JAELOVE's Smooth Journey

Article 12: Part Four: The Chaos Deck Deconstructed?

8.24.04  This is the last article in my laborious effort to provide counters to the reigning terror of the metagame, Chaos. The first section outlined the problem, the second and third provided competitive means of challenging the defined issue at hand. This last article will provide the coup de grace.

I now present suggestions for those who already have decks in place that struggle with Chaos users in their area. The cards I reveal in these pages are intended to be both main-decked and side-decked. They should do wonders in combating the menace of the two Envoys.

TEN NOTABLE ANTI-CHAOS MONSTERS FOR CONSIDERATION

Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer (LON Super Rare)

The number one tool for anti-chaos support. This 1800 attack monster will prevent any graveyard removal. While he is on the field, Chaos will not be brought forth. In addition, his second effect allows him to remove up to two monsters from your opponent's graveyard, limiting their recursion opportunities.

Morphing Jar #2 (PSV Rare)

A flip effect, this card will instantly thin your opponent's deck, and force him to end his battle phase. By taking a look at what cards are destroyed, you'll be able to better foresee his possible options. With most decks running 15-16 monsters, expect to see at least 4-5 cards discarded with a solid use of your Morphing Jar 2's.

D.D Warrior Lady (DCR Super Rare)

Don't simply dismiss this card as a "light monster." Your D.D Warrior Ladies will add another layer of monster removal. You can take out Mystic Tomatos, Spirit Reapers, Witches, and Sangans..

Magical Scientist (MFC Common)

Of course Chaos decks love their effect monsters such as Magician of Faith, Witch of the Black Forest, Sangan, and such. Magical Scientist will eliminate them in a hurry.

Spirit Reaper (PGD Rare)

Spirit Reaper will provide both a threat of hand disruption and a defensive wall.

Don Zaloog (PGD Ultra Rare)

Hand disruption is a very effective counter against Chaos; without a hand, they can often be helpless indeed.

Sinister Serpent (SDD Secret Rare)

This card is a must. He guards against Chaos Emperor Dragon by providing ammunition during the top-deck wars caused by the big burn.

Tribe-Infecting Virus (MFC Super Rare)

Once they hit the field, this will be one of your few monster options to get rid of them.

Morphing Jar (TP 2 Ultra Rare)

An expensive option, definitely, but this will also simultaneously guard versus Chaos Control builds as well.

D.D Crazy Beast (MFC Rare)

A card to be used in the sidedeck. He can remove scientists, witch, sangan, shining angels, mystic tomatos, and other threats quite easily.

TEN NOTABLE SPELLS/TRAPS FOR CONSIDERATION

The Forceful Sentry (MRL Ultra Rare)

Pack the pre-negators into your side-deck (if not main-decked already). They're excellent cards that work against Chaos or anything else your opponent has to offer.

Delinquent Duo (MRL Ultra Rare)

My momma always said, "break their hand to break the game open."

Confiscation (MRL Super Rare)

You can honestly never have too much pre-negation versus the Chaos scourge.

Nobleman of Crossout (PSV Super Rare)

Take out their lights and darks relatively painlessly.

Torrential Tribute (LON Ultra Rare)

Great option to wipe the monsters clean off the field..

Drop Off (PGD Secret Rare)

This can backfire, but usually can help.

Waboku (SDY Common)

This will definitely save your life points in key situations.

Magic Cylinder (LON Secret Rare)

Make them pay for attacking 3000 life points.

Royal Oppression (LOD Rare)

Negate all special summons.

Solemn Judgment (MRD Ultra Rare)

A great option, but costly. Don't overdo it!

And there you have it. Twenty cards aimed to put the hurting on Chaos. So if you find yourself struggling with a Chaos user in your area, take a look at this article and see how many counters you're using! I'm sure each one of these cards will help. Here's a sample deck devoted solely toward stopping Chaos decks.

Deck Count: 40

Monsters: 15

3 Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer
2 D.D Warrior Lady
1 Magical Scientist
1 Breaker the Magical Warrior
1 Yata-Garasu
1 Witch of the Black Forest
1 Sangan
1 Sinister Serpent
1 Tribe-Infecting Virus
2 Morphing Jar #2
1 Spirit Reaper

Spells: 17

1 Raigeki
1 Dark Hole
1 Monster Reborn
1 Pot of Greed
1 Graceful Charity
1 Harpie's Feather Duster
1 Confiscation
1 The Forceful Sentry
1 Delinquent Duo
3 Mystical Space Typhoon
1 Mirage of Nightmare
2 Nobleman of Crossout
1 Snatch Steal
1 Premature Burial

Traps: 8

1 Imperial Order
1 Call of the Haunted
1 Magic Cylinder
2 Waboku
1 Solemn Judgment
1 Ring of Destruction
1 Mirror Force

Nearly every monster aims to either disrupt the hand or remove your opponent's options.

The spells will also remove monsters, pre-negate threats, and keep the pressure going.

The traps will stymie and frustrate the opponent.

And that does it for my four part series on dealing with Chaos. Hopefully, my tips helped. Contact me at pojojaelove@yahoo.com.

A BAD System Score of the Week

IOC Ultra Rare: Black Luster Soldier- Envoy of the Beginning

Featured In: Chaos

Advantage F/H: Remove any monster in the game from play or attack for 4000+ in one turn? Like I said with CED, any time a card provides abject, permanent field advantage at the cost of only one resource, it gets a perfect score.            10/10.

Best Draw for the Situation: This guy won't quite save you like the CED will. You don't want to draw BLS when you have no lights/darks in the graveyard, and basically in the opening hand. Also, you don't want to bring him out when your opponent has an obvious trap set. Finally, you don't want to draw into him when your opponent has a relatively full hand because you fear the snatch steal/change of heart. Ordinarily, like CED, he'd get a 5 for such restrictive requirements. His power elevates him to a 7/10.

Attributes/Effect: He's a Light with 3000/2500 attack. Either of his effects alone would still make him a broken powerhouse. Combine both effects and you have the pinnacle of field dominance. Another of the rare monsters that gets A BAD system's perfect score. (Yata-Garasu and Chaos Emperor Dragon are the only other two). 10/10.

Dependability: Unfortunately, BLS falters compared to his Envoy counterpart in this category as well. He can't quite save you from a massive hole like CED can. In fact, BLS needs far more support in the form of spell-trap removers, pre-negators, and open avenues of attack to achieve full potential. Leaving him out on the field, open to snatch steals, enemy controllers, change of hearts, and even destroy and reborn, is suicide. He's almost like a ticking time bomb; you usually save him to finish your opponent off. He's far less dependable than Chaos Emperor Dragon in achieving his aims.    7.5/10

A BAD Score: 34.5/40=                                     87/100

The Bottom Line: The reason CED was banned and not this guy is CED's burn effect. CED can negate any hand/field advantage your opponent secures, while BLS is simply an overpowered, glorified field controlling machine. They're both very, very excellent cards as one can probably tell.
