Maltos’s Friday Deck - Tidal Terror
April 7, 2006
Hey guys, im back. My
last article received a lot of positive applause which was
great to see, im glad you liked it. Today marks the first of
the Maltos Friday decks, so I hope you all like this new
feature, and will be looking forward to it each week, so
lets move on with the article shall we?
The water deck , as you all know has always been a fan
favourite, but was not possible until the release of a very
particular card - A legendary ocean. This card has single
handily put these decks on the map, allowing for many
beautiful decks to blossom , all variants of the Water
genre, for instance Mother Grizzly control or the ever
popular Water beatdown deck, utilising cards like
Gigagagagigo to make super charged 2650 attack level 4’s,
take that Cyber Dragon. Now although these decks have been
very successful over the years, they just aren’t my style.
Im more inclined to a particular Sea Serpent that the Water
arsenal has acquired over the years - Levia Dragon Daedalus.
Levia Dragon :
Way back in IOC, Levia dragon made its debut. Back then, the
avid water users were definitely few and far between, but
from the release of this powerful and awesome looking card ,
the water duelist followers greatly increased. Levia dragon
has singularly one of the most powerful effects in the game
considering that currently no one runs cards of a more
chainable nature, which is a definite plus. By sending ALO
(lets just not call it umi) to the grave from your field you
can destroy all cards on the field except Levia, and
considering Levia has a more than impressive 2600 attack for
you to then use that’s not half bad in my opinion. ALO even
makes Levia a level 6 card, how cool is that? For one
tribute you receive an ultimate monster.
Mother Grizzly ;
I’m always for field presence, and this definitely helps.
Mother Grizzly becomes a 1600 attack level 4 with ALO on the
field, which will definitely come into it later. In this
format, a 1600 searcher is definitely a cut above the rest.
Hydrogeddon :
Ooo, yes this is a very beautiful monster, recently released
in Elemental energy. Hydrogeddon’s effect is simple, destroy
a monster with one, special summon another from your deck.
At 1600 a piece, that’s really impressive, as well as deck
thinning. At my last regional these things made short work
of my Petens, but luckily I was holding a Lightning Vortex.
Penguin Soldier :
The 1st of our penguin pals. Penguin soldier way released
WAY back with the Joey starter deck. The effect is both
frustrating, and re usable. At many a tourney this thing has
been a thorn in my side. Technically, it’s a 2 for one, but
they can reuse their monsters obviously. The good thing
about it is that it can return itself and thus reuse its
effect, the bad thing however is that Nobleman of Crossout
was just semi limited….ouch….
Abyss Soldier ;
This is like a tribe infecting virus but so much weaker.
Still its an 1800 (or even more likely 2000) monster with a
more than decent ability. Not to mention with ALO it’ll be a
level 3.…very nice….
Treeborn Frog ;
I was in two minds whether or not to include this, after
all, ALO will be on most of the time, rendering t useless,
but it is water after all, so how could I say no?
Nightmare Penguin ;
A delightfully evil card, with a nice bounce effectm, more
than decent defense ALONE, never mind with ALO, and the
beautiful effect of boosting all Water monsters atk by 200
points !!! It may not sound like much, but believe me it
matters.
Fenrir ;
A surprisingly effective monster, with a minimal cost. Worth
a try in the deck since reducing the opponents options seems
to work so well.
Oddly enough it may seem, im not adding a Morbius. You must
think me mad, but this is not the purpose of the theme.
Levia dragon does more than him for the same summoning cost
when used correctly, so he just isn’t needed, especially in
this set-up, but if you feel that you MUST run him, do by
all means.
ALO goes without saying, but there are many other cards
essential to this deck’s success ;
Salvage ;
Reuse those Penguins I say, and rightly so. This is a 2 for
one that could potentially be a 3 for one with Penguin
soldier.
Big wave small wave :
Now this I like. Very similar to Magical dimension, and
although not as versatile, it could be even more deadly
depending on the circumstances. A definite must, and the
soul of the deck itself with aLevia dragon.
Trap wise there is little I’d recommend using. Tornado wall
though effective when used is very prone to s/t removal, and
not all that worth it . There is one trap that you all saw
coming though :
Gravity bind :
With all these pumped level 4’s, I’d be a fool not to run
one. It stall against most opposing attacks without negating
you own. The best thing is that Levia will not be hindered
by it as it can remove it with its own effect, its really
win - win.
So here’s the final result, prepare yourself for some TIDAL
TERROR :
Tributes :
Levia dragon Daedalus (x3)
Monsters
Mother Grizzly (x2)
Hydrogeddon (x3)
Abyss Soldier (x2)
Penguin Soldier (x2)
Nightmare Penguin (x3)
Treeborn Frog
Fenrir (x2)
Magician of Faith (x2)
Spells :
A legendary ocean (x3)
Big Wave Small wave (x2)
Salvage (x2)
Nobleman of Crossout
Lightning Vortex
Scapegoat
Graceful Charity
Heavy Storm
Mystical Space Typhoon
Snatch Steal
Premature burial
Traps :
Mirror Force
Torrential Tribute
Call of the Haunted
Gravity Bind (x2)
The deck in itself is very powerful, and pulling off the
Levia combo wont always be necessary for the win condition,
but the big wave small wave will really help this
eventuality. There is a lack or certain cards like breaker,
but hopefully Levia dragon can be used to the same means,
but if it cant, there’s always cards that can be
substituted. The Magician of Faith are there to help re use
ALO repeatedly, which will definitely pick the deck up a
lot.
This deck is up there with the best in the right hands, and
using it will really put water decks on the map.
Well that’s it for my first deck of the week, I hope you
liked it as much as I did. As always, Toddyhole@aol.com for
your thoughts and feelings, and I hope to be seeing from you
soon.
Have a good one guys !!!
