DM7FGD's Look Into the Future

Article #15 - The Self-Boosters

For today’s article, we’ll be taking a look at 2 cards of the future that have self-ATK-Boosting Effects. We begin the Article with a look at the Legend Devil.

Legend Devil

Dark/Fiend - Level 6 - 1500/1800

Effect: During each of your Standby Phases, increase this Monster’s ATK strength by 700 points.

Legend Devil was released in Japan as an Ultra Rare promo from the Valuable Book IV. There’s no telling when it will be released in English.

Legend Devil is the most effective self-power-up Effect Monsters in the game, in my opinion, anyway. Most of the time, you should be able to get Legend Devil up to 2900, 3600, or perhaps even more ATK relatively easily, and only by its own Effect. After Summoning Legend Devil, you’ll just need some protection for it until your next turn, in which it will boost itself up to 2200 ATK points. Why would it need protection? Well, a 1500 ATK Monster really won’t last on the Field for too long.. A Waboku, Swords of Revealing Light, or other obvious Trap Cards like Mirror Force or Ring of Destruction could also aide in protecting your Legend Devil.

Legend Devil, as you may have noticed by its ATK strength of 1500, may even be brought out by the Mystic Tomato. Now, having that ability makes it more of a versatile Monster, and certainly a lot faster than some other High-Level Monsters out there. It can be brought out by the Tomato, as well as Searched by Sangan.

Also, being a Fiend, there are quite a few different decks that Legend Devil could do pretty well in.. Dark-Type decks, some Beatdown decks, and Demon/Fiend decks. Having this Monster raise its own ATK strength during every one of your Standby Phases certainly makes this Monster one to be reckoned with as being a pretty powerful Monster.

Overall, I’d rate Legend Devil a 7.3/10. Not to mention it’s a very fun card to play, as well.

For the second card review of this article, we’ll take a look at Satellite Cannon..

Satellite Cannon
Light/Machine - Level 5 - 0/0
Effect: This card can’t be destroyed in Battle by any Monster of
Level 7 or less. During each of your End Phases, increase this
Monster's Attack strength by 1000. After this Monster attacks, its
Attack strength becomes 0 again.

Satellite Cannon was released as a Japanese Secret Rare promo card from GB8. No telling when its English release will be, either.

Satellite Cannon's a pretty interesting card that doesn't get as much credit as it probably deserves, and doesn't see too much play these days (Not even in Machine decks), but I really don't see why. A pretty obvious thing to do would be to stall w/ Cannon, keeping it on the Field for 4 turns, raising its attack to 4000, play Limiter Removal, and then attack for the win.

The thing is, though, it's a bit hard to do since its ATK is raised during each of your own End Phases. And with all the Monster destruction out there, without the right stuff protecting Satellite Cannon, (Imperial Order, etc.) it won't last as long on the Field as you'd want it to. With my experience of playing Satellite Cannon, I've been able to get it up to no more than 3000 ATK points.

Note that, just like Spirit Reaper, it can still be damaged by attacks, it just can't be destroyed if the Monster attacking is of Level 7 or lower. That's a pretty good stall tactic in itself, meanwhile raising its own Attack power. But since after attacking, its ATK is lowered back down to 0, you'll usually want to power it up to at least 3000 before attacking with it. Because of your want to do that, Satellite Cannon probably will not last on the field for too long, and you could have ended up with a 2000 ATK Monster with an empty Field to attack through, yet you chose not to attack because of wanting to raise its ATK higher, then your opponent destroys it during their next turn. Just use Satellite Cannon wisely. You should know when the right time to use its Attack will be.

Also note that Satellite Cannon can be searched by either of the Searchers, Witch or Sangan, and can also be brought out by why of Shining Angel.

Satellite Cannon can be good in decks such as some Light-Type decks, and some Machine Decks, but not too much else.

If you can use Satellite Cannon along with Imperial Order, you'll probably have quite an easy time raising Satellite Cannon's ATK power to your desire. I'd give Satellite Cannon an overall rating of 7/10. It’s another pretty fun card to play.
