					Maltos's
						Dueling DomeS/t obliteration
 April 12, 2006

The basic idea of a soul
control deck is to use cards like Soul Exchange and Brain
Control in order to summon a tribute of your own and kill a
few things with it. Its an ingenious combo really, you kill
an opposing monster, trade it in for a Super power monster
of your own and then blow up some stuff with it. It’s really
					rather clever isn’t it?
Most soul control decks focus on a distinct group of
monsters in particular which affect the effectiveness of
this revolutionary deck. The Elemental monarchs are a group
of monsters that have been released to us which kill
something when they are first brought into play by tribute
summon. Obviously, when used with this deck type they can be
brutal as regardless of what happens in the duration of the
turn, summoning these monsters almost guarantees an equal
trade off card for card, which of late is what this games
					been all about.

The most often used of these monsters is a creature called
Morbius the Frost Monarch, a common in the Water Structure
deck. This mighty monster has the destructive ability of
being able to destroy two opposing spell or trap card on the
opponent’s side of the field when he’s tribute summoned.
Certainly a powerful effect, and one that’s known as a two
for one in the trade. Removing the opponent’s threats is a
key feature in this game, and any good duelist will tell you
that s/t’s are the most scary and powerful cards in the
whole game. That’s why I’m making this deck, just to create
the deck specifically designed to counter S/t threats.

Not only does Morbius boast this exceptional effect, he also
possesses a mighty 2400 attack points, the standard for a
one tribute monster these days. Also, his final plus is that
he’s allowed in threes . This is the first point I’d like to
address in the article. A powerful monster like this being
allowed in multiples just screams abuse, and that’s what
					we’re going to do.

Before their was Morbius, there was Jinzo, a card I
immediately fell in love with . Jinzo has a similar effect
to Morbius, preventing the activation of trap cards, and the
effects of them as long as he is face up on the field. He
					also boasts 2400 attack.

Back in the days of Chaos, no one would have ran Morbius
over Jinzo, since Jinzo could fuel the Chaos monsters being
Dark. Nowadays though things have changed and people feel
that removing cards is better than negating them, and since
chaos is gone, then there’s no point in Jinzo anymore. I
disagree strongly. Jinzo is a very powerful and dominating
card when in play. Facing a Jinzo is a frustrating and
deadly experience. Not having access to trap cards can
cripple your defences and leave you wide open. Jinzo
certainly has done this both for and to me on countless
occasions, whilst on the field he’s a force to be reckoned
with. So why has this once ‘staple’ card fallen from grace?

To be honest, it’s a question that made me ponder as well.
As far as I was concerned, Jinzo was Morbius’s superior. He
has the same strengths, and virtually the same ability,
except that his ability was always active, allowing for
constant lockdown on the opposing cards. He could even be
used with cards like Call of the Haunted in crazy combo’s
where he didn’t die when Call was destroyed, and chaining
call to the activation of a trap card and getting Jinzo to
negate the trap when the chain resolves. Those were the
days. But my quest for knowledge revealed some unpleasant
					things to me.

The game had changed from its previous state and become
different. Now monsters were dieing all over the place
because of repetitive use of cards like Smashing Ground and
Fissure just to kill whatever was thrown at them. I’ll touch
more on my feelings on this later, but to cut it short,
monsters life spans had been cut short by the change in the
game. It used to be that you could summon your Jinzo and
most likely keep him on the field for a few turns and deal
some hefty damage, but that wasn’t the case any more. Now
monsters were lucky to survive during the opponents next
turn, and as a result Jinzo’s effectiveness was halved. It
seems people chose Morbius over Jinzo just because even if
their Morbius did die next turn they could reap some benefit
since they have destroyed two opposing face downs, but with
Jinzo there was no benefit as once he was gone they were
free to use their traps again.

Another flaw was that Jinzo affects both sides of the field
, and people wanted to use their trap cards too, so
unfortunately Jinzo was dropped. Now however , he’s coming
back. His revival has been long overdue and we’re going to
revive him in this deck as our fourth tribute monster and
the figure head of the deck.

In order for any deck to get off it’s feat, I feel certain
cards must be included , and of the below list most are
forms of monster or s/t removal :

 Breaker the Magical Warrior
 Magician of Faith (x2)
 Sangan

 Heavy Storm
 Mystical Space Typhoon
 Pre mature burial
 Graceful Charity
 Snatch Seal

 Torrential Tribute
 Mirror Force
 Call of the Haunted.

From this small list you can build the foundations of
virtually any deck and it will be backed up with enough
power to keep you steady. As well as these cards, there are
					a certain few that I am accustom to which will be included ;

 Scapegoat
 Swords of Revealing Light
 Lightning Vortex

These three are powerful, but in the case of lightning
vortex especially , not always in every deck. I think this
is unfortunate as Scapegoat provides superb stall potential,
and is essentially a four for one. Swords of Revealing light
has great stall potential too as can often be a life saver.
Lightning Vortex is often looked down upon by other players
as they are often put off by the discard cost, but I believe
that every deck should have a widespread monster removal
card is possible in the form of a spell, but that’s probably
					just me.

Moving on, we shall now try and obtain a decent monster line
					up.

Spell removal in monster for is a trait scarcely seen
outside of Morbius and Breaker, but the removal and negation
we have received has been stupendous.

Certain cards like Tornado Bird and even Green kappa often
fail to make the cut, and unfortunately today is no
exception, still there are a few cards that I think should
					be included.

Chiron the Mage is a very solid monster stats wise, as well
as possessing the unique ability of basically transforming
any spell in your hand into a mystical space typhoon. This
will be infuriating when used in combination with THIS deck
and since Chiron supports aggression as well he makes a
					perfect fit.

Gigantes is one of my all time favourite monsters, and even
though his effect is more situational than others, his raw
power can easily be utilised in this deck with the wide
variety of Earth type monsters im adding, including Chiron
the Mage. Perhaps his s/t destruction effect is less likely
than most, but its not like it will NEVER happen, and even
if it doesn’t he’s still a gorgeous special summon 1900
attack monster supporting both the aggressive theme of the
deck, as well as being free tribute bait.

Another star for this is Mystic Swordsman Level 2, another
Earth but handy as it can wipe out opposing face down
monster which could prove a threat to this deck.

Removal of s/t’s is always nice, but its no use without
removal of monsters. A large enough monster could ruin the
whole deck and prevent its success, so precautions must be
made. DD Warrior Lady, Exiled Force and DD Assailant should
suffice, as these are the best monster removal creatures
available to us right now, as well as two of the above 3
					being the Earth Attribute.

Another monster that I will include in the deck I will
address the 2nd issue with this list. Spirit Reaper. This
ultimately , nearly invincible monster provides the ultimate
form of stall, as well as a control element. By all means
it’s an effective monster to say the very least, and yet it
is still allowed in 3’s. This is an issue covered by Jaelove
exceedingly nicely on Pojo.com, you should really check it
out, but as it stands , this is an undeniably irritating
monster and the perfect stall strategy to compliment this
otherwise aggressive deck, as it cannot be destroyed in
battle. Quite often this card alone has drawn out the game
long enough for its user to gather enough resources to win
the match. Three will be fun.

The final monster I will add to this deck is another Stall
card, Treeborn Frog. This is a very versatile defense which
can be used as tribute bait every turn if nothing else.
Since this deck will be so aggressive it is quite unlikely
that this effect will not activate, so its more than a
					worthwhile addition.

Spell wise we have already covered over half of what should
be entered, but I will cover the cards that should be
					included ;

For the most part, the deck is very spell and trap defended
against as it is, but there is a couple of beneficial
additions that are noteworthy for the deck, Giant Trunade
being one of them. This card provides mass s/t clearance and
combo’s nicely with cards like Premature burial, Swords of
Revealing Light and in some cases Call of the Haunted. Again
					this is allowed in three’s.

Certain cards like Nobleman of Crossout and Smashing ground
should be able to squeeze in also, being perfect for the
fast paced dueling this deck will produce being arguable the
best face down and face up removal cards in the game.
Nobleman can provide great assistance in ridding us of
nuisance cards like the over used trains and searcher
threats, whilst Smashing can take care of an opposing heavy
hitter with very straightforward ease. This alone was the
reason that Jinzo fell from popularity, keeping him on the
field for long periods of time proved to be a burden.

Obviously the deck cannot be without cards like Brain
control to compensate for the high number of Tribute
monsters. That is the soul of the deck.

The trap that I’d most recommend using is Dust Tornado,
again allowed in 3’s. This can simply be a straightforward 1
for one that can nail any opposing card at the end phase.

So that’s it, lets look at the deck :

 Monsters ; 20

 Tributes :

 Jinzo
 Morbius the Frost Monarch (x3)

 Low level ;

 Chiron the Mage (x2)
 Gigantes (x2)
 Spirit Reaper (x3)
 Mystic Swordsman lv 2
 Exiled Force
 DD Warrior lady
 DD Assailant
 Treeborn Frog
 Breaker the Magical Warrior
 Magician of Faith (x2)
 Sangan

 Spells ; 14

 Scapegoat
 Swords of Revealing Light
 Lightning Vortex
 Heavy Storm
 Mystical Space Typhoon
 Pre mature burial
 Graceful Charity
 Snatch Seal
 Brain Control (x3)
 Nobleman of Crossout
 Giant Trunade
 Smashing Ground

 Traps ;

 Dust Tornado (x3)
 Torrential Tribute
 Mirror Force
 Call of the Haunted.

This is the kind of deck that in the right hands could make
the cut. It suits my 20 monster, 14 spell and 6 trap
philosophy perfectly and totals a nice 40 card deck.

The main purpose of the deck is to eliminate the opposing
s/t defences and then hit them hard with the aggressive
monsters you possess. Using cards like Jinzo and Morbius
provides you with some great heavy hitters, Spirit Reaper
and Treeborn frog provide the best stall available , and the
power of Gigantes and destructive might of the warrior
arsenal are sure to hit the opponent where it hurts.

Well guys, that wraps up this article, I hope you enjoyed
					it. As always ;

Have a good one guys !!!
