Article #7 - Mechanized Monsters of
Mayhem Here for my 7th Article, we’ll be taking a look at 3 Machine-type Monsters of the current Japanese game and future English game. Since Limiter Removal was recently taken off the English Restriction list, I thought these Monsters might interest people. We begin with a very interesting Monster called Reflect Bounder. Reflect Bounder
Light/Machine, Level 4 - 1700/1000 *Released as a Super Rare in the Japanese 304-Power of Guardians set. Will be released in English in the set after Magician’s Force. This card is restricted to 1.* This Monster has an interesting Effect, similar to that of Magic Cylinder, so some refer to this Monster as the “Monster form of Magic Cylinder.” This card is not only good for that Effect, but it is also a very good card for stalling. It’s a Monster your opponent certainly would not want to attack, as if they did, they’d be the one taking some hefty damage, and not you. Say your opponent has a Jinzo on the Field, and you have Reflect Bounder. Jinzo attacks Reflect Bounder. Here’s how that would resolve: Attack goes through. Opponent takes 2400 damage from their Jinzo attacking Reflect Bounder. You take 700 damage from Jinzo’s attack. Reflect Bounder is destroyed. The Effect can be quite useful in many situations including if you need a good stall card. It’s also very good in the late game when LP counts are getting low. The only real downside to this Monster is that it’s destroyed after damage is calculated, but for the damage it will do before being destroyed, that’s not too big of a downside. 1700 ATK and the ability to be searched out by the Witch isn’t too bad, either. All-in-all, I’d rate Reflect Bounder about an 8/10. Fun card to use, and pretty effective a majority of the time. Moving on, we have a Monster that was released as a Common from the Japanese 306-Controller of Chaos set; Bowgunian. Bowgunian
Dark/Machine, Level 3 - 1300/1000 Here we have an interesting Machine-type Monster with a nice burn Effect. Being Level 3, having the ability to be searched out by the Witch, Sangan, and Tomato, having a not-so-good yet not-so-bad 1300 ATK strength, and doing an extra 600 LP damage to your opponent during each of your own Standby Phases is pretty darn good. Bowgunian’s a very fun card to use. I myself have some experience using this card in my Japanese Malik deck, and it always seems to work quite nicely. If you can stall with this card out on the Field, perhaps with something like Gravity Bind, this card can be very Effective. 600 LP every Standby Phase isn’t exactly anything to laugh at, and really, 1300 ATK isn’t all that bad at all. With the right protection, this card can be great, but even without it, it’ll nicely help you for at least a turn or two. There’s not too much else to be said about this Monster, as its Effect is pretty obvious and pretty much explains it all. Overall, I’d rate Bowgunian about a 7.1/10. It’s a good card, and although it’s usually very fun to use and try out in decks, it’s not exactly great. For the final card of this article, we have yet another intriguing Monster that was released in Japanese as a Rare from the 306-Controller of Chaos set; Drillago. Drillago
Dark/Machine, Level 4 - 1600/1100 Drillago’s quite a good and effective Monster. With such an Effect as it has, 1600 ATK strength is pretty nice. And with 1100 DEF, it can be searched out by the Witch, of course, which is always a plus. Here are a few things with Drillago that may be a bit confusing.. 1. What if your opponent controls 1 face up Monster with, say, 1700 ATK, and one face down Monster? Could Drillago still attack directly? - The answer is no. In order for Drillago to be able to attack directly, the opponent must control nothing but face up Monsters, and all of them must have at least 1600 ATK strength. 2. Do all of the opponent’s Monsters have to have 1600+ ATK, or does only 1 of hem have to? - All of the opponent’s (face up) Monsters must have 1600 or more ATK strength, otherwise Drillago may not attack directly. Even so, it is pretty likely that if your opponent controls a face up Monster, that it will have at least 1600 ATK strength. That makes it easier for Drillago, but as pointed out before, the 1600 ATK, even if Drillago isn’t able to attack directly, really isn’t that bad at all. This Monster is one of my favorites in the game. I run one Drillago in my Malik Deck as well. It’s very fun to use, and usually pretty effective, even if it doesn’t get to use its Effect of attacking directly right away. Overall, I’d rate Drillago a 7.8/10. Now for an example of what a Machine Deck might look like with the above-mentioned Machines..
Monsters: 16 1x Jinzo Magic: 19 3x Limiter Removal Traps: 5 1x Imperial Order Fusion Deck: 4 1x XYZ-Dragon Cannon Total: 40 + 4 Fusion And here is a picture of the 3 featured Machine Monsters of this article: And that’ll do it for my 7th Article.
