The Best of Both Worlds
September 13, 2008
Resistance is Futile
Well, I was thinking about our game. Then it occurred to me
that the monsters with the most supported attribute happen
to be of the DARK type. Then, the most supported monster
type is warrior. So a DARK Warrior deck should have the most
support, right? Then I went and made a list of all of the
decent DARK Warrior monsters out there. I eliminated many of
the cards, like the Dark Scorpions, because of low stats. I
also didn't want to go D-Hero, as I would run out of space
really quick if I wanted to include a complete D-Hero suite
of cards.
I was also curious about the Treeborn Frog-like effect of
D.D. Scout Plane. It doesn't mind getting hit by D.D.Crow,
as it will just come back. Any card that can play around the
Crow is going to have a decided advantage over deck playing
them, as a 100 ATK and DEF Winged Beast is going to be a
dead card a lot of the time if your opponent can't use it. I
also decided to play around Bottomless Trap Hole, as it
would destroy most decks. So I decided that a D.D. Scout
Plane and Strike Ninja deck would be rather cool to play
around with. This is the first incarnation of this deck.
The Best of Both Worlds

3x Dark Grepher
3x Strike Ninja

3x Enemy Controller
3x Reinforcements of the Army
1x Shrink
1x Heavy Storm

Traps
3x Solemn Judgment
1x Bottomless Trap Hole
1x Crush Card Virus
1x Torrential Tribute
They've Adapted!
The deck is made to abuse D.D. Scout Plane, plain and
simple. We have the two best DARK one tribute monsters at 3
each so that the Plane can be tributed for something that is
worthwhile. We also have Crush Card Virus, Armageddon Knight
and Dark Grepher to get it to the graveyard. I was going to
use Junk Synchron, as we would have more Scout Plane tricks,
but it is a level 3, which is useless in a deck with 4 and 6
monsters.
The Scout Plane can also be used as a blocker as well as
tribute for Enemy Controller, getting an opponent's monster
in order to combine with Krebons to get a powerful Sychro
monster to the field. The monsters also have relatively high
ATK, not enough to get over Gladiators, but standard for a
DARK style deck. Strike Ninja is the Ace for this deck. He
removes the Scout Plane for recursion antics as well as
dodging opposing Armageddon Monsters (Dark Armed Dragon,
Gladiator Beast Gyzarus, Judgment Dragon). His 1700 ATK can
even hold it's own against any of the Gladiators except for
Laquari.
I chose not to include Dark Armed Dragon or even Dark
Creator due to the huge expense required in order to acquire
these cards. You can modify it to however you see fit, but I
do think that if you have some DAD's or TDC's lying around,
you should put this together and try it out.
When PTDN first came out, people at my local also
experimented with a DARK Machine build, using Overload
Fusion and Future Fusion to abuse Chimeratech Overdagon as
well as the new DARK cards and D.D. Scout Plane. That is a
viable route for the deck, as there are many great DARK
Machines, like Blowback Dragon and Jinzo.
This is just a preliminary deck, but I hope it inspires you
to look beyond the cookie cutter. I am going to end this
article so I can go to sleep. My next one will be longer and
will be all about preparing for Regional Tournaments in my
Getting Back In the Game Series. Send all queries to

Thanx for reading!
