Greetings one
and all to the second of this weeks 5 articles. As
its Valentines day, I thought it would be
appropriate to discuss ‘love’ and its influence in
the game, it was either that or a corny ‘Mai
Valentine’ character deck, a terrible pun, but one I
thought should be used.
Anyway, I’ll stride on. I’m not the most sentimental
guy in the world , in fact you could say I’m quite
the opposite which will make writing this article
INCREDIBLY difficult, but basically I am very poetic
in the way I observe things. It’s a sad truth and
rather embarrassing, but I spot irony everyday , and
have a distinct sense of poetic justice.
Love is a driving force, and can make us do things
that we really don’t want to and wouldn’t otherwise,
and is often an inspiration, however it can drag us
down. Love has in many cases lead to depression,
loneliness and grief.
But how does all this relate to Yu-Gi-Oh? I’m glad
you asked, because the fact is love relates to
everything, and there’s no escaping it.
Love of the game is the main reason people play,
their pleasure from the thrill from luck, victory
and loss that drives them is immeasurable . Duelists
duel with a passion , and its that passion that
influences how the game is played by us all.
The most passionate duelists of them all are the
ones destined to succeed , as they have the
motivation to continue on because of their deep
burning emotion that forces them to play. A true
duelist is nothing else, and has complete dedication
and faith in their game, their skills and their
deck, and that ‘Heart of the Cards’ will reward them
down the line.
A duelist is nothing without commitment. The
commitment and bonding between the deck and the
player is what determines the outcome of a duel. Of
course , skill is obviously essential, but without
passion and understanding I cant see the point in
dueling.
Every duelist has their favoured cards, cards they
relate to for many reasons, be it the power the card
possesses, the players experiences with that card,
the appreciation of the appearance of the card , or
just a card with sentimental value.
In the anime , each player has a card they relate to
particularly strongly, and fortunately for them,
they were drawn to suit that card. Us on the other
hand relate to cards for different reasons. For
instance, I am not a collection of multi coloured
goats, nor am I a satellite with a giant glowing
green eye, but that doesn’t mean I can’t have
Scapegoat or Cyber Jar as my soul cards. I have been
running both for as long as I can, and will continue
to do so as long as its possible. I have an
connection with these cards, and I simply refuse to
take them out of my deck, no matter what anyone
says, even for a test. Unwise I know, but
understandable considering my history with both.
Such emotional attachments are what I think got us
into the game in the first place. Deeper connections
make this game what it is, and there is a kind of
magic to this game, and its not just the spell
cards.
Yugioh is a game that true duelists will continue to
play long after they should have ‘grown out of it’.
Yugioh isn’t a game like that, and im sure most
players will agree with me on this. Yugioh is a game
that you grow into , it influences you profoundly
into the person that you are. You can never truly
leave this game if your heart is in it. You become
part of the game, and continue its legacy long after
the cards have stopped being printed ( God forbid)
If you have any friends that have left the game, who
you thought were truly talented, or passionate, I
suggest that you have them read this short article.
It may spark the burning fire that used to be their
dueling passion back again.
As always, Toddyhole@aol.com , and I look forward to
your replies. |
