‘The Broken Duelists’ -Vanity
January 18, 2006
Welcome
readers to the 1st of future articles entitled
‘Broken Duelists’ . These articles will delve deeper
into Yu-Gi-Oh to find out the negative aspects
associated with this card game and how they can
change players.
Vanity is a trait held by most players that has
really caused a stir in the dueling world, and is a
constant problem in any game, as well as everyday
life. It can drive apart friendships, ruin
reputations and isolate people who are weak enough
to be infected by it.
Vanity Defines as :
‘excessive pride in or admiration of one's own
appearance or achievements.’
This is also known as arrogance , cockiness or
over-confidence.
As a duelist climbs the dueling ladder, getting
better and better, and obtaining more and more
experience undoubtedly their confidence will
increase. Unfortunately, as the skill level
increases, so does their dueling Vanity.
Vanity is a major problem as it transforms Duelists
making them obnoxious and intolerable . The more
they win, the worse they become until eventually
they convince themselves that they are invincible,
and can’t even imagine themselves loosing. Their
skill makes them see themselves as superiors to
everyone else, and they tend to really rub it in.
Vane duelists can be spotted a mile away. They are
the type of people who enter a room and immediately
brag about their chances of victory, and sniff out
the ‘noobs’ to roast with their super hyped deck.
They are naturally more loud and although they often
win, for the most part their only friends are the
other vane duelists, which makes a fragile
friendship at best as each of them will be very
insecure of each other , or think that they are
completely on another level to that of their
associates.
Vanity is a weakness. Players may make stupid moves
just because they are so oblivious to the fact that
they can even be defeated.
The delightful thing about vane duelists is when
they lose. A vane duelist, upon receiving a loss
will immediately try a random cheating accusation or
say how weak their deck was. Sometimes even trying
to find a reason for a rematch. Basically there is
no limit to how low they will go just to not admit
defeat. Of course occasionally a vane duelist will
run off crying which besides being utterly
hilarious, is a very memorable moment and a sure
sign they are indeed vane.
You must remember, no matter how good you are ,
eventually you WILL lose , and that’s something that
we must accept.
Vanity is not an exclusive trait. CC & Soul Decks
alike have their fare share of vane duelists. They
find that they lose friends fast as people can’t
stand their arrogant nature.
Sorry for such a short article, but there will be
more to come.
Till next time
