DM7FGD's Look Into the Future

Article # 33 - Tactical Toons

Alright, you guys voted, and after nearly 4,200 total votes, a majority of you wanted to see some more Toons be reviewed. So for today’s article, we’ll be taking a look at the remaining Toon cards of the OCG that have yet to be released in the TCG. We begin with a look at Toon Goblin Strike Team.

Toon Goblin Strike Team (Toon Goblin Attack Force)
Earth/Warrior – Level 4 – 2300/0
Effect: This Monster can’t attack during the turn it is Summoned. If your {Toon World} is destroyed, this Monster is destroyed. If you have {Toon World} on the Field and your opponent doesn’t control any Toon Monsters, this Monster can attack directly. If this Monster attacks, it is switched to DEF mode at the end of the Battle Phase, and its position can’t be changed during your next turn.

Toon Goblin Strike Team is a Type-C Toon Monster. (See article # 26) It was a common from the Japanese Pegasus Structure Deck. No telling when English release will be.

Because Toon Goblin Strike Team is a Type-C Toon Monster, its Summon counts as a Normal Summon, and having Toon World in play is unnecessary. The only thing having Toon World in play would be necessary for is if you want to attack directly with TGST, even if your opponent has Monsters out on the Field.

As with other Toons, the not being able to attack during the turn it’s Summoned is a bit of a drawback. This gives your opponent an easy and open chance at getting rid of your TGST before you get to do anything with it. But the fact that you don’t need Toon World to play this card is a pretty nice advantage, although there aren’t too many Decks out there besides Toon Decks that you’d want to include this card in.

If you do have Toon World out when you have TGST out, though, your opponent could be in for a bit of trouble. You’ll have out a 2300 ATK Monster that has the ability to attack directly. A 2300 direct attack is nothing to laugh at. Just make sure your opponent doesn’t have control of any Toon Monsters. And just like Goblin Strike Team itself, Toon Goblin Strike Team has to switch to DEF position after attacking, and has to stay in that position during your next turn, as well. That’s another drawback about it, but it’s not too big of one unless your opponent is running a Deck with some Trample tactics.

TGST can be searched by Toon Index, Calling Reinforcements, or Black Forest Witch. That’s some nice speed with this Monster card, as well. Quite good for any Toon Deck, really. And of course, note that if you do have Toon World in play when using this Monster, when it gets destroyed, so will your TGST.

I’d give Toon Goblin Strike Team an overall rating of 7/10, 7.8/10 for Toon Decks. For the second card of today’s article, we have Toon Index.

Toon Index

Normal Magic

Effect: Search your Deck for a card with “Toon” in its name and add it to your Hand.

Toon Index was a Super Rare from the Japanese Pegasus Structure Deck.

Toon Index is a pretty interesting card, and although it may not seem like it, it can shine in a few Decks other than just Toon Decks.

Toon Index is *the* searcher for any Toons. Toon World, other Toon Indexes, any Toon Monsters, etc. Whatever Toon card you want, simply activate Toon Index, and you’ll get it. Simple as that.

Not only is Toon Index great with any Toon-related Deck, but Toon Index can also be good in a variety of other Deck types, used as fast Graveyard fuel. How, you ask? Well, take Reversal of Worlds (Article # 5) Decks for example. The usual point of those Decks is to fill up your Graveyard as quickly as possible to activate Reversal of Worlds early. Well, with Toon Index, that could be a quick 3 cards into your Graveyard for RoW fuel. Activate one, search for another Toon Index. Activate that one, search for the last Toon Index. Activate that one and search for something like a Toon Cannon Soldier. (You don’t have to have other Toon Cards in your Deck to activate Toon Index) Then you can bring out that Toon Cannon Soldier and immediately launch it off for a quick 500 damage and a fourth (if not more) card in your Graveyard. Pretty useful, and great for thinning your Deck.

There’s not much else to say about Toon Index, really. I’d give it an overall rating of 6.4/10, and 8/10 in Toon Decks. Moving on, we have Toon Defense.

Toon Defense

Continuous Trap

Effect: Whenever a Toon Monster of Level 4 or less is attacked, the controller of that Toon Monster may choose to receive that attack directly, instead.

Common from the Japanese Pegasus Structure Deck.

Toon Defense is certainly an interesting Trap Card. It’s Continuous, so it could be easily destroyed, but it’s most likely one that you’ll not want to include in your (Toon) Decks most of the time.

Its Effect is self-explanatory, really. If you have a Level 4 or less Toon Monster out on the Field, and your opponent attacks it, you can choose to receive that attack directly, instead, saving your Toon from being destroyed. The same goes for your opponent. If they have any Toon Monsters, Toon Defense would work for your opponent, as well, as it affects all Level 4- Toon Monsters on the Field.

There’s not too much else to say about Toon Defense.. It’s an interesting card, but it isn’t too good. I’d give Toon Defense an overall rating of 3.5/10, and 5.8/10 for Toon Decks.

For the third and final card of today’s article, and the last Toon card that is released in the OCG and not in the TCG, we have the Toon Masked Sorcerer.

Toon Masked Sorcerer

Dark/Magician - Level 4 - 900/1400

Effect: This Monster can’t attack during the turn it’s Summoned. If your {Toon World} is destroyed, this Monster is destroyed. If you have {Toon World} on the Field and your opponent doesn’t control any Toon Monsters, this Monster can attack directly. If this Monster does damage to your opponent, Draw one card.

Common from the Japanese Pegasus Structure Deck.

Basic Type-C Toon Monster rulings for this one, just like TGST, so I won’t repeat them again.

Toon Masked Sorcerer is a pretty nifty Toon Monster. Drawing cards is always nice, and to be able to Draw a card when using TMS, all you need to do is damage your opponent. That won’t be too hard since TMS can just attack directly if you have Toon World in play and your opponent has no Toon Monsters of their own.

But with stats of just 900/1400, it might not be so easy in most cases, and TMS can be easily destroyed by almost anything your opponent might have against you. But still, as I said, Card Effects that allow you to Draw extra cards are always nice, and TMS could be a good addition to any Toon Deck.

You usually won’t want to include Toon Masked Sorcerer in any Decks besides Toon Decks, though. It can be searched by Witch, Critter, Tomato, and Toon Index. Quite a few Search options with TMS, making it a bit of a speedy card, as well.

I’d give Toon Masked Sorcerer an overall rating of 6/10, and 7.2/10 in Toon Decks.

And that’ll do it for Article # 33 - Tactical Toons. Look for a new poll in my next article. E-Mail me with any questions and/or comments at dm7fgd32@hotmail.com

Until next time..
