DM7FGD's Look Into the Future

Article # 26 - Crafty CarToons

For today’s article, we’ll be taking a look at a few Japanese Toon Monsters that have yet to be released in English, and the rulings on these specific Toon Monsters. Let’s begin with the Rulings..

The rulings for these Toon Monsters in this article, known as Type-C Toons, are as follows. Just see where I explain the Type-C Toons. These are the rulings for all types of Toon Monsters.

Type-A Toon Monsters - Toon Monsters released in the Pharaoh’s Servant Set. (English Magic Ruler Set) - Toon Mermaid, Toon Summoned Skull, Toon Dragon Egger (Manga Ryu-Ran), Blue Eyes Toon Dragon.

- Can’t be Summoned unless you have Toon World in play.
- Summoning these Toon Monsters count as a Special-Summon.
- Unable to attack on the Turn they are Summoned.
- Require you to pay 500 LP for it to attack.
- When Toon World is destroyed, the Monster is destroyed, as well.
- Are able to attack the opposing player directly, unless the opponent also controls any Toon Monsters.

Type-B Toon Monsters - Toon Monsters from the Japanese DM6 game. (Toon Dark Magician Girl)

- Same as Type-A Toon Monsters, except for 2 differences.

- Can attack the turn it’s Summoned.

- Does not require an LP-payment in order to attack.

Type-C Toon Monsters - Toon Monsters that were first released in the Japanese Pegasus Structure Deck, and not before-hand. (These include Toon Gemini Elf, Toon Cannon Soldier, Toon Masked Sorcerer, and Toon Goblin Strike Team)

- Can be Summoned without the need for Toon World to be in play.
- Summoning these Toon Monsters count as a Normal Summon.
- Unable to attack during the Turn they are Summoned.
- If Toon World is destroyed, the Monster is destroyed, as well. (Though Toon World doesn’t have to be in play at all for these Toons)
- Able to attack the opponent directly if you have Toon World in play.
- Unable to attack the opponent directly if the opponent also controls Toon Monster(s).

And those are the Toon-Rulings.. Onto the Toon reviews of today’s article. We begin with a look at Toon Cannon Soldier.

Toon Cannon Soldier

Dark/Machine - Level 4 - 1400/1300

Effect: This Monster can’t attack during the turn it’s Summoned. If your Toon World is destroyed, so is this card. If you have a Toon World in play, and your opponent doesn’t control any Toon Monsters, this Monster can attack your opponent directly. You may sacrifice one Monster on your side of the Field to inflict 500 points of damage to your opponent.

Toon Cannon Soldier was an Ultra Rare released in the Japanese Pegasus Structure Deck. There’s no telling when it might be released in English.

Toon Cannon Soldier can certainly be quite an effective Monster. And if it weren’t for its Effect that it can’t attack during the turn it’s Summoned, some may argue that this card is actually better than the regular Cannon Soldier.

With the same stats as Cannon Soldier, at 1400/1300, Toon Cannon Soldier’s just as versatile in that area. Remember, Toon Cannon Soldier is a Type-C Toon Monster, so Toon World does not have to be in play to be able to use it. But, if you do have Toon World on the Field, and it gets destroyed, your TCS will be going with it.

Toon Cannon Soldier keeps the ability of the regular Cannon Soldier, of being able to Sacrifice a Monster to do 500 damage to your opponent. This Effect can certainly be useful in various situations. Use it with Scapegoat, the Searchers, Serpent, itself, or anything else you may want to Sacrifice to do 500 damage. It may not seem like too much at first, but that what seems to be small amount of damage can easily aide you in victory.

Not only does TCS have the same Effect as Cannon Soldier, it also has an added-on Effect, being a Toon Monster. If you have Toon World in play, which, mind you, is not needed when playing this Monster, and your opponent doesn’t control any Toon Monsters, you can attack directly for a nice and easy 1400 damage. And being able to be searched by the Witch, Critter, and the Tomato is always nice.

Being a Dark/Machine, and a Toon, Toon Cannon Soldier can fit well into some Dark-based Decks, some Machine Decks, Burner Decks, and of course Toon Decks.

Overall, I wouldn’t consider Toon Cannon Soldier better than Cannon Soldier, simply because of the fact that TCS can’t attack during the turn it’s Summoned. It’s pretty close, though, and the added-on Effect nearly makes up for it. I’d give Toon Cannon Soldier a rating of 7.3 / 10.

For the second Toon of today’s article, let’s take a look at Toon Gemini Elf..

Toon Gemini Elf

Earth/Magician - Level 4 - 1900/900

Effect: This Monster can’t attack during the turn it’s Summoned. If your Toon World is destroyed, so is this card. If you have a Toon World in play, and your opponent doesn’t control any Toon Monsters, this Monster can attack your opponent directly. If this Monster does Battle Damage to your opponent, your opponent must randomly discard one card from their Hand.

Toon Gemini Elf was also an Ultra Rare from the Japanese Pegasus Structure Deck. No telling when its English release may be, either.

Toon Gemini Elf is similar to Gemini Elf just as Toon Cannon Soldier is to Cannon Soldier. Same stats, same Level, same Main / Sub-Types. But the Toon Gemini Elf has a pretty nice added-on Effect on top of all that.

Like Toon Cannon Soldier, Toon Gemini Elf is a Type-C Toon Monster. Therefore, it can not attack the turn it’s Summoned, and it doesn’t need Toon World to be in play, though if it is, and it gets destroyed, your Toon Gemini Elf will be going along with it. And if you do have a Toon World in play while you have Toon Gemini Elf on the Field, and your opponent controls no Toons, which is pretty likely, TGE can attack directly. A direct hit for 1900 damage is certainly nothing to scoff at, and especially not when TGE’s Effect comes into play.

Toon Gemini Elf has an added-on Effect, as in, an Effect that the regular Gemini Elf does not have. When Toon Gemini Elf does Battle Damage to your opponent, they have to discard a card from their hand. A Zaruug-like Effect by a Monster with 500 more ATK points. That could be pretty powerful, especially when coming from a Monster with 1900 ATK.

The only big downside to TGE is that it can’t attack during the turn it’s Summoned. It could be a drawback due to the probability of it being destroyed by your opponent during their following turn. But if you can keep it on the Field, your opponent will most likely be in for quite a bit of trouble, especially if you’ve got Toon World out and protected with it. Nothing like 1900-damage direct attacks with a discard on top.

Toon Gemini Elf’s certainly one of the better Toon Monsters out there, especially since it‘s a Type-C, without the absolute need for Toon World. It can go well in Toon Decks, of course, some Earth-based Decks, and some Magician-based Decks. It’s usually pretty fun to use, too. I’d give Toon Gemini Elf an overall rating of 7.5 / 10.

Now for a look at the final card of today’s article; Toon Dark Magician Girl..

Toon Dark Magician Girl

Dark/Magician - Level 6 - 2000/1700

Effect: This Monster can only be Summoned if you have Toon World in play. If your Toon World is destroyed, so is this card. If your opponent does not control any Toon Monsters, this Monster can attack your opponent directly. If your opponent does control any Toon Monsters, this Monster must choose a Toon Monster as the target of an attack. Increase this Monster’s ATK strength by 300 for each Dark Magician and Magician of Dark Chaos (the Ritual Monster) in each player’s Graveyards.

Toon Dark Magician Girl was released in Japanese as a Secret / Ultra Rare from the DM6 game. There’s no telling when its English release will be, either.

Toon Dark Magician Girl too is similar to the regular Dark Magician Girl, but with added-on Toon Effects. TDMG is a Type-B Toon Monster, and the only one in its class. It’s just like the Type-A Toon Monsters, except TDMG can attack during the turn it’s Summoned, and it does not require an LP payment in order to attack.

The basic Toon rulings / Effect for this one here.. It can only be Special Summoned if Toon World’s in play; if Toon World’s destroyed, so is the TDMG; if your opponent controls no Toons, it can attack directly; if your opponent does control any Toons, TDMG must choose one of the Toons as the target of an attack.

Toon Dark Magician Girl’s Effect can come in handy in Magician Decks, but not too much so anywhere else., nor does it fit into many Deck-types at all, since it’s usually not even a Toon you’d want to include in a Toon Deck, though it could be a pretty fun card to use. The ATK gain for Dark Magician and Magicians of Dark Chaos in each players’ Graveyard can add up to be quite a bit with the right amount of cards in your Graveyard.. Three of each in there and you’ll have a 3800-ATK Toon Dark Magician Girl, not including the pretty slim chance of your opponent having any in their Graveyard. It can prove to be useful and effective, but it usually won’t be too much so. Not exactly too great of an Effect on Toon Dark Magician Girl.

It can’t be searched by anything, so it’s a rather slow Monster card, as well, and since it does require Toon World to be in play, it’s not exactly going to be easy to keep it on the Field, let alone get it out on the Field in the first place. The only real thing it has going for it is the direct attack ability, and the fact that when you bring it out, it’s a Special Summon.

Overall, Toon Dark Magician Girl’s not too good of a Monster card, and not even in Toon Decks. I’d give Toon Dark Magician Girl an overall rating of 6 / 10.

And that’ll do it for today’s article; Crafty CarToons. Until next time..
