Clouds Are People Too!

December 18, 2007

That One Looks Like a Rabbit

Have you ever looked at the sky and wondered whether there will be any Yu-Gi-Oh! cards based on clouds. I know I have. Well my wish has come true with the new cloudian monsters from Gladiator's Assault. I have to say that I saw the cloudians as little more than shock absorbers for the good cards in GLAS. Then I really looked at Cloudian-Turbulence. Wow. There was no limit on how many times you could use his effect. Now what kind of deck could use cards that require many, many monsters on the field at the same time? I had no answer to that until I was studying for my Spanish final two hours ago. You use big honkin' monsters with godly effects. So this is what I came up with.

Cumulo-Kick-Your-Butt-Us

Monsters-18
3x Light and Darkness Dragon
3x Gilford the Lightning
1x Dark Magician of Chaos

3x Cloudian-Turbulence
2x Cloudian-Cirrostratus
2x Mother Grizzly
1x Marshmallon
1x Spirit Reaper
1x Sangan
1x Breaker the Magical Warrior

Spells-15
3x Trade-In
2x Creature Swap
2x Cloudian Squall
2x Fog Control
2x Summon Cloud
1x Heavy Storm
1x Mystical Space Typhoon
1x Premature Burial
1x Brain Control

Traps-9

3x Solemn Judgement
3x Forced Back
1x Mirror Force
1x Torrential Tribute
1x Call of the Haunted

Descend From the Heavens

Now this deck is rather portly at 42 cards, but nothing the deck can't work around. You need a lot of cards in order to include everything that you need. Plus Fili Luna had a 45 card deck and won a Shonen Jump Championship. Basically the idea is to summon as many Smoke Balls as possible and then tribute them off for large two tribute monsters. A key misplay with cloudians is to clog your field up with monsters, even in this deck that is a bad idea, as you may need to summon Breaker instead of Gilford. You could also adapt the deck to Monarch use, but I found that they were often not worth the time and resources that you would put into summoning them. Light and Darkness Dragon is a key player, as he will protect your cloudians as well as your other monsters from counter attack. But beware, you will not be able to activate your counter traps unless your dragon negates the effect of the card you are negating. I'm not a rule junkie, so someone please check on that for me.

Cloudians are certainly an interesting deck type and deserve far more than the attention that they have gotten over the past couple of weeks. I came up with this idea out of about 10 other potential ones. If you have a cloudian deck that you want me to comment on, or anything else for that matter, please email me at raptor1k@hotmail.com

I am sorry for the short article, but i am in the middle of finals, and I am working on 2 other Yu-Gi-Oh! writing projects as well as studying and keeping in shape and trying to play the game as much as possible to see where I went wrong at the SJC San Mateo. This article should come out within the same time frame as my other two, so you may get lucky and have a triple dose of me in one day.

Thanks for reading!
