Article 5 of 5: The El Capitano
December 23, 2005
Once again my faithful
followers, it is time for an article. Most likely, this will
be the fourth put up today. Due to lack of internet working
correct during the night time. So beside the stupid excuses,
this article is based around one of my favorite cards in the
current game. He's a Warrior (Surprise surprise), he's a
staple in Earth/Warrior Swarm and if there's two of him on
the field, your opponant can't even consider an attack.
Granted you won't see him too often, due to his rather low
ATK, and his effect does require an extra card from your
hand. However, he can give you a turn where your opp can't
attack Don Zaloog or a defensed Goblin Attack Force. He's
the head of the army, the fierce and bold leader, the El
Capitano: Marauding Captain. I love this guy. First day I
pulled him, I knew I was destined to run Warrior. Besides
that however, he's got quite alot he can do.
LOD-018
Marauding Captain
Warrior/Earth/Effect/3/1200/400
As long as this monster remains face-up on the field, your
opponent cannot select another Warrior-Type monster on your
side of the field as an attack target. When this monster is
Normal Summoned successfully, you can Special Summon 1 Level
4 or lower monster from your hand.
Well he's an Earth, which is what most Warriors are. Not too
much support for that, but it works well in Earth Swarm
utilizing Gigantes. He's a Warrior which provides a TON of
support. I listed a few in my previous article. He's a 3
Star monster, which is always good. He can attack under
G-Bind, Messenger, and Level Limit, though you won't be
attacking into too many monsters with him. He's good with
Goblin Attack Force, purely to increase the damage done in a
turn. Clear the field, summon him with GAF, and there's 3500
direct. Not only that, but your opponant can't attack GAF
until he's attacked Marauding first. That's quite a deal for
a card in hand.
He does have his weaknesses, as without something powerful
to assist him into play, he'll be wide open for no real good
reason. But the thing is, he doesn't require any other
Warriors to work. You can summon him out with anything level
4 or lower. This brings out Rare Metal Dragon (Whens the
last time you saw one of those), Mystic Swordsman LV4, and
anything else that you may have sitting in hand. Bring out a
Berserk Gorilla, or a Sangan. Just not a Breaker the Magical
Warrior.
Well, a few combos he has are rather obvious. Two of him
makes it so your opponant can't attack either, which is nice
for stalling. Him and Mystic Swordsman LV4 work together
well. There's a combo I do enjoy though. It takes Don Zaloog,
Marauding Captain and Torrential Tribute. Firstly, you'll
want your opponant to have a few monsters on the field.
Let's say he has DD Assailant and a used Breaker on the
field. First, you summon Marauding Captain, and ask the
usual "Response?". Then, if they choose not to respond-which
mosts they will- chain Torrential Tribute to his summoning.
The cool thing is though, is that since it was activated
prior to the his second effect, you stil get the second
effect. So while you just wiped out their entire monster
line-up, you can now bring out Don Zaloog and hit direct for
a card in hand. This evens things out and if you want you
can use GAF instead. That's just one of the many things the
amazing Marauding Captain can do. I love him, and you should
too. The only thing that doesn't love him is that jerk
Kinetic Soldier.
Advanced: 8/10 (That's the unbiased truth)
Traditional: 7/10 (This does rely on cards in hand)
Art: 10/10 (This guy couldn't look any cooler, not if you
tried)
Unfortunately, there will be no guest writer today. The
person who had originally volunteered had a family crisis,
so he couldn't put time side for a review. Thanks for
reading though, and if you actually managed to read all the
articles, major props to you ma' man.
