Over
Extension - My Greatest Strength, and my Greatest
weakness
Greetings fans, readers, and stalkers, to name a few
of my ‘cult’ following. It’s been a while huh? Now
you may remember me stating in the Bluffer that
Dueling in the UK would be next for your viewing
pleasure, but alas , im having a hard time with it.
So, I’ve set up a thread on the forums and
hopefully, some of you will deposit some ideas
there. You may also have noticed that I haven’t been
posting as much lately. In the age old tradition of
Pojo featured writers , this is as a result of MEGA
school work being slammed upon me. Now although I
have 2 Course work projects due at the end of the
week for both Geography and Drama , and this may not
be the best time to make such a challenge, I am
going to post a new article every day this week , at
least , I hope I am. So Dark Maltos fans, look
forward to some heavy hitting articles this week ,
and Dark Maltos enemies, tough luck, im here and im
in your face.
Anyway, on with the article. Those that know me, no
that I tend to run myself too thin, which is good
for this article .( it would be even better if I got
hit by cosmic radiation, cos then I’d become super
elastic (anyone who got that joke is sadder than I ,
especially if they laughed)!!!). Moving on, I tend
to over extend myself, depleting my resources to try
and achieve success. To put it bluntly, I burn the
candle at both ends, and play a load of cards in one
turn. Many players would say that that’s a terrible
move , and not to do it, and they may be right. So
lets compare the benefits of Over Extension to the
negatives.;
+’s
Using many cards in one turn, and not playing at all
conservable does have its benefits;
Massive Damage ;
I enjoy swarm, I truly do. Quite often I will get
out a good few monsters and go for a massive attack,
even though I know that in total it will not finish
the opponent off. This is a conservative players
worst nightmare, but I don’t care. I run a Spell
caster deck, with 3 Magical Dimensions. A regular
move I make is to attack with one monster, then in
the battle phase level up and hit em again.
Technically , im down 2 cards, and have lost a load
of advantage, but in my eyes, I just hit them for
2500, and my hand, though almost irreparably damaged
is not lost.
Can ruin a control Strategy :
Believe it or not this can happen. For instance, if
the opponent has got a Don and Spirit Reaper in face
up attack after just hitting you, and then next turn
you blow out your hand , you can hit them for tons
of Damage and not really screw over some o their
plans, since the main purpose of their deck is to
eliminate cards out of your hand. It’s not likely
that they wont be able to cope, its just that their
weak monsters will be the result of a major hurting
on them, which , believe me , is good.
-’s
Some cards are wasted
Often , I will pull out a stupid move like Lightning
vortex on only one monster, just to attack. That was
almost definitely a waste, but if I discarded a card
that wasn’t going to be useful throughout the game
anymore , I don’t care.
Sometimes I randomly Snatch Steal, just to build up
the damage. Occasionally, I’ve stolen a Nimble
Momonga, just to cover the 1000 lp that the opponent
would receive , and to try and negate its effect, by
tributing later. I’ve even attacked with an Exiled
Force, or get this , a CYBER JAR !!! I’ve done some
crazy things, but I regret nothing, after all, its
only a game right?
Loss of Resources
Obviously, the main flaw is that once your turn
ends, no matter how successful you were, the
opponent could still have 6 ways of dealing with the
combo you just pulled off, to your none, or about 2.
Now that is major advantage. There’s a good chance
that the monsters that you just brought out will die
next turn, or at the very least, be used against
you. Obviously, this isn’t good , and may very well
result in your downfall.
The thing is though, just because you’re down 3
cards doesn’t necessarily mean that you are gong to
lose. Over the last few days on the forums , certain
topics have popped up where people are absolutely
convinced that if you are behind on card advantage,
even if you are up majorly on lp, you are guaranteed
to lose. People treat advantage as though it’s the
holy grail, and at the moment definitely think of
Life points as meaningless. I believe this to be
completely absurd. In this game, the whole objective
is to deplete the opposing lp before the opponent
depletes your own, not make the opponent lose all
their cards whilst you have 70 in hand. The game
doesn’t end when your hand goes, the game ends when
you lose your lp. Advantage is a strategy, and
advantage > life points is a myth. Granted you can
afford to lose a few life points, but you can
definitely afford to use a couple of cards in your
hand. A large hand is nothing when you’re staring
down a Morbius, 2 Marauding Captains , and a Bazoo
the Soul eater with United we stand and mega morph
equipped on the opposing turn.
There have been many times when I haven’t had as
many cards and life points, but I’ve pulled back and
won anyway. Over extension is only a problem because
it leaves you open on most occasions, but not all.
If I’ve just done the combo of my life, and I’ve got
one card left, I wont care if its Waboku or
Scapegoat. The fact is, im safe as long as I keep
myself safe.
In conclusion, burning up resources does not
guarantee a win, but it also doesn’t guarantee a
loss. If all depends on the luck fate gives you, and
the way the cards are played.
Well that’s it for me, glad you liked it. ( so many
players didn’t, and to those , that doesn’t apply)
