Blow Up the Universe!

July 30, 2007

Demise is Thinking a Little Too Small...

Hmm, who remembers the old Chaos days? I do. It was like waiting for a hurricane of BLS and CED to come down upon my lowly Warrior OTK. Well thank goodness they were banned! Wait, they reprinted a BETTER version of Chaos Emperor Dragon, THE most broken card in existence? And NO ONE on a big tournament level has taken advantage of this?

Enter Sky Scourge Norleras, the guy who doesn't just blow up the world, he nukes the Universe!

Sky Scourge Norleras

Dark-Fiend

Level 8

2400 attack 1500 defense

This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card can only be Special Summoned by removing one Light-Fairy type monster and three Dark-Fiend type monsters in your Graveyard. You can pay 1000 Lifepoints to send all cards on the Field and in both players hand's to the Graveyard. Then, draw one card.

With an effect this powerful, we have to make use of this in a deck, and Joe Powell from my local has given me the idea with which to combo it.

The Best of Both Worlds...

The Monsters

The object of this deck is to either get Demise or Norleras off as quickly as possible and then proceed to beat down the opponent by getting superior topdecks. Most of the deck is a standard Demise OTK, only with fiends instead of bugs. And before you ask, yes Senju and Manju are both Light Fairies. Sniper Hunter is one of the best cards this format and is a Dark Fiend. He can even discard fodder for Norleras. Skelengel is a Light Fairy and nets you a draw. That is pretty much the monster lineup, as Sangan is an auto in.

The Spells

I had problems with the Spell lineup, as the two decks use very different spells. However, the point of Norleras is just to wipe the field, whereas Demise sticks around. With this in mind I chose the spells. Only a few cards are out of the ordinary here, with Dimension Fusion being the oddest choice. It is there to bring back all those fiends and fairies for a last ditch smack for game. Messenger of Peace and Swords of Revealing Light are great stall cards while you set up your devastating combos. Premature Burial allows revival of the Demise cards as well as the Normal Fiends.

The Traps

This was pretty easy. Mirror Force stops aggression and is amazing when you have a bad opening hand. Torrential has no drawback here, as you will just remove the monsters in the grave for Norleras, as well as it being a powerful field clearing tool in and of itself. Threatening Roar is there to stop aggression as well as to put a little more on the back row to give your opponent pause before moving into the battle phase.

Snags in the Plan

This deck works very well in the mid to late game, when you have the combo pieces in place. However this deck is terrible at the early game. It has pretty poor opening plays, with a Ritual Searcher or Skelengel being best. You can also topdeck into Demise when looking for Norleras or vice versa. Snipe Hunter helps to mitigate this problem as well as fuel the grave for Norleras. It can be pretty slow, but since Demise is so fast, it should balance out. If not, try some cards switches. Most of these are judgement calls from my end, so play what works for you.

Customizable Destruction

As with most of my decks, this one is very customizable. You can use a full blown RFtDD strategy using Dark Necrofear, or even take out Demise altogether. Card Trooper is a good bet with this deck, as Norleras and Demise both trigger it's effect, and cards in the grave are good for Norleras. Majestic Mech Ohka, Mist Archfiend and Giant Orc can be put together to create an aggro themed deck. You can also use A feather of the Phoenix to put cards that you need back on top of your deck as well as discarding for Norleras fodder. The Choice Is Yours!
