Just Beastly
March 19, 2009
You've Always Been An Animal, I Just Gave You Claws!
Well, the Beast deck has been unleashed. Yup, I mean it.
Baboon, Manticore and Rescue Cat have been proven tournament
worthy even without some of the OCG cards that make them
great. Now if only we could find a theme that could tie them
all together. Beasts do not have very much support, with
most of it being useless like Beast Soul Swap. However, a
few cards exist that can really help us. Ryko and Wulf are
both Beast and Beast-Warrior so that we can abuse them with
Manticore's effect. Wait I got it! Lightsworn Beasts!
Let Out Your Inner Beast
Monsters-22
3x Manticore of Darkness
1x Chaos Sorceror
1x Behemoth, the King of All Animals
3x Wulf, Lightsworn Beast
3x Lumina, Lightsworn Summoner
3x Mad Dog of Darkness
2x Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter
2x Neo Spacien Dark Panther
1x Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress
1x Plaguspreader Zombie
1x Sangan
1x D.D. Crow
Spells-12
3x Solar Recharge
2x Foolish Burial
1x Card of Safe Return
1x Brain Control
1x Monster Reborn
1x Heavy Storm
1x Mystical Space Typhoon
1x Smashing Ground
1x Fissure
Traps-6
3x Solemn Judgment
1x Mirror Force
1x Torrential tribute
1x Crush Card Virus
You Can't Slay This Beast
I have to say, the idea was not my own. The deck idea
was given to me by someone experimenting with it at my
local. He ran a far more aggro version, using Aurkus,
Lightsworn Druid as well as Skill Drain to prevent a
counter-attack. The idea os to produce a tone of high ATK
monsters that simply won't go away. Manticor is the best at
that, as you can trade an End Phase milled Wulf, or an
in-hand Ryko or Panther for a 2300 behemoth that just won't
stay dead.
You can combine this with Card of Safe Return for massive
advantage with a pair of Manticores as well as with Wulf. As
there are tons of DARK and LIGHT monsters, it was only
natural to include the overpowered Chaos Sorceror. What is
amazing in this deck is Dark Panther. He cannot shine quite
yet without his partner in crime X-Saber Airbellun, but
copying a DAD, Goyo Guardian, Stardust Dragon or Judgment
Dragon is beyond awesome. Add to the fact that you can
tribute him for CCV and we have a winner for the deck.
The Lightsworn monsters are mostly for dumping with Solar
Recharge, but can also be used to swarm the field. Wulf is
the key card here, being dumped with Recharge, Foolish or by
a Lightsworn effect and beating face. There is little an
opponent can do in the face of a stream of 2100, 2300 and
1900 ATK beaters, and Synchro SUmmoning a bigger monster is
just about it. That is where Smashing Ground and Fissure
come in to clear the way.
The deck can also use a gerat many more awesome cards that I
just couldn't fit in without losing coherence with the
theme. Here is a list for all you innovators out there.
Aurkus, Lightsworn Druid
Rescue Cat
X-Saber Airbellun
Allure of Darkness
Krebons
Green Baboon, Defender of the Forest
Burden of the Mighty
Big March of All the Animals
There are probably even more cards out there that I missed,
so feel free to test them out and let me know how they
worked. As of right now, this build is destroying my
Blackwing deck. I doubt that it will continue to do so once
RGBT is released, but it is certainly exciting that such an
unknown deck is doing so well against one of the top decks
in Japan.
Sorry for the short article, but Finals call. You can email
me at
raptor1k@hotmail.com or contact me on the boards for
anything YGO related. Just please put YGO in the title so i
don't miss your letter.
Thanx for reading!
