Dark Maltos's Dueling Dome
Maltos’s Friday deck - Ferocious Fury

May 19, 2006

Greetings one and all, im back again. The GCSE work is piling up now, but still I’m here, delivering to you my Friday decks and Cotd’s every week. Today’s will focus on the far underrated Beast deck.

Beasts , for a long time have been divided into 3 main groups, Beast, Beast Warrior and Winged Beast and generally get frequent support in that order. All 3 have their own powerful effects behind them, but only a select few effects actually unify these monsters as a group. The ‘Beastdown’ deck, as it has cleverly come to be known, certainly packs a powerful punch , and over the years has slowly accumulated a vast variety of different and powerful monsters.

Enraged Battle Ox

Arguably the best Beast oriented card ever printed, this Retrained monster grants any of the 3 above mentioned types of monsters the fairy meteor like effect of piercing, and considering he himself is a beast warrior, he grants himself this overwhelming ability. The beast genre tend to focus on raw power , which is nicely complimented by this mighty Minotaur, especially considering the uprising in miniature monsters. This guy will just un right over them , as well as giving the same benefit to the other monsters in the arsenal.

Manticore of Darkness ;

The high level monster infamous with the beastdown genre . Manticore has the awesome ability of reviving itself when sent to the grave at the cost of a beast, winged beast or beast warrior type monster, which will be abundant in this type of deck, especially since the effect can be combined with a multiple copy of Manticore for a double revival at the cost of one monster from either the field or your hand. Considering Manticore boasts an impressive, although not impregnable 2300 attack, this could prove quite a problem for the opponent, especially when used in combination with Enraged battle ox.

Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys

The Phoenix generally will not work outside of its own deck, but hopefully this deck will be an exception. If this could be pulled off , then it could be quite potent , allowing abusability with the above mentioned cards, as well as being singularly one of the best high level monsters available to us. I hope it works, as the payoff would be incredible.

Berserk Gorilla ;

Arguably the best level 4 attacker available to us right now, and especially deadly in this deck. Berserk Gorilla provides the immense raw power desired from this deck, and is easily a monster staple with virtually no drawbacks.

Exarion Universe ;

Although the effect could be considered somewhat lacking, the stats more than make up for it. Exarion Universe is a great monster statistically , massive defense as a wall, and fairly high attack make him huge when combined with wild Natures release. Watch out.

Chiron the Mage

A very overlooked monster in my opinion, with the ability to turn any spell in your hand into a Mystical Space typhoon that’s harder to negate once per turn. This is like a Breaker that can be re used and is allowed in 3’s, not to mention sporting a great attack power.

Pitch Black War wolf ;

With all the attacking this deck focuses on, I’d almost be a fool not to include at least one of these to provide a little protection from beat down’s most feared thing - Trap cards. Also, 1600 attack is quite good.

Bazoo the Soul Eater :

Bazoo is pretty big right now in decks revolving around removed from play, but lets not forget, he’s also a beast, and with his effect, a very big beast considering his level. Definitely worth the effort as the ultimate Mobius tech.

Nimble Momonga ;

With all the power and attacking going on, it would be easy to forget the defensive part of the beast strategy , and that’s where Nimble comes in. Nimble is probably the beast low level defender out there besides Spirit Reaper , and its pretty easy to see why. The defense behind the offence is always a necessary trait.

Spell and trap wise, a lot has been devoted to the Beast genre specifically, but hardly anything to the Beastdown monsters as a whole.

Wild Natures Release

Singularly the best card out there for this deck, pumping up any of the monsters with its own defense - Deadly with Exarion. It may not work with the Phoenix, but it is still fantastic for a heavy hit from any other monster.

So, this is the deck :

Monsters :

Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys
Manticore of Darkness (x2)

Enraged Battle Ox (x3)
Berserk Gorilla (x3)
Exarion Universe (x2)
Chiron the Mage (x2)
Pitch Black War Wolf
Nimble Momonga (x3)
Bazoo the Soul Eater(x2)
Magician of Faith

Spells ;

Wild Natures Release (x3)
Premature burial
Snatch Steal
Graceful Charity
Scapegoat
Heavy Storm
Mystical Space Typhoon
Giant Trunade
Lightning Vortex
Nobleman of Crossout (x2)
Swords of Revealing Light

Traps ;

Mirror Force
Call of the Haunted
Torrential Tribute
Dust Tornado
Sakurtsu Armour

Now I realise this certain cards like Beast fangs, and beast soul swap could be added, but I don’t really feel like they would suit this build, but overall I think this deck could easily be successful without them.

The main focus of this deck is to hit the opponent fast and hard with the powers of the beasts, and to run over their defences with your Ox’s which will be essential for the succe4ss of this deck.

Well that’s it from me guys, have a good one !
