Deck Review: Earth Swarm
January 13, 2005

Boy howdy all. That's about as interesting a greeting as you get. Considering the fact that I'm surviving on Mountain Dew Code Red right now (I got five 12 packs for 10$), this article will likely have bad spelling errors and just kinda go off track at random. My hand's cold.

Anyway, I figured since I've been reviewing the more serious decks recently, I need to do something not exactly Tier 1, but definitely powerful. This is a deck I really like. It can finish games real quick if you use it right. It's biggest problem however, is it's lack of stability, and constant topdecking it causes. But before I go into any of those details, let's take a look at the build I recently threw together.

Monsters: 19

3x Gigantes
2x Goblin Elite Attack Force
2x D.D. Assailant
2x Giant Rat
2x Legendary Jujitsu Master
1x Injection Fairy Lily
1x Cybernetic Cyclopian
1x Drillroid
1x Exiled Force
1x Morphing Jar
1x Breaker the Magical Warrior
1x Sangan
1x Cyber Jar

Magics: 16

3x Smashing Ground
2x Giant Trunade
2x Brain Control
1x Snatch Steal
1x Dark Hole
1x Heavy Storm
1x Premature Burial
1x Book of Moon
1x Pot of Avarice
1x Gaia Power
1x Nobleman of Crossout
1x Mysticl Space Typhoon

Traps: 5

3x Royal Decree
1x Call of the Haunted
1x Torrential Tribute

Odd looking huh? Well it actually works relatively well. Gigantes swarms, whil stuff like Goblin Elite Attack Force provide brute force. Legendary Jujitsu Master adds for a bit of field and hand control. Giant Rat can help you in a tight spot, and Drillroid is great if they set something prior to swarm. Injection Fairy Lily is a beast in this deck. With Gaia Power on the field, she's a 3900 ATKer for 2000 LP. That's just 100 short of dealing double damage. Basically half your opponents life points with just her. Plus if you use a Brain Control, and get out a Gigantes, it's almost certainly Good Game. That's why this deck can be devastating. With a clear field and three earth monsters on the graveyard, you can swarm for 7200 with Gaia Power on the field. This is almost always done early on in the game, as your chances of keeping Gigantes on the field are rather small. Your opponent will want to use some form of removal, as killing him in battle creates a Heavy Storm effect. Pot of Avarice may look out of place, but with 19 monsters you'll almost always have a few things to put back. Cybernetic Cyclopian is purely for when you're topdecking. With Gaia Power on the field he's a 2900 beatstick while topdecking. Basicly handing you any commonly run monster in the game. He can even suicide tribute monsters without Gaia Power. Only reason he's run with one is because you don't want to be topdecking. Decree stops any and all traps right then and there. Trunade clears the field incase of no Decree.

Now the thing you'll want to do with this deck is waste time. Play completely control style, letting your opponent ease into a tempo they like. They'll often become comfortable just killing your monsters and amassing a hand. That's when you set Decree and just smile. They'll set a monster and expect to finish you quickly. That's when you whip out Gaia Power, normal summon Injection Fairy Lily, special summon a pair of Gigantes and Nobleman of Crossout their facedown monster. Right there it's game. Not only does it work, but it's not that hard to do.

The sidedeck helps this out quite a bit. It's meant to adjust completely in-between matches. You can go from quick, to way way way quicker swarm.

Monsters: 7

2x Elemental Hero Wildheart (Incase they run multiple Decree, plus it works with Return From the Different Dimenion)
2x Bazoo the Soul Eater (Helps Return)
2x Cybetic Cyclopian (Incase of a good Control deck)
1x D.D. Assailant

Magics: 1

1x Enemy Controller (Incase of a Goat lover)

Traps: 7

3x Return From the Different Dimension (Swarm!)
3x Dust Tornado (Help for Swarm)
1x Ceasefire (When you have five monsters out, this is just mean...)

Yes, it does look rather odd. But you can change out the Royal Decree for Return From the Different Dimension to screw your opponent in round two. They'll side out traps for a few more magics, figuring they'll gain advantage from not running traps, then you can swarm with Return for a real quick game. Nothing like removing two Wildheart for two Gigantes and a normal summoned Cynetic Cyclopian, then flipping Return from the Different Dimension. You can basicly just stare your opponent in the face and simply state "Unless you have three Kuriboh in your hand, you're d-e-d dead". I love playing this deck, and hopefully one day I can stabilize it enough to make it a Tier 1. Just remember that if you're going to be using Bazoo, drop out Pot of Avarice. Two Bazoo and three Gigantes can lead to a very empty graveyard later on.

Overall, I love this deck, and I suggest you make a copy and try it yourself. Adjust it to your personal play style of course. Otherwise you'd be Netdecking, and I dislike the idea of Netdecking. There's a reason originality is dying in YuGiOh. That reason being people think they can play a deck exactly the same as the creator. Which they can't, because the creator learns all his cards and combos, whereas the player simply uses the same combos stated on Metagame. I ran into a ton of Return From the Different Dimension decks, and honestly without siding anything, I slammed the players around. Purely and simply because they don't understand how the deck works properly. This is also why Toolbox Warriors is popular, it's simple. You don't have to know every combo to use a TBW Deck well. The entire idea is explained in the title, and most players can figure it out from there.

Well, hopefully this article is posted up, as my last one was sent two days ago and still isn't up. Guess I'll send it again. Have a fun weekend everyone. I have a basketball game this weekend against Medford. We're gonna slam them. Though sadly enough I am the tallest player at a staggering 5'10". Meh, it's a Church league, what d'ya want. We can't all be Shaq.

Notes: I almost always have notes... Anyway, I'll post up some pictures from the game in my next article, and give a good report of how it went. Of course, the article won't be based around the game, it'll probably be some Deck Review or something...
