DM7FGD's Look Into the Future ...
Article # 59 - The Flames that Can’t be Tamed 3.14.05 In today’s article, we’ll be taking a look at a few Magic/Spell and Trap Cards of the OCG and future TCG. (No, no reviews of new Fire-type Monsters; sorry) So we begin with a look at a Super/Ultimate Rare card from the Japanese The Lost Millennium set (to be released in English after Flaming Eternity); Brainwash - Mind Control. Brainwash - Mind Control Here we have Mind (Brain) Control.. The long-anticipated card that many once said would never be released because of Change of Heart and Snatch Steal. Well, here it is. The card that can now be used as a replacement for the banned Change of Heart. Of course, it’s not as good, but it’s a very suitable replacement, and you’re likely to want to use this card in quite a few different Decks. Its Effect is simple. You just pay 800 Life Points to gain control of one of your opponent’s face-up Monsters on their side of the Field. This can come in handy in many situations, either setting up your opponent for some mass damage, or perhaps just to make Summoning a high-level Monster easier for you. The Monster you choose to take control of will return to your opponent at the end of the activated turn, however, so it would be wise to make sure that the 800 LP you’ll be paying to use Brain Control will be worth the cost. And even Book of Moon can’t stop Brain Control. Say you activate Brain Control and choose an opponent’s face-up Jinzo. They chain that with a Book of Moon to flip their Jinzo face-down, thinking it would prevent Brain Control from resolving. But that isn’t the case. Even if your opponent flips their Monster (that you chose via Brain Control’s Effect) from being face-up to face-down by some Effect, Brain Control will still be able to resolve on the chosen Monster, only you would get it face-down. Overall, Brainwash - Mind Control is a pretty good card that you’ll at least want to include in your Side Decks if not in your Main Decks. Rating: 7.5/10. Next; Nitro Unit, a Rare from the TLM set. Nitro Unit Nitro Unit is an interesting new Equipment Magic card that can be quite good for Burn Decks, as well as some Side Decks. It cannot be equipped to one of your own Monsters, as its Effect states. Only to one of your opponent’s Monsters, but it’s not like that’s a bad thing. When you equip an opponent’s Monster with Nitro Unit, your opponent better hope they have a Cannon Soldier, Mystik Wok or something similar handy, because Nitro Unit will be ready to deal out some hefty damage to your opponent‘s Life Points. When the equipped Monster is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard, Direct Damage is done to the opponent equal to the equipped Monster’s ATK strength. And that’s its current ATK strength, not just its base ATK strength. This can combo really well with things like Lava Golem, or just quite simply any high-ATK Monster your opponent might have out on the Field. Even something with as low as 1200 ATK strength could be a good Monster to equip Nitro Unit to. I believe that Nitro Unit might have a slight chance of being Restricted or Semi-Restricted sooner or later. It has some good potential, and it’s a good card to try out a couple times for yourself to see how it works for you. Either way, I would still say it’s a good card to consider including at least in your Side Deck. Rating: 7.2/10. Lastly; we take a look at an Ultra Rare Promo card you may recall me mentioning in a past news article of mine; Soul Line. Soul Line Soul Line.. Another interesting Special Summon card. This one’s not as useful or as beneficial as the others, but this can sometimes be a fun card to use, especially in Decks with cards that might otherwise be tough to get out onto the Field (such as Terrorking Archfiend). Soul Line can only be activated when a Monster of yours is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard, whether by a card Effect or in Battle. You then must pay 1000 Life Points to Special Summon a Monster from your Deck to the Field. The only thing is, the Monster you Special Summon has to be Level 4, and that’s it. This card can help you rush your opponent, or just keep your opponent from doing any extra damage to your LP if they get rid of one of your Monsters. It can work well with any Monster in your Deck that is Level 4, but the 1000 LP payment won’t necessarily always be worth it for this card and the Monster that you might bring out with its Effect. Soul Line isn’t a card I would really recommend using in your Main Deck or too many Side Decks, but it could be a fun card to try out once in a while to see if it helps you out at all. There’s not too much else I can think of to say about this card, so I think I’ll just leave it at that. Rating: 5.5/10.
