Dark Maltos's Dueling Dome
Maltos’s Friday deck -Alphabet Madness

April 14, 2006

Way back in magicians force a unique set of monsters was released to us and a very unique genre, union monsters. These creatures possessed some pretty cool effects, joining together in order to make a better, effect given monster in most cases. It was almost like an improved fusion, which was indeed welcomed. There was however, released at this time, a distinct group of monsters which immediately caught every duelists attention. These creatures did look absolutely awesome, and amongst the union monsters they were the stand out superiors, and not only this , they gave the machine deck a significant boost, and recently were given a further boost with the much less powerful VW selection, 2 simply terrible cards which most users of this deck type feel begrudged to use regardless since they are unfortunately part of this alphabet of monsters. Anyway, before I get off track, I’d also like to mention without specifically mentioning the cards themselves , that these creatures have their own version of fusion, and are also of the light variety. So without further ado, tonight Cat, im going to be making…..AN XYZ DECK !!! (cue applause)

Hey guys, welcome to my Friday deck for this week. If you haven’t seen ‘Stars in their eyes’ then that entire last sentence wont make much sense to you, still, lets move on shall we?

The XYZ deck as mentioned, has always been a fan favourite. Back when they were first released I saw them as the new and improved Magnet warriors, well boy was I wrong. These guys outclass the Magnets in every way pretty much, and over the years have accumulated some brutally devastating cards support wise even before you fusion summon the final Cannons.

Heavy Mech Support Platform ;

Now this is something I like. It’s a union, much like the XYZ cards themselves , and machine, beneficial to this deck, but it also gives a significant boost to the monster it is equipped to , as well as acting as a destruction rod for the equipped monster, drawing the monster equipped away from danger whilst this takes the blow. Nice.

Asides from this though, the VWXYZ cards haven’t had much support monster wise, except of course from the lil beauty :

Shinning Angel :

This is basically the best way to get out either W, Y or Z for your union party, as well as providing deck thinning, attack blocking potential. Very nice.

S/t wise, the deck, along with union monsters in general have some outstanding support over their brief time with us:

Frontline Base ;

Sweetness, allowing for the special summon of a union monster once per turn during the main phase is magnificent support, and inexplicably useful. Better than Ultimate offering, a card I’d previously considered running. This really allows for easy unionisation.

Combination Attack :

This is a potent quick play spell that has recently come to my attention, allowing for a union monster to be unequipped and attack again, combo this with XZ for instance and you could deal a hefty 2400, then hit them for 1800 and 1500 in one turn if used correctly, and that’s in one battle phase without any power booster effects like Luminous sparks.

Limiter Remover :

Very handy considering that this is a machine deck.

The trap cards in today’s game can also lend a helping hand to the XYZ arsenal. :

Roll out

A very hand trap that could quite easily tip the duel in your favour if used in opportune moments, im sure you’ll all agree, for instance in combination with everyone’s favourite support platform?

The VWXYZ cards, as im sure you all know resolve around removing themselves from play in order to special summon their fusion forms, and for that reason, using Return from the DD is a given. This not only helps swarm 1 hit kill combos, it also allows for the monsters to be re-fusioned after your battle phase to avoid losing the precious monsters.

Also, Cyber Dragon will also be making its appearance being brilliantly suited, as its light and machine, as well as an all round great card. So I guess this is it ;

Fusion deck ;

VWXYZ fusions (x3)

Monsters ;

Cyber Dragon (x2)
X Head Cannon(x3)
Y Dragon Head (x2)
Z Metal Tank (x2)
V Tiger Jet
W Wing catapult
Shining Angel (x3)
Magician of Faith
Breaker the Magical Warrior
DD Warrior Lady
Sangan
Heavy Mech support Platform(x2)

Spells

Premature burial
Snatch Steal
Mystical Space Typhoon
Heavy Storm
Lightning Vortex
Graceful Charity
Swords of Revealing light
Limiter Remover
Frontline Base (x2)
Combination Attack (x2)

Traps ;

Mirror force
Call of the Haunted
Torrential Tribute
Return from the Different Dimension (x2)
Roll Out (x3)

I thought it necessary to run the fusions in 3 copies each at best, as you never know what may happen, and what you may need. Obviously with this deck, it requires some tweaking and playtsting, but theoretically it should work.

My only problem was the need to run the VW pieces, which I feel slow the deck down. If it were me I’d replace them for a Return from the Different dimension and a Scapegoat, but I thought I’d better stick to theme.

Well that’s it for this Friday, I hope you’ve had a great week. Have a good one guys
