JAELOVE's Smooth Journey Hugo Adame Clashes with Paul Levitin The East Coast players decided to send one of their best players first, in the hopes of sweeping through the entire West team. Paul Levitin¸ an absolute monster of the format with four consecutive Shonen Jump Top 8 placements was eager to prove himself against some of the best pros in the game. Plagued by accusations of cheating and improper play, he wanted to assert his own skill in a completely legitimate game. He was playing an assertive Bazoo and Return from the Different Dimension Deck, with Royal Decrees in the main deck as well. Hugo Adame, a member of Team Savage, possesses a top eight placement at the inaugural Shonen Jump Championship. The founder of Team Comic Odyssey, disagreements with the rest of the team led him to break off from that which he helped build. Unquestionably one of the best duelists in the nation, with top 20 finishes at Nationals, top eight finishes at Shonen Jump Championships, and regionals wins in Southern California, Hugo was eager to face up with Mr. Levitin with his three Brain Control variant of Soul Control, originally created by Sandtrap Vargas. Hugo won the dice roll and elected to go first. Hugo Turn One: The standard set of a monster and a spell or trap. This pattern was seen in about 90% of the games. Paul Turn Two: Summon D.D Assailant. It is Bottomless Trap Holed and removed from game, which would seem to fit into his Return from the Different Dimension strategies. He sets a spell or trap and ends. H3: Gravekeeper’s Spy is flipped, adding another to the field in defense position. On an expert read, the flipped spy is sacrificed for Airknight Parshath. Airknight hits for 1900, Hugo passes with no backfield. 8000 6100, Hugo. P4: Paul plays Reinforcements of the Army for Don Zaloog. He smashes the Spy, then Snatches Airknight and summons Don. The swing is huge, but Hugo has a full hand. Snatch Steal is discarded from Hugo’s hand, and the crowd murmurs. 5700 6100 H5: Hugo plays Brain Control, sacrificing Don for Mobius the Frost Monarch, which hits Paul’s set Decree and Snatch Steal. The swing is again huge, and both monsters hit for 4300 damage. Hugo sets a s/t. 4900 1800. P6: Paul sets a monster and two s/t. At the end phase, Hugo plays Mystical Space Typhoon on Scapegoats, a good hit. H7: Airknight declares an attack, Paul scoops. Hugo Adame wins game one in seven turns! Paul, stunned by such a quick loss, took some time looking over his deck and shuffling. He elected to begin. Paul Turn One: Sets a monster with no spell or trap. Hugo Turn Two: Hugo sets a s/t. Summons Twin Headed Behemoth, which hits the face-down D.D Assailant. 8000 7900, Paul. P3: D.D Assailant attacks into a Sakuretsu Armor. He then sets a monster. H4: Summon Spirit Reaper. The Behemoth attacks the face-down D.D Assailant. Sets another s/t. 8000 7800 P5: Paul plays Heavy Storm, a one for one trade. D.D Assailant then attacks Twin and Paul plays Smashing Ground on Spirit Reaper. He ends his turn with no spell or trap cards. Twin returns in attack position. 8000 7600. H6: Hugo moves Twin to defense, sets a monster. P7: Paul summons D.D Warrior, which crashes into the face-down Dekoichi the Battlechanted Locomotive. A relatively terrible read, this example alone shows how bad the new TP7 Ultra Rare can be. Any flip effect 1 for 0’s it, and that’s exactly what happens here. The D.D Assailant clears the remnants of the behemoth. Paul sets a s/t. H8: Hugo sets two spell or trap cards. P9: In another misplay of epic proportions, Paul aggressively charges for the Breaker. Like a matador flagging down a flailing bull, Hugo appears to be baiting the man into a rush of attacks. Torrential Tribute is triggered, clearing both Breaker and D.D Assailant. Paul passes. H10: Hugo summons a Breaker of his own. It hits the face-down Return, and 1600 damage is dealt. One s/t is still down. 6400 7600 P11: Paul summons Bazoo the Soul Eater, a card he and Carlos Santiago made famous at Shonen Jump Los Angeles. He removes Breaker from the graveyard, boosting it to 1900, then attacks into a Sakuretsu Armor. Smashing Ground is used on the Breaker, and Paul passes. Smashing a spent Breaker signals a troubled position. H12: Hugo sets a monster and passes. P13: Paul summons Blade Knight, which runs into a Bottomless. He sets a s/t. H14: Hugo flips a Spy, bringing out another in defense, and attacks for 1200. 5200 7600. P15: D.D Survivor is summoned, hitting a Spy for 600 damage. 5200 6800 H16: Seizing on the constant flow of face-up monsters, Hugo plays a Brain Control on the D.D Survivor. He summons Airknight Parshath, hitting for 1900 damage. 3300 6000 P17: Paul summons Blade Knight, sets a s/t, then attacks Airknight for 100 damage. He still cannot break through the 2000 defense Spy. H18: Hugo sacrifices the Spy for a Mobius. He then plays Premature Burial on Airknight Parshath. Mobius clears Blade, then Airknight attacks for 2300 damage total. 1000 5200 P19: Paul plays Reinforcements for Exiled. It pops the Airknight. He then sets a s/t. H20: Mobius declares into a face-down Return, which is used to bring out defensive monsters. Paul has zero cards in hand and field, and is reduced to topdecking. 500 5200 P21: Paul topdecks a Bazoo, removing three monsters and hitting for 100 life points. H22: Hugo sets a monster, and tributes it for Enemy Controller. He attacks for game. Hugo thoroughly dismantles the Team Scoop powerhouse, 2-0!
