Pojo's Pro Player Draft Match Four: Billy Brake vs. Jeff Jones

The line has to stop here for Jeff Jones' team. He is expecting to make a run and block Brake's unrelenting assault on the roster. If Jones loses, Brake's momentum may grow too powerful for Hugo Adame to stop!

Jeff Jones- Jones needs no introduction. At first he became infamous for a steamy clip that was posted on every major forum. Then he took a hiatus from the game for a while due to factors beyond his control.

When Jeff returned to the scene, he started winning. And winning big. He disposed of Jarel Winston to win the first Shonen Jump Championship under Konami. Months later, he defeated another player in another finals to win the last Shonen Jump Championship under Konami. Basically, the entire Konami SJC era was a meaty Jeff Jones sandwich.

The man nearly took Herald of Perfection to a YCS win as well, losing to disgraced Andrew Scovern in an epic X-Saber versus Herald match. He used his patented Herald deck on the eve before Nationals.

Brake versus Jones- Game One.

Jones Turn One: Jones wins the dice roll and starts. Jones and Brake have a lot of history, including Jones defeating Brake in the top four of SJC Edison. Brake claims Jeff is his kryptonite-- the one player he cannot seem to defeat.

Pot of Avarice

Megami

Preparation of Rites

Mokey Mokey

Dawn of the Herald

Archlord Kristya

Jeff plays a Prep for Herald to thin his deck. He then plays Dawn and returns Megami. He sets Avarice as a bluff. One thing that distinguishes Jeff (I noticed) from other Herald players is he sets a lot of his useless spells as bluffs, then lets his opponent's m/t removal resolve. It gives him a big edge.

Brake Turn Two: Billy plays Storm which resolves. He summons Boggart and activates it. I'm not sure what the future plan for the game is but Boggart is one of the best cards against Herald because it can swing over the 1800. What does Billy have in hand?

He sets 3 back row and passes.

J3: Jeff draws an Advanced Ritual Art and passes.

B4: Billy summons Fulhelm and passes.

J5: Jeff moves Herald to attack. He attacks into Fulhelm and dumps a fairy to negate. Billy's use of Boggart may cost him here.

B6: Billy summons Emmersblade and attacks. 8000 7500 Jones. Jeff negates by discarding Megami.

J7: Jeff attacks into Book of Moon. He discards Honest. He summons Kristya and returns Honest.

B8: Billy sets a third row and a monster. Jones attacks into Airbellum next turn and Billy scoops.

Jeff Jones Wins Game One!

Brake opens Game Two: Billy summons Boggart, Fulhelm, and Faultroll. He makes Urbellum and sets a row after specialing Fulhelm with Faultroll. An amazingly aggressive opening turn and the correct one. Great pace by Billy.

J2: Jeff sees a hand of:

Ryko

Book of Moon

Dark Factory

Preparation of Rites

Honest

Mokey Mokey

This hand would be decent barring any spectacular openings from the opponent. Jeff sets Ryko, Book, and Factory.

B3: Billy plays Cold Wave. He summons Fulhelm #2. Faultroll gets Boggart Knight. When all attacks are over, Ryko has destroyed Faultroll and it's 3500 8000 Brake.

J4: Jones draws another Book and scoops it up.

Billy Brake Swiftly Snatches Game Two!

Jones opens Game Three:

Happy Lover

Happy Lover

Megami

Herald of Perfection

Royal Oppression

Royal Decree

Jones sets Decree and Oppression and passes. He needs a tutor or ARA to end the game.

B2: Brake plays the clutch Storm. He swings with Fulhelm and sets two backrow.

J3: Jeff hits Sonic Bird! Very unfortunate to lose such great backrow cards the previous turn. He summons Bird for ARA. He then realizes his ARA is unplayable because of the two Happy Lover in hand. In a great show of sportsmanship, Billy lets Jeff grab Dawn instead.

Jeff plays Dawn and gets Herald. Jeff negates Billy's Book of Moon and attacks for 500 over Fulhelm after Fulhelm negates Sonic Bird. Jeff has two cards in hand with Herald and Bird versus Billy's three in hand and set backrow. 8000 7500 Jones.

B4: Billy draws and sets a monster.

J5: Jeff reveals Pashuul with Sonic Bird's attack. Herald goes to defense.

B6: Billy draws to 3 cih. He plays Rescue Cat and syncs a Goyo Guardian (without using Cat's effect). It attacks Bird and obviously no effect.

J7: Jeff draws Avarice with Herald, Megami, Lover in hand. He sets Avarice. Billy MST's it.

B8: Billy draws and sets a monster.

J9: Jeff passes.

B10: Billy sets a second s/t.

J11: Jeff passes. At the end phase, Billy end phase Mind Crushes Megami. Jeff allows it. I think negating it is generally better in game one because it doesn't require a hand reveal. However, Jeff knows Brake sides Divine Wrath in this spot.

B12: Billy draws. Jeff activates Decree. Billy has 1 cih with a set monster and Goyo Guardian. He flips Sangan, summons Airbellum. Airbellum and Goyo make X-Saber Gottoms. Gottoms destroys Herald and Sangan attacks for 1000. 7000 7500 Brake.

Gottoms makes the X-Saber matchup difficult for Herald. This game is basically over.

J13: Jeff sets a monster.

B14: Billy summons Boggart and specials Faultroll. Jeff concedes.

Billy Brake Defeats Jeff Jones 2-1 to Advance! Four down and Billy will be looking for the sweep against Hugo Adame!
