JAELOVE's Smooth Journey Match 4: Wilson Luc Collides with Rhymus Lizo! Wilson Luc did not appreciate having his teammate lose against Rhymus Lizo. He arrived with a gleam plus twitch in his left eye, and his usual dapper demeanor was replaced by something a bit more sinister (serpent?). Like an 11/7 VS 4 drop, the Comic Odyssey superstar came ready to engage his opponent with Feral Rage. Rhymus winked at me, pouted a bit, and melted the crowd’s heart with his gentle ways. Once Rhymus and I took a quick break, the match was ready to begin. Wilson played a Dark Control deck with two copies of Strike Ninja (who plays that card!) splashed in, while Rhymus switched to a Wind Beatdown variant with Silpheeds and Harpie Ladies. Wilson opens Game One, Turn One: Wilson set one of each and said “Sure.” He then made a clicking noise, cocked his head like a Roulette Barrel, and passed. Rhymus Turn Two: Rhymus set one monster and two s/ts. W3: Wilson summoned D.D Warrior Lady, running it into a Bottomless. He seemed strangely unperturbed, and passed. R4: Rhymus set a second monster. At the end phase, Wilson used Dust Tornado. W5: Wilson set a s/t and passed. Rhymus set a s/t, Wilson set a s/t. With Rhymus’s draw, both duelists had four cards in hand. W9: Wilson passed, inducing Rhymus to set a third monster. W11: At this point, Wilson flipped his Spirit Reaper which had been set for ages. He triggered his own Torrential Tribute, which cleared Rhymus’s Magical Merchant, Sangan, and Spirit Reaper. He did not entirely expect an uneven trade; good players like Rhymus won’t put three non-Sangany monsters on the board for no reason. It was actually Wilson’s Reaper+ Torrential for Rhymus’s Merchant and Reaper. However, Wilson followed this up with another Spirit Reaper to hit Rhymus directly. Rhymus had dug out a Spirit Reaper with his Sangan effect, which was discarded by Wilson’s reaper. Simple, ain’t it? Wilson then set a s/t. 8000 7700, Wilson. R12: Rhymus played Smashing Ground, then set one of each. W13: Wilson summoned Strike Ninja, which attacked into Rhymus’s obvious defensive spell or trap. With Tsukuyomi in hand, it was up to Mr. Lizo whether he wanted to either 1 for 0 himself by activating on Ninja, or try to simply take the draw from Dekoichi. He chose to let it be destroyed. Wilson set another s/t. R14: Rhymus set a second s/t and another monster. Strike Ninja was quite the burden. W15: Wilson’s Ninja hit a face-down Mystic Tomato, which dug out another Tomato. He then passed. R16: Rhymus played Tsukuyomi, turning down the Strike Ninja. Wilson did not respond, signaling a defensive trap. Tomato hit into Widespread Ruin. Rhymus then passed with three cards in hand. W17: Seizing upon the opportunity, Wilson dropped Heavy Storm, clearing his own BTH and hitting Rhymus’s Book and Bottomless. He then summoned Don Zaloog, hitting for 3100 damage with Ninja and Don. He discarded Tsukuyomi, the one he didn’t want, and passed with no s/ts. 8000 4600 R18: Rhymus set a monster and passed. W19: Wilson’s Ninja hit a f/d Spirit Reaper. Wilson passed. R20: Rhymus played Swords, and his back was against the wall. W21: Wilson mystically ripped the Space Typhoon, played Smashing Ground, summoned D.D Survivor, and neatly sewed up game one. Wilson Luc takes Game One! Rhymus Opens Turn One: Rhymus sets one of each and passes. Wilson Turn Two: Wilson drew his sixth card, summoned Don Zaloog, played Nobleman of Crossout, said “I cheat” in a saucy, joking manner, and hit for 1400. The discard was Cyber Dragon, and Rhymus immediately lost his +1 advantage from going first. Wilson then set a s/t. 6600 8000, Wilson. R3: Rhymus played Premature Burial on Cyber Dragon. He attacked into a Sakuretsu Armor, then set a monster. 5800 8000 W4: Wilson summoned D.D Warrior Lady into a Bottomless Trap Hole. The Don Zaloog then attacked Magician of Faith, which dug out Premature Burial. R5: Rhymus played another Premature Burial, targeting Cyber Dragon. This hit on Don succeeded, for 700 damage. He then set a second s/t. 5000 7300 W6: Wilson set a monster and passed. R7: Rhymus attacked the f/d Tomato. It dug out a Sangan. Rhymus then passed. W8: Wilson played Mystical Space Typhoon on the Premature Burial, leaving a clear monster board. He played Premature Burial on Don Zaloog. It attacked into Sakuretsu Armor. Wilson then flipped Call of the Haunted, signaling his ability to see several turns ahead, and brought back Don for 1400 and another discard. Sangan then poked for 1000. Sakuretsu Armor was ripped from Rhymus’s hand. 2600 6500 R9: Rhymus Smashed the Don. This signaled no monster players and no spell or trap defenses. W10: Wilson, capitalizing on the lack of defenses, summoned Spirit Reaper. The two monsters hit for another 1300 damage, and Rhymus lost a Mobius. He had zero cards now with two s/ts down. R11: Rhymus set a third s/t and passed. At the end phase, Wilson played Dust Tornado on the freshly set trap. W12: On Wilson’s attack step, Rhymus was forced to use Widespread on the Marauding Sangan. Wilson dug out an Exiled Force, hit for 300 with Reaper, and set a s/t. R13: Rhymus drew a Breaker, but it was removed from play by Bottomless. Wilson showed the D.D Assailant next turn, and it was game. Can You Have a 2-0 Victory, Wilson? “mMm, Sure.”
