatdown on almost any other 5 star or lower. I say 5 star to refer to Airknight Parshath of course. She's definately worth playing in a Fiend deck, and is actually one of the first few Supers I pulled. I remember it well, for I pulled at a tournament with my good friend Rob looking over my shoulder. LON had just come out, and I was the first person in the store to get one. I also remember it because at that time, my deck consisted of 3 Blue Eyes and a Summoned Skull. Everyone starts somewhere, always remember that. Every veteran used to have as many Blue Eyes as he could acquire.

But I digress as usual, this girl is definately playable in the right deck. Can't be searched by anything, but in Traditional Fiend Decks she's quite the force to recon with (Hello Painful Choice and Graceful Charity). I'd have to give him a good rating, as I love her so much. Yes, I also realise that I'm giving a gender to a piece of cardboard. Cars can have genders, so why not cards?

Advanced Fiend: 9/10 (Not including Dark World)
Traditional Fiend: 9.5/10 (BLS weeps)
Art: 8.5/10 (This chic looks rather scary)

And now it's time once again for a review from one of my guests. I know him as Blithed Penguin from AIM, however he requested his name to be Alex "A-Mart" Martin. Here he is:

Well, I'm the guest writer for today's Card, the six-y Dark Necrofear. For the record, I am the one who's deck was featured a few articles ago, and I personally (obviously) use a Dark Necrofear. Let's check out her stats, shall we?

She's a two tribute (bad) dark/fiend (good) for 2200 atk (bad) and 2800 def (bad). But wait a minute! Let's look at her effect!

"This card can only be Special Summoned by removing 3 Fiend-Type monsters in your Graveyard from play. When this card is destroyed in battle or by your opponent's card effect, it is treated as an Equip Spell Card at the end of the turn. Equip 1 of your opponent's monsters with this card. As long as it is equipped with this card, you control the equipped monster."

Seems awfully six-y, doesn't it? She is special summoned by removing 3 Fiend mons in the grave, which is easy enough. 2200 atk beats that Cyber Dragon, and 2800 def means she can stall against that Mobius if necessary, though I don't see why you'd stall when you can use her effect instead.

When she's destroyed, she is brought back at the end of the turn to take an opponent's monster. She has to be a monster, however, or the effect won't work. You can use her effect even if they use a Solemn Judgment or Horn of Heaven (lol), but they can't negate her becoming an equip spell.

If you don't control her when she's destroyed, it won't happen. If she's removed before her effect activates, it doesn't go. A nice part of her second effect, however, is that it includes battle. So if they beat your Necrofear with that Mobius, just take it away from them. Necrofear provides a 1 for 1 almost always, and you won't lose field presence until she gets destroyed, or her monster goes.

Personally, I love her effect, and I love stealing things from people. You can call me biased if you like, as I probably am. Now for actual scores...

Traditional Fiend Deck:
2.5/5 - Too much m/t removal here for her effect to go off and stay off for long.
Advanced Fiend Deck:
4/5 - Moreso for a controlling fiend deck that is somewhat dedicated. Some fiends are Beatdown that don't need her so much.
That's it for today sucka.

- David "BobDole" Hoffman & Alex "A-Mart" Martin

Notes: I had to rewrite this article multiple times, as I wrote it originally at about 2:00 AM, then realised I called Dark Necrofear a dude about a dozen times. Yea, this was one of the harder ones.
