Dark Maltos's Dueling Dome
The Dragon Deck - The Armed Dragon Path

December 20, 2005

Hello readers, welcome to my second article. My last article received a very positive few responses, which I’m loving. As a break from the hard-hitting stuff, im going to do a deck fix for a reader. As a featured writer it is my job to keep writing what you people want to read, so please tell me if you like my articles , and if not, tell me what to change. Ok, over to Chris :

‘’Hi I'm Chris and I am responding to your fist post on pojo. I thought the article was good and realized you were describing what has happened to my deck. I went to the regional and my deck got beat bad. I assume you are familiar with the warrior tool box and structure deck? Well out of 8 matches, 6 of them were warrior decks. All almost EXACTLY the same one. Every warrior deck I faced beat me. The only reason I won 2 matches is one guy didn't show up and the other was a newbie who still used cards like "Two Pronged Attack" "Skull Servant" and "Black Pendant". My dragon deck used to be supreme but now it isn't doing so well. I tried to fix it up but it still is not working to its full potential. I REALLY DON'T want to change strategies. Can you help me out by doing a deck fix?

Main Deck

Fusion Deck: 3

P.S. This is for Advance Format’’

I sure can pal. The problem with this deck is that it’s divided into many separate themes .Firstly, you are using way too many tribute monsters. For a deck, 6 is just too much, we’re gonna have to halve that before we can get anywhere. Tribute monsters are almost always dead-draws, which aint a good thing. On the plus side though, a good tribute monster can really mess up an opposing strategy and deal some major pain to an opponent. I find that this environment supports the use of only 3 tribute monsters without going into Soul Control.

The Red eyes black dragons are not a well supported bunch of monsters at the moment, and they don’t fit the theme of your deck, so I’m afraid, cool as they look, they have to go.

That leaves the Armed Dragons and the Horus Monsters. This creates a dilemma, either Horus or the Armed Dragons. In this situation. both are very powerful dragons, but both have weakness. Armed Dragons promote massive destruction, and really has synergy with cards like ‘Super Rejuvenation‘, where as Horus, in the correct build can be a massive lock down on the opponent, but are still very vulnerable to DDA’s . This is an impossible decision, so I‘m going to take the deck down both routes, making this a two part Article.

The Armed Dragon Deck :

Tribute monsters:
Armed Dragon Lv 7
Armed Dragon Lv 5 (x2)

Now moving onto your low level.

Ok, Roulette Barrel, Horus, Red Eyes Back Chic, and mask of Darkness do not fit this deck, most for obvious reasons. The barrel for starters is a machine with an effect far too random for it to be used. The likely hood of the effect paying off is dismal. The Horus and black chic have no place in the deck anymore, and the mask of darkness can be replaced with an upgrade.

If I were you , I’d add a Spear Dragon, another masked dragon, and another Armed Lv 3. I’m also going to add a Morphing Jar instead of the mask.

Reasons : Spear Dragon has always been a good card to me, the decent atk and trample is a good counter to the likes of Spirit reaper and Scapegoat.

Adding another masked Dragon will make good field presence, as well as allowing for some good combos after im finished with this deck.

With the extra Masked Dragon, you can now get off the handy level up combo to get your LV5 ! Just use with caution as the effect otherwise is difficult to pull off.

And finally, Morphing Jar. This jar will keep your hand full whilst you are using all the combos that this deck allows for. Its essential in this meta with it’s lack of draw power.

That brings your monster total to 15, which is a bit low. I like to use a 20/20 ratio of monsters to spells, but I think you’re a player who likes his spells, so lets have 18 /20 .I’m going to suggest some other cards to add :
Sangan will help the deck out, as well as a card called Spirit Ryu. With all these Dragons and Super Rejuvenation, this is a very good card. Finally , I think you should definitely add a Breaker, he’s a 1st class monster in my books.

This is how your deck should look right now, :

Tribute monsters:
Armed Dragon Lv 7
Armed Dragon Lv 5 (x2)

Lower level :

Spear Dragon
Luster Dragon (x2 )
D.D. Warrior Lady
Breaker the Magical Warrior
Masked Dragon (x3)
Twin Headed Behemoth
Armed Dragon LV 3 (x2)
Morphing Jar
Spirit Reaper
Spirit Ryu
Sangan

Already this is looking a lot better. Moving on : Spell & Traps . I think that 12s/ 10t is completely unbalanced . The Deck is too trap full, one Morbius / Jinzo and it’s pretty much game over.

The 1st thing that im going to do , is cut your traps down to 7, this means the loss of Covering Fire, Negate Attack, and a Compulsory evacuation device. Covering fire is a situational trap that will not help out in this fast paced dueling environment. Negate Attack, though pretty, is not as chainable as your already decked Waboku, and 3 CED’s are a bit over the top. Lets just replace these with the Super Rejuvenations.

On the spell side of things, things aren’t so bad. I think that you need to lose the reloads though, as well as Level Modulation , Metamorphosis and DD capsule. Reloads wont be needed anymore, what with all the Advantage gain I’m putting in, not to mention that they are a loss of advantage themselves anyway. Metamorphosis does not fit the theme, and would be nearly impossible to use one copy successfully anyway. Level modulation is garbage, and DD capsule is too risky.

The cards I will use to replace your losses are Level up!, Scapegoat, Book of Moon , Snatch Steal and Mystical Space Typhoon. The Level up promotes the high level monsters, and the other cards are very powerful.

Trap wise, I’d lose a Magic Drain for a very powerful trap card called Burst Breath. This card has massive destructive power , and is very chainable, masking use of a defense position Spear Dragon and the Lusters. I’d also ditch the CED’s, good though they are for s/t control. I’d add a royal Decree and a Dust Tornado.

So this is how the completed Deck should look :

Tribute monsters:
Armed Dragon Lv 7
Armed Dragon Lv 5 (x2)

Lower level :

Spear Dragon
Luster Dragon (x2 )
D.D. Warrior Lady
Breaker the Magical Warrior
Masked Dragon (x3)
Twin Headed Behemoth
Armed Dragon LV 3 (x2)
Morphing Jar
Spirit Reaper
Spirit Ryu
Sangan

Spell: 15

Level Up!(x2)
Lighting Vortex
Brian Control
Swords of Revealing Light
Book of Moon
Scapegoat
Snatch Steal
Mystical Space Typhoon
Dark Hole
Premature Burial
Heavy Storm
Super Rejuvenation (x3)

Trap: 7

Torrential Tribute
Saksuretsu Armour
Royal Decree
Dust Tornado
Waboku
Call of the Haunted
Burst Breath

Personally, I think it’s a lot better. You were missing a lot of vital cards, but now the deck is more fun , as well as powerful. I know it seems a lot more CC than before, and it really is, but certain cards are widely used because of how good they are. The Decree and Dust Tornado were essential, as a Dragon deck’s greatest fear is trap cards. The monsters are now more focused , and breaker and Sangan are more CC cards which are essential for good decks. The monsters now also combo nicely with the upgraded S/t’.

I hope you enjoyed this article, and found it helpful. I’ll get back to the regular stuff after I’ve finished the Horus Deck Fix. Expect a lot more fire-power, lol.

Till Next Time ~ Dark Maltos
