SOI Set Sneak Peak
By: Coin Flip
Anyone who HASN’T been to a Limited Event probably won’t do
well next weekend no matter how much they read (unless
they’re really pro or really lucky) so I won’t bother
introducing everyone here to the concepts behind Limited
Play. That’s a much larger topic. But here’s an overview for
Shadow of Infinity.
All of the emperors suck horribly, but the LIGHT one (Hamon)
can actually be summoned if you manage to pull three copies
of Samsara or Ancient Gear Castle combined. The DARK can be
summoned, but there are only two Fiends in the set, one dies
easily, and one is a Super Rare and a ritual.
Hero Kids can make your field very large very quickly, but
it isn’t worth it. You’ll deck out. If you don’t, then there
are two Tribute Monsters worth playing in Sealed anyway.
Antique Gear Cannon (500/500 Machine) is a nifty 500 damage.
Don’t ignore it. The same thing goes for Instantaneous
Bomber (Rare 1000/1000). It is one of three ways to kill a
monster in SOI, so use it. The two beatsticks of the set are
a 1600/1500 Machine that boosts its own ATK in a Machine
King-like way, and Disciple of the Forbidden Spell, which
doubles as an awesome beatstick and a method of killing
monsters.
There’s a 2500/800 double tribute monster in the line of Big
Core and the B.E.S. monsters. It may have more longevity
than them, though.
There is a 4-star 2400 ATK monster in the set that is
bomb-ass in Limited. It increases the likelihood of both win
conditions in most Limited games; deckout and losing by LP.
It’s a normal rare, and whenever it attacks or is attacked,
the opponent draws a card. It is one of two cards that, if
you pull them, will win you the flight.
The other Insects are a 2400 Trampler, a 2000 ATK special
summon monster that destroys m/t cards (yours and your
opponent’s), and a 2800/2600 beast of an insect that can be
Special Summoned by removing two Insect monsters from your
graveyard. It’s a rare.
A 100/100 WATER/Aqua is the hot card of the set, and it’s
basically a Sinister Serpent redux. It is meh in Limited.
A 700/1000 will help you deck your opponent out, but it
requires that you play multiples. =\ A 1000/1000 that
increases its own ATK by 500 for each copy of itself in the
graveyard is another thing to watch out for. If you get
three, you’ll have another 2000 ATK monster.
Sand Moth is the best defender in the set with 2000, but
don’t expect it to win you every game. It’s a stall card.
The two Ritual Monsters of the set are both incredible
creatures. If you pull one, consider yourself very lucky.
Seal of Succession will occasionally be cheap revival for
strong monsters.
“Super Junior Showdown” will end your opponent’s Battle
Phase, and “Damage Condenser” will give you more monsters.
Karma Cut is the only monster-killing card in the whole set
that isn’t a monster. One other card will also increase your
LP if a monster of yours dies in battle.
If you pull multiples of any of these cards (especially the
2800/2600 or Disciple of the Forbidden Spell or the 2400/0 4
star...) I hate you.
This set isn’t nearly as good for Sealed events as EEN and
CRV were. CRV had sexy Sealed/Limited events.
Pretty much, look for the following cards (if their actual
name is confirmed, I will not post their effects or stats)
Disciple of the Forbidden Spell (call EARTH)
Chainsaw Insect
Ruin, Queen of Oblivion
Demise, King of Armageddon
Anteatereatingant
A 2800/2600 Insect
A 2400/600 Insect
And, to a lesser extent
Grass Phantom
Treeborn Frog
Sand Moth
