Article # 48 - Commanding Warriors Hey-hey-hey, everyone. For my 48th LItF article here, I’ll be looking into a few more of the future Warrior Monsters of the TCG and current OCG. We begin today’s article with a look at Sun Warrior. Sun Warrior Light/Warrior - Level 5 - 2100/1400 Effect: When this Monster battles a Dark-type Monster, increase this Monster’s ATK strength by 500 for the damage step.
Sun Warrior was released as an Ultra Rare in the Jounouchi Structure Deck Volume 1. There’s no telling when it might be released in English. Sun Warrior’s certainly an intriguing Monster card that you could find useful in Light-based, Warrior-based, and any Deck which goes up against an opponent who uses lots of Dark-type Monsters, obviously, making it a good Side-Deck-able card, as well. It requires only 1 Tribute, being Level 5, and it has a searchable (by Witch) DEF strength of 1400, and a pretty stable ATK strength for its Level at 2100. Its Effect is what makes this Monster even more powerful, as there’s a very likely chance that your opponent will be running quite a few Dark-type Monsters. The Effect is simple, really. If it goes into Battle with a Dark-type Monster, its ATK strength is raised by 500 for the damage step. Say Sun Warrior goes into battle with an opponent’s Jinzo. Sun Warrior attacks with only 2100 ATK strength, but during the damage step when, without the powerup, Sun Warrior would be destroyed by the Jinzo, Sun Warrior’s ATK increases to 2600, doing 200 damage to the opponent and ridding of their Jinzo. It could come in handy in many situations such as that one. Its Effect is similar to that of Lily’s, only that there is no cost involved and there is a slight stipulation to it. There’s really not much else to say about Sun Warrior that isn’t evident just by seeing its Effect. A good card for it to combo with could be DNA Replacement Surgery, changing all face-up Monsters to Dark-types. Overall, Sun Warrior is a pretty fun and averagely-effective Monster card. I give it an overall rating of 7/10. The second featured card of today’s article is the ever-popular Command Knight. Command Knight Fire/Warrior - Level 4 - 1200/1900 Effect: This Monster cannot be the target of an attack if you have any other Monsters on your side of the Field. Increase the ATK strengths of all Warrior-type Monsters on your side of the Field by 400 while this card is face-up on your side of the Field.
Command Knight was also released as an Ultra Rare in the Jounoushi Structure Deck Volume 1. There’s no telling when it will be released in English, either. Command Knight.. A solid Fire/Warrior.. Intriguing indeed. At Level 4 and with stats of 1200/1900, it can be searched by Calling Reinforcements, and Sangan. Its type makes it viable for Fire-based and Warrior-based Decks, which is nice because Fire-types don‘t have much support these days. It can put up a solid Defense (which is what most people do with it when first using it in a Duel; setting it in face-down DEF position), and its ATK is average after getting its power-up. The first part of its Effect: It cannot be the target of an opponent’s attack if there are any other Monsters on your side of the Field. However, remember, that Monster Effects are not active while face-down, so if you have Command Knight face-down with another Monster on the Field along with it, your opponent can still choose your face-down Command Knight as an attack target. But anyways, this Effect can be nice because Command Knight is its own protection, which is sometimes necessary when using it as it’s not too powerful of a Monster even after its own power-up. The second part of its Effect is great for Warrior users. All Warriors on your side of the Field get their ATK strengths raised 400 points while Command Knight’s face-up on the Field. And yes, that power-up counts for even Command Knight itself, making it a 1600/1900 Monster when face-up on the Field. It’s a pretty nice Effect, and an extra 400 ATK for each of your Warriors for free is pretty nice. It’s also pretty cool when you get Command Knight out on the Field along with a D.D. Warrior Lady. You have a 1600-ATK Command Knight that can’t be attacked, and a 1900-ATK D.D. Warrior Lady that would have to be attacked if your opponent chooses to attack at all, which really isn‘t too likely when you‘ve got that lineup out on the Field. Command Knight is a pretty widely-used card, though not as much now as it was back when it was first released and up until about a year ago. But it’s still a pretty effective card, and a shoe-in for Warrior Decks, as it will be when it’s released in the TCG, right along with Blade Knight; another Warrior that many are anticipating for release and that was reviewed in my 3rd article back a while ago. Overall, Command Knight is a pretty fun and effective Monster Card. I give it an overall rating of 7.7/10. The third and final featured card of today’s article is a Warrior that was just released in the latest Japanese set - Soul of the Duelist - as a Super/Ultimate Rare (SOD-JP033). Moon Warrior Girl. Moon Warrior Girl Dark/Warrior - Level 6 - 2100/1400 Effect: When this Monster battles a Light-type Monster, increase this Monster’s ATK strength by 1000 for the damage step.
Moon Warrior Girl was just recently released in the newest Japanese set - Soul of the Duelist, as a Super Rare / Ultimate Rare. It will be released in English in the set after Ancient Sanctuary. First we have the Sun Warrior, now we have the Moon Warrior Girl. And both with the same stats and similar Effects, yet different Levels and Main-types. How fitting. Anyways, let’s start off with the basics. MWG’s a Dark/Warrior, making it mostly viable for Dark-based and Warrior-based Decks. Its stats are average for its Level, and with 1400 DEF it can be searched out by the Witch. If your opponent’s using a lot of Light-types, this is the card to use against them, so this could also be a very good Side Deck card. Its Effect, like Sun Warrior’s, is very self-explanatory. Whenever it goes into Battle with a Light-type Monster, its ATK is increased by 1000 for the damage step. That’s pretty powerful for a Level 6 Monster. 3100 ATK when in battle with a Light-type Monster at no cost whatsoever or anything of the sort. This could be good even against Chaos Decks, as Moon Warrior Girl is even capable of taking out Chaos Soldier - Messenger of Creation (Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning) by 100 ATK points! Not by much, but hey, it still gets the job done, and that’s all that really matters. Moon Warrior Girl is a very fun and effective Monster card to play in the right Decks and against certain types of Decks. It’s a card to at least consider having in your Side Deck, no matter what Deck you’re running, as there are going to be plenty of times when MWG can come in handy to you. Again, there’s not much else one can say about Moon Warrior Girl, but if you have any further questions or anything feel free to ask me. I give Moon Warrior Girl an overall rating of 7.7/10.
And to finish up today’s article, here’s a Warrior Deck example using the featured cards of this article. (And yes, I’ll use English names, and this time it will not be in accordance to the Banned List, although anything put in parenthesis is what could replace certain cards if the Deck were to be in accordance to the Banned List.)
