Article # 41 - Mai’s Militia Welp, it’s been a little while, (haven’t had too much free time lately) but I‘m back today with my 41st article. Today’s article is, as I mentioned in my last article, another Character-based article. And today, we’ll be taking a look at a few cards of Mai’s of the current OCG and future TCG. (Btw, for those wondering, OCG = Official Card Game = Japanese Yu-Gi-Oh!/Duel Monsters, and TCG = Trading Card Game = English Yu-Gi-Oh!/Duel Monsters) Let’s begin with a look at the oh-so-anticipated Harpy Lady SB, a.k.a. Cyber Harpy. Cyber Harpy Wind/Winged-Beast - Level 4 - 1800/1300 Effect: This Monster counts as a {Harpy Lady}. Cyber Harpy was a Japanese Ultra Rare promo card from V-Jump, so there’s no telling when it might be released in English. Well, Cyber Harpy’s certainly better than its counterpart the Harpy Lady. Being a Wind/Winged-Beast Monster with stable, searchable stats of 1800/1300, this card can be good in Harpy Decks, Winged-Beast Decks, or Wind-based Decks. Not to mention Mai-based Character Decks. Its Effect is simple. It counts as a Harpy Lady. So what that means is all it is is the same exact thing as Harpy Lady (can be used in all the same ways with same cards such as Harpy Lady Triplets), except more powerful. But what it also means is the following. You cannot have 3 each of Cyber Harpy and Harpy Lady in your Deck. You may only have a total of 3 of some mix of them. That’s either 3 Cyber Harpy and no Harpy Lady, 3 Harpy Lady and no Cyber Harpy, 2 Cyber Harpy and 1 Harpy Lady, or 2 Harpy Lady and 1 Cyber Harpy. You can’t have more than 3 of a card in a Deck, and since Cyber Harpy counts as a Harpy Lady, you can only have a total of 3 of either of them in your Deck. I don’t have too much else to say about Cyber Harpy, so I’ll just let you guys ask me some questions about it if you have any after what I‘ve reviewed. I’d give Cyber Harpy an overall rating of 6.5/10. Let’s now take a look at Cyber Shield.. Cyber Shield (a.k.a. Cyber Bondage) Equipment Magic Effect: Equip this card to either a {Harpy Lady} or {Harpy Lady Triplets}. Increase the equipped Monster’s ATK strength by 500 points.
Cyber Shield was a Japanese Promo from the GB2 game. No telling when its English release might be. Well, what Cyber Shield does is pretty obvious, and there’s nothing too special about it, nor is there much to say about it. It explains itself. A simple 500+ increase to the ATK strength of any Harpy Lady it’s equipped to. 500 points isn’t really too much of an increase, but in some cases it could be just enough to get done what needs to be done. You can’t equip this card to any other card, as it must be equipped only to Harpy Ladies/Harpy Lady Triplets. Just pretty much a fun card for fun Decks. I’d give Cyber Shield an overall rating of 1.5/10. 6/10 for Mai/Harpy-based Decks. Next, we take a look at Dunamis Valkyrie. Dunamis Valkyrie Light/Angel - Level 4 - 1800/1050 - Normal Monster - Dunamis Valkyrie was a Secret Rare promo from the Japanese GB3 game. There’s no telling when it might be released in English. If you don’t recall, Dunamis Valkyrie was used by Mai in the show when she went up against Malik and his Death Guardius, and with help of her Silver Screen Mirror Wall, Dunamis was able to defeat the Death Guardius, only to be overcome by Willed Mask, by Death Guardius’ special ability, putting the Valkyrie under Malik‘s control. So anyways, Dunamis Valkyrie is just another semi-powerful Normal Monster. It can fit well into some Light and Angel-based Decks, as well as of course Mai-based Character Decks. 1800 ATK isn’t so bad, really, but it gets overcome easily by many Monsters that’ll usually be in your opponents’ Decks. Having a searchable DEF strength is always a nice thing to have. Overall, Dunamis Valkyrie is a stable Monster, but it’s not exactly anything special. I’d give it too an overall rating of 6.5/10. And lastly, here’s a look at the Amazoness Chain-Wielder. Amazoness Chain-Wielder Earth/Warrior - Level 4 - 1500/1300 Effect: If this Monster is destroyed in battle and goes to the Graveyard, you may choose to pay 1500 LP to choose a Monster card in your opponent‘s Hand, and add that card to your own Hand. You may use the card as your own, and when it gets sent to the Graveyard, it goes into its original owner’s Graveyard.
Amazoness Chain-Wielder was a Japanese promo card, as well, so again, there’s no telling when it might be released in English. The Amazoness Chain-Wielder is a very interesting Monster card. No other Monster card in the game with such an Effect. For starters, it’s an Earth/Warrior, and an Amazoness, so it can fit well into Earth-based, Warrior-based, Mai-Character-based, and Amazoness-based Decks. It has stable stats of 1500/1300, which also makes it searchable by both of the main Searchers. 1500 ATK isn’t all too bad, really, and it can end up causing quite a bit of damage to your opponent. Chain-Wielder’s Effect comes into play once it’s destroyed in Battle. Once it’s destroyed, you may pay 1500 LP to take a quick look at your opponent’s Hand and choose a Monster card there to add to your own Hand and use as your own for the whole rest of the Duel. This could come in handy at almost any time in a Duel when your opponent has Monsters in their Hand. You can take from them Monsters such as Yata, Jinzo, or anything they have that you want. (And yes, the Effect could be used on an opponent’s Mataza the Zapper (Surprising Matasa) if they have one of those in Hand, since its Effect is only in effect while face-up on the Field. Also, if you use the Effect on an opponent‘s Yata (or any other Spirit Monster), and you later Summon and attack with it, it will still be returning to your Hand, not the original owner’s (your opponent‘s), as it’s only when the Monsters taken from Chain-Wielder hit the Graveyard that they return to their original owner.) Just remember that when the Monster you take control of is destroyed/sent to the Graveyard, it goes back into its original owner’s (your opponent’s) Graveyard, and not your own. Overall, I’d consider the Amazoness Chain-Wielder to be a pretty effective and fun card to use in quite a few types of Decks. I’d give it an overall rating of 7/10.
Now to finish off today’s article, here’s an example of a Mai-based Character Deck. Monsters: 16 2x Harpy Lady Triplets Magic Cards: 17 3x Cyclone Trap Cards: 7 2x Silver-Screen Mirror Wall Total: 40 And that’ll do it for Article # 41 - Mai’s Militia.
