Dark Paladin's Yu-Gi-Oh! Dimension
Pharoh's Servant--You got SERVED
8.02.05
Hello again to Pojo and Yugioh fans one and all!
I will again apologize for the crappy pun in the title, I
hope they get better, but no promises. Today brings me to
the 4th installment of my set reviews.
We have now reached some of what people would consider the
"Good Stuff."
Phaorh's Servant
As always, we start with the Secret Rares
Jinzo
Imperial Order
Jinzo was highly anticipated upon release and was (and
continues to be) thrown into about every deck it possibly
can. It is oftne the ONLY Machine found in decks.
Rating: 5/5 then and now, I believe is justified
Imperial Order was easily at least as anticipated, and it is
currently on the Banned List in Advanced Format. This card
could spell trouble and was used by almost as many people
who used Jinzo.
Rating: 5/5 then and now, and this IS justified.
Secret Rare Ratings:
Secret Rare Average (Then): 5/5
Secret Rare Average (Now): 5/5
Average: 5/5
PSV Ultra Rares:
Chain Destruction
Call of the Haunted
Ceasefire
Premature Burial
Buster Blader
The Legnedary Fisherman
Thousand Eye Restrict
Goblin Attack Force
The Fiend Megacyber
Beast of Talwar
Just real quickly, Chain Destruction, The Fiend Megacyber,
and Beast of Talwar get 1/5 for both forms. Sorry, but there
isn't anything special about them.
Call of the Haunted/Premature Burial: I grouped these
because the effects are the same, just one is a trap, one
has an 800 lp cost. Both were welcome additions, even with
Monster Reborn. MR is banned currently, so these are deck
staples.
Rating (Then): 4.5/5
Rating (Now): 5.0/5
Ceasefire is an excellent trap I believe to be underrated,
despite it IS restricted and it can be a game ending card,
for you or the opponent.
Rating: 4/5 then and now
Buster Blader is a decent two tribute monster despite those
monsters are NOT popular or usually worth using. It could
take out BEWD and others upon it's release though.
Rating: 2.5/5 then and now
The Legendary Fisherman long story short is meant for A
Legendary Ocean deck only where it gets a 4.5/5
Thousand Eye Restrict is so powerful and morphed from goats
one too many times. I wish I saw more of him simply for what
he can do. This guy can be trouble.
Rating: 3.5/5 then and now
Goblin Attack Force was great at the time because we were
still in the days of 1800 Level 4 monsters being beatsticks.
He is still in several CCWC decks today.
Rating (then): 5.0/5 Not as good as Jinzo or IO, but right
up there.
Rating (now): 4.5/5
Ultra Rare Average (Then): 3.15/5
Ultra Rare Average (Now): 3.25/5
Ultra Rare Average: 3.20/5
PSV Super Rares:
Parasite Paracide
Graverobber
Dust Tornado
Mirror Wall
Backup Soldier
Magical Hats
Nobleman of Crossout
Fairy Meteor Crush
Limiter Removal
Gearfried the Iron Knight
Here's the deal here: Mirror Wall, Graverobber, Magical
Hats, and Parasite Paracide get 1/5, I'm sorry.
Dust Tornado was a welcome addition to the destruction of
spell and traps.
Used very widely today since we only have 1 MST instead of
the
3 in this day.
Rating (Then): 3.5/5
Rating (Now): 5.0/5 It's this, Heavy Storm, Breaker, and 1
MST
Backup Soldier used only in Exodia then and now, but it can
be useful to help replenish some wimpy resources in Weenie
Rush if you want.
Exodia: 4.5/5 both forms
Nobleman of Crosscut was run in twos by anyone with ANY
experience upon release. It's making a vengeful comeback
today too.
Rating (then): 4.0/5
Rating (now): 4.5/5
Fairy Meteor Crush is one of my favorite spells since I
absolutely adore trample. Not quite as good as Big Bang Shot
in my opinion.
Rating: 3.0/5 both formats
Limiter Removal is Machine tech, and for good reason. It can
be disastorous, deadly trouble.
Rating: 4.5/5 both formats (machine only)
Gearfried the Iron Knight was King for a little bit amongst
the other 1800 level 4 monsters at the time. Even being a
Warrior, he's not to Kingly now being EARTH which isn't
Chaos friendly.
Rating (then): 4.0/5
Rating (now): 2.0/5
Super Rare Average (then): 2.75/5
Super Rare Average (now): 2.70/5
Super Rare Average: 2.72/5
Rares worth mentioning:
Prohibition is a decent card, but being permanent has a bit
of a downfall.
Not allowing a card to be played is cool though.
3.0/5 both formats
Morphing Jar #2 can be quite deadly as well, but it can be
one of those card that can give you OR the opponent the
advantage. Be careful.
4.0/5 both formats
Dimensionhole is a nifty magic card that can remove one of
your monsters to save or one of your opponents to allow a
strike on them. A fun and annoying card to use.
3.0/5 both forrmats
Gravity Bind is in use now as it was then as a staple in
your stall decks.
A very annoying trap and it you can't deal with it, it will
be a problem.
4.5/5 Stall in both formats
3.75/5 Rare Average
Pharoh's Servant Set Rating: (Then): 3.66/5
Pharoh's Servant Set Rating: (Now): 3.55/5
Pharoh's Servant Set Rating Average: 3.60/5 = B+
As a reference, here is the grading scale as to where the
score lands the set grade wise.
4.6-5.0 = A
4.1-4.5 = A-
3.6-4.0 = B+
3.1-3.5 = B-
2.6-3.0 = C+
2.1-2.5 = C-
1.6-2.0 = D+
1.1-1.5 = D-
1.0 or lower = uh-oh
On a quick Recap
Pharoh's Servant set: 3.60/5 = B+
Legend of BEWD set: 2.10/5 = C-
Metal Raiders set: 2.60/5 = C+
Magic Rulers set: 2.70/5 = C+
Next time, we'll be reviewing Labyrinth of Nightmare, and I
can't wait.
Please feel free to e-mail me about anythin @ tsearcy@lssu.edu
Until next time, you stay classy, Planet Earth :)
