Article # 40 - Entities of Evil Whoa, big #40 here already.. Well anyway, for today’s article, we’ll be taking a look at a couple of cards from the new Japanese 309 set, as well as a promo card. Let’s start off with a look at End of Anubis. End of Anubis Dark/Demon - Level 6 - 2500/0 Effect: While this card is face-up on the Field, all Effects (Monster, Magic, or Trap) that target the Graveyard, and all Effects that activate in the Graveyard are negated.
End of Anubis was the Secret Rare from the Japanese 309 set. It will be released in English in the set after IOC. Well, for starters, with End of Anubis, you can basically immediately say goodbye to your Summoned Skulls. End of Anubis has 2500 ATK, and with 0 DEF, it can be searched out by the Witch, making it easier to get into your Hand for Summoning. It’s a pretty powerful Monster just in its stats alone. Then comes the Effect of End of Anubis. It’s just like a powerful Monster version of Necrovalley. Any Effects dealing with the Graveyard are going to be negated with this big guy on the Field. This means no Witch, no Critter (Sangan), no Snake (Serpent), no Revival Cards, etc. Nice and powerful Effect, as Graveyard-Effects are some of the most effective in the entire game, and End of Anubis negates each of them. Note that it also affects your own cards, as well, but when you have End of Anubis out on the Field, that’s really not too big of a drawback. The Effect can be very useful. An official ruling on End of Anubis has been released, saying that it is not able to negate “Remove cards from the Graveyard to Special Summon” Monster cards. This means simply that it cannot stop things like CED, Chaos Soldier, or Chaos Sorcerer from being Special Summoned by their Summoning Effects. Not only that, but the art on End of Anubis is just downright awesome. 309 was one of the best sets for card-art in a long time, if not the best for art, in my opinion. End of Anubis could be a good card for Dark-based Decks, Demon Decks, and Fun Decks, among a few other types, depending on what you’d be interested in including it in. It’s a very good card (and so far underrated) overall, as I see it, and I’d give End of Anubis an overall rating of 7.9/10. Moving on, we take a look at Spirit of the Pharaoh. Spirit of the Pharaoh Light/Zombie - Level 6 - 2500/2000 Effect: This Monster can’t be Normal Summoned, and can only be Special Summoned by way of {First Coffin}‘s Effect. When this Monster is successfully Special Summoned, you may Special Summon up to four Level 2 or below Zombie-type Normal Monsters from your Graveyard to your Field.
Spirit of the Pharaoh was an Ultra/Parallel/Ultimate Rare in the 309 set. It too will be released in the English set after IOC. Spirit of the Pharaoh.. Quite an interesting Monster card. It’s a Light/Zombie-type, as unusual as that may sound. It can fit well in Fun Decks and some Zombie Decks. First of all, it has some pretty powerful stats of 2500/2000. Both a solid ATK strength and a solid DEF strength. The only problem with that is that it cannot be Searched, but in how you Special Summon SotP, that’s not a problem whatsoever. You can only Special Summon SotP by First Coffin’s Effect. It cannot be Revived, no matter what. So what’s First Coffin’s Effect, you ask? First Coffin Continuous Trap Effect: During every one of your opponent’s End Phases, play a {Second Coffin} and a {Third Coffin} from your Hand or Deck, in that order. If any one of these three cards leave play, all three of these cards are destroyed. When you have all three of these cards on the Field, you may send them all to the Graveyard to Special Summon one {Spirit of the Pharaoh} from your Hand or Deck. Second Coffin and Third Coffin are both Continuous Magic Cards with the Effect of “This card can only be played by the Effect of {First Coffin}. So, simply get a Third Coffin out onto the Field and wait for your opponent’s End Phase to arrive. Once it does, play your Second and Third Coffins, then send them all to the Graveyard to Special Summon a SotP from your Hand or Deck. That’s the only way you’ll be able to Summon SotP, which is kind of a downside of the card since it can‘t be Revived. Once you finally get SotP out onto the Field, you’ll have a chance to Special Summon up to four Level 2 or below Zombie-type Normal Monsters from your Graveyard, for even more damage. (Note that Normal Monsters are Monsters without Effects) And since they’re all Special Summons, (this assuming you have no other Monsters on the Field at the time of SotP’s Summon) you could just Revive three Normal Monsters from your Graveyard, then Normal Summon another Monster from your Hand with higher ATK, to do some mass damage to your opponent. Or you could even Special Summon all four that you’d have the option to, and have one to Sacrifice for a high-level Monster in your Hand such as Vampire Lord. That Effect can be useful in many ways, and although those Level 2- Normal Monsters won’t be too powerful, (you could Special Summon Pharaoh’s Servants (900 ATK Level 2 Normal Zombie) and/or Pharoahnic Guardians (900 ATK Level 2 Normal Zombie) by SotP’s Effect, for example) they can certainly be made to be with helpful cards such as Thousand Energy, which is a Normal Magic card that raises all Level 2 Normal Monsters‘ (excluding Tokens) on your side of the Field ATK and DEF strengths by 1000 points each until the End Phase of the activated turn, in which all Monsters affected by it would be destroyed. With that card and your Spirit of the Pharaoh bringing back four of some mix of the Servant and the Guardian, you could have an army on the Field of a 2500 ATKer, and four 1900 ATKers. Can you say.. Ouch? That’s a total of over 10,000 ATK power you’ll have on the Field in a single turn. And even without Thousand Energy, if you’re able to bring back four Level 2’s by its Effect, that’d still be a total of 6100 ATK strength you’d have on the Field in a single turn. That’s pretty darn devastating. Spirit of the Pharaoh can be a very fun card to play, but not many would be willing to go through the trouble of using it. I would give it an overall rating of 7.3/10. Not to mention that it too has some pretty sick (I mean that in a good way XD) art. Moving on, let’s have a look at.. Hmm.. What to review.. Ah, how about.. Nah.. Let’s see.. *Goes through card album* .. Alright; Spirit Controller - Puppetmaster.
Spirit Controller - Puppetmaster Dark/Demon - Level 6 - 0/0 Effect: When this Monster is successfully Tribute-Summoned, you may pay 2000 LP to Special Summon two Demon-type Monsters in your Graveyard to the Field. The Special Summoned may not attack during the turn that they are Special Summoned by this Effect.
Puppetmaster was an Ultra Rare promo from the DM7 Strategy Guide. There’s no telling when its English release might be. Lots of Level 6’s in today’s article. This time we have a very interesting Monster card in Spirit Controller - Puppetmaster. Its main use is in Demon-based Decks, as is obvious by reading its Effect. It’s obviously not a powerful Monster, with stats of 0/0, but its Effect certainly can be very powerful, and can make up for the fact that Puppetmaster is near useless except for its Effect. When you Tribute-Summon Puppetmaster, you can Special Summon two Demons from your Graveyard. Bring back a Dark Master Zork (if possible), a Giant Orc, a Newt (Slate Warrior), an End of Anubis, a Demon Soldier, etc. There are a couple of drawbacks to the Effect, though. For one, the cost to use it is a hefty 2000 LP. The Monsters you may Special Summon may make up for that, though. The other drawback is that the Special Summoned Monsters cannot attack during that turn. So you should try to have some protection for them after Special Summoning everything. One card that Puppetmaster can work well with in Special Summoning would be the Goblin King. Goblin King’s a Level 1 0/0 Demon with an Effect that allows it to gain 1000 ATK for every other Demon-type Monster on the Field, and while you have other Demons on the Field, it can‘t be attacked. By Special Summoning it with Puppetmaster’s Effect, you’ll have a Level 1 Monster with at least 2000 ATK, possibly more if you and/or your opponent has any more Demon-type Monsters on the Field. It could come in handy in quite a few situations with Puppetmaster. As I said, Puppetmaster’s main use is only in Demon Decks. Even then it’s really not too good of a card unless you‘ve got some protection ready for your Puppetmaster and the Monsters it Special Summons. I’d give Spirit Controller - Puppetmaster an overall rating of 6/10.
And that’ll do it for Article # 40 - Entities of Evil. You can e-mail me with any questions and/or comments at dm7fgd32@hotmail.com My next article will be another Character-based article. Which character, you ask? Just stay tuned to find out. ;-) Until next time.. ~DM7~
