Dark Paladin's Yu-Gi-Oh! Dimension
Constructing the Sacred Phoenix deck
04.06.07

Hello again to Pojo and Yugioh fans one and all! Today, I've decided to continue my deck building series with Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys.

Can this deck be competitive in todays meta? We're going to find out.

Obviously, the purpose of this deck is to get Sacred Phoenix on the field and keep him there. If you can do that, you are definately going to be in command of the duel. Sacred Phoenix is strong, but your whole strategy can go down if she is destroyed or removed from play.

Now, this deck, like the Dark Paladin deck I built is a bit bigger than usual, here we are at 44 cards, but that still is just within the realm. If your deck is much bigger than 44 or 45 cards, you may start having problems.

For your tribute monsters, it is pretty straight forward. Sacred Phoenix is included in a pair, as three is overkill, and a second gives you a better chance of drawing and playing it. I believe Jinzo was also necessary in this deck. Airknight doesn't belong necessarily, but it is a good draw option to help the deck speed up a bit.

As for non-tribute, all the powerful monsters are Winged-Beast, Beast, or Beast-Warrior to help combo with Enraged Battle-Ox for some extra damage. Beserk Gorilla, Vorse Raider, and Mad Dog of Darkness all add power and some beatdown. Chiron the Mage is for power and destruction, while Sangan can search out the rest of the monsters. Hand of Nephthys is for easier summoning of the Phoenix, and the rest are obvious.

Magic cards are pretty good also. It's a nice balance of drawing, resource replenishment, and destruction or offensive and defenseive protection.

The Traps are mainly for protection, again with 3x Solemn Judgement, Divine Wrath, Mirror Force, and Ring of Destruction. Torrential Tribute will help and Icarus Attack can be well done with Sacred Phoenix.

The only real problem is still Sacred Phoenix vs. Monarchs. Monarchs and Sacred Phoenix both have 2400 attack. If someone suicides you, you don't get to revive you Sacred Phoenix which sucks, but we are in a fairly heavy destruction meta currently.

Can this deck hold its own? Certainly, but with Monarchs, Gadgets, Demise, and Diamond Dude Turbo, it sadly is probably just hovering below the top, at Tier 1.5 or so. Well, that does it for today, please as always feel free to e-mail me with anything @ tsearcy@lssu.edu

I'm not sure what I'm going to build next, as I said, I'd like to build a Blue Eyes deck. Your ideas are always welcome. Also, in about a couple of weeks, I've got finals coming, so I'll probably be a ghost that week. However, summer is nearly here, and that's when I'm able to divert the most of my time to you loyal fans and readers!

You stay classy, Planet Earth :)

~Dark Paladin~
