Firstly,
hello again, and I hope you all had a great
Christmas, and will have an equally wonderful new
year. My last article received a lot of applause ,
I’m pleased to say. Now with the formalities out of
the way, lets embark on another dueling journey
together shall we?
My recent articles, as you may have figured out,
have been aimed at making Duelists use their soul in
favor of their robotic logic, (a road which I have
also taken in various threads on the pojo forums
btw), but now I have come to the realization that
that wont happen unless they get a bit of help , a
little bit of guidance to aid them through the
untidy , littered road of Yu-Gi-Oh .
In this article I will give some advice on what
cards to choose, and how to find your own way to a
state of dueling independence (it’s like Duelist
Nirvana, but with less guitar solo’s and rock music
)
Dueling Independence is when a duelist has enough
skill and experience to become independent of the
dueling meta, and can then allow themselves to go it
alone, using the cards they like instead of the CC.
I’m sure that everyone likes to think ‘Oh yeah, that
sums me up completely’ , but lets think about it for
a second, how many of you are running return from
the different dimension and Bazoo now? Now ask
yourselves, how many of you were running them last
month?
With that fresh in your minds, lets move on . To
achieve a sense of dueling independence, you have to
run cards that aren’t just teched. You have to run
cards that mean something to you , cards that you
want to use because you think they could be useful ,
and not question if you should run them because no
one else does. Following your instincts is all part
of the fun of dueling.
Unfortunately, people have discovered the potential
that having advantage has on influencing the game .
Advantage is a game winning strategy , undeniably ,
and a very important factor in the dueling
environment, but it is not the only factor in the
game, not by any means. Duelists are treating this
as the holy grail, and ditching all other cards in
favour of advantage.
The fact is, advantage is all well and good ,but
what kind of advantage does a card like Jinzo give
you? Morbius can obviously destroy two face downs,
nice but only when he’s summoned, and if the card’s
are a bottomless and a Waboku, you’re pretty
screwed. Jinzo would negate both, AND get his effect
in when revived. To me, that makes Jinzo all the
more worthwhile.
It’s little things like that which make dueling
decks all the more worthwhile. Countering the
metagame is not a bad thing, but you don’t have to
modify your deck completely just to make that
happen. The occasional, well placed card can just
give you the slight edge without being overkill so
that the ONLY deck you can counter is the one that
yours is designed to.
When a duelist becomes independent , they can choose
the cards that they want to use, and play the way
they want to. The best way to do this is to sit down
and look at your card collection, and select all the
cards that you like out of them. Once you have made
your selection, try putting them into themes, or
find ways that they could be used in combination
with each other. That’s how winning deck types are
formed. Once you have decided this, choose the ones
that you think will work best, and then incorporate
the important cards like Pre-Mature burial , or dark
hole to the deck and there you have it, - A Soul
Deck. Cards that you want in, in a deck that you’re
responsible for.
Dueling independence isn’t a skill, it’s a state of
mind.
Sorry for the short article guys, im going through
some writers block. As always, send your mail’s to
toddyhole@aol.com and I will respond. Happy dueling.
