Kuriboh Kung-Fu Two!

August 4, 2008

Who's a Cute Little Fluff Ball?

Kuriboh is! Due to the overwhelming response to my Kuriboh deck, I decided to make another. Yay! Unlike the last one, I decided to make this one a little more conventional. Of course conventional and Kuriboh are not really compatible. The end result is a deck that I think people will enjoy and hopefully play.

Kuriboh Kung-Fu Two!

Monsters-22

3x Caius the Shadow Monarch
3x Destiny Hero Plasma
2x Prime Material Dragon

3x Kuriboh
3x Winged Kuriboh
3x Gravekeeper's Spy
1x Gravekeeper's Guard
1x Elemental Hero Stratos
1x Sangan
1x Spirit Reaper
1x Marshmallon

Spells-13

3x Flute of Summoning Kuriboh
2x Allure of Darkness
2x Soul Exchange
1x Mystical Space Typhoon
1x Heavy Storm
1x Mystical Space Typhoon
1x Brain Control
1x Premature Burial
1x Monster Reborn
1x Scapegoat

Traps

3x Solemn Judgment
1x Mirror Force
1x Torrential Tribute
1x Crush Card Virus

HIYAAAHHH!

Wow, Kuriboh can be very aggressive. The deck basically works on summoning a hoard of disrupting monsters. Caius removes a card from play and can even burn for the win. Not to mention it is a DARK and a powerful creature. Prime Material Dragon stops destruction effects as well as being hella cool and stopping Caius' burn effect when used against you. The lynchpin is of course Elemental Hero Stratos and Destiny Hero Plamsa. Stratos is there solely to search out Plasma, who is so disruptive it's not even funny. You can even easily get Plasma out, as Flute, Spy, Soul Exchange, Reaper and Marshy all make sure that you have some guys to tribute for Plasma's effect. A standard Gladiator Beast deck or Dark Armed Dragon deck needs their monster effects in order to be effective. Plasma is so easily summoned it is ridiculous!

The Kuribohs do more than just be tributed too. They block attacks, keeping an explosive win for any deck out of the cards. The stalling should even force Lightsworn into a deckout, which is important as they are everywhere in the Bay Area. Sangan does his searching thing as well as being CCV fodder with Kuriboh and Guard. Spirit Reaper and Marshy can stall as well as being tributeable for any effect.

The spells are pretty much a standard lineup. Flute of Summoning Kuriboh, well summons Kuriboh's to where you need them, either for defense, blocking damage or for tribute. Allure of Darkness is the deck's only draw power, but between Spy, flute and Stratos, the deck goes pretty quick. Soul Exchange does what it does by tributing monsters. The rest is pretty much what you would find in any deck.

The traps are even more standard. Solemn Negates anything that you don't like, Torrential Tribute and Mirror Force destroy any cards you don't like and Crush Card Virus wins games.

I Train In the Form of the Fluffball!

Your ideal opening play is either to set Spy or Winged Kuriboh and to have Solemn Judgment set or Flute of Summoning Kuriboh set. You can also start off with Stratos, as any opening involving him is nice. The next series of plays is kind of open. You can play Flute and sacrifice for a Monarch or Plasma or just turtle for a while. The deck should play a little aggressively defensive, as both Kuriboh and Gravekeeper's Spy do well in that regard.

Against Gladiators this deck is  meh at best. It does stop Gyzarus and Murmillo with Prime Material, and bigger monsters with Crush Card Virus, but the combos that Gladiators can pull off are of the chain. Solemn is kind of just a temporary reprieve, but cold give you the opening you need. Of course Plasma just wrecks face. I got owned about 5 times by Plasma on my Gladiators. Against this deck, the earlier you get Plasma out, the better your chances of winning. Of course Caius does do well here, removing Gladiators and being a beastly beaststick, it is the small guys that get me worried. Kuriboh doesn't stop a tag out for Gladiators and neither does Winged Kuriboh. Spy, Marshmallon and Reaper are all vulnerable especially to Murmillo. Against these guys all I can say is be as Aggro as you can without losing the game.

Against Lightsworn this deck is gold. Stalling with Kuriboh is gold, as it forces them to mill out even faster. Even a chained Flute to Judgment Dragon can ruin their whole day, as if you have a Winged Kuriboh handy, JD kills it and they lose damage for the turn. Honest is almost useless, as you will simply make sure that they don't have a monster on the field to use it with. Celestis is much the same as JD. Lumina and Wulf are the problem spots, as they swarm, and we want our monsters alive for tribute. Marshy and Reaper make them unwelcome. As for Lyla? What is she going to target?! You have almost no traps, and what you do have is pretty chainable. Necro Gardna is a it of a problem, but this deck is a master at stalling, so Necro ends up being a speedbump.

Against Dark Armed Dragon, well, it depends on the build. The turbo deck would not like this, as with Lightsworn, they could deck out easy. The D-Hero build is better, but Plasma just owns faces in this matchup, as ALL of their monsters that are broken become useless, and they have no outs to it. Prime Material works well here as well, and the indestructible monsters stall out until you get what you need. This is not going to be a great matchup, as it is a lot faster than this one. That is the main Achilles heal, an overwhelming offensive that can draw and easily replace lost cards.

That is all from me for a while, I am off to Canada for a while, so I wanted to get in one last article before I left. You can email me at raptor1k@hotmail.com and I will get back to you asap. Don't forget I have a contest going on in the Gossip section of the forums. Please read the rules before you enter though :)

Thanx for reading!
